Any Chance At Going To The Olympics

Do I still have a chance to make it to Nationals? Or even the Olympics?

I've been skating since I was 2 1/2. I'm 15 now. I have a double axel and an inconsistent triple flip and loop. I skate everyday and I train off ice a lot. Is there still any way I can become anything?

What are the chances of India hosting Summer Olympics 2032?

Not 2032 but i think India definitely stands a chance a decade or so after . Anyway , i hope that India never bids and if it does the bid fails .I want all Indians to play and i see no reason why only those fortunate enough to make it to the games village should play .The sheer waste of profligate expenditure that this entails is humongous . This can be better spend in a 100 ways the Parliament thinks fit .Yes , Infrastructure will be created for the games but it will be for only one city .What about all the other cities and the country side .Who will build roads there .Also , if roads/railroads are required then just build it . Why link it to kicking a ball around a field or running around a field . There is a requirement just build it.India will become a nation not when the rich use SUVs to go see Olympic games but when rich use public transport to see their children playing in local competitions.

Is there any chance for India to host the Olympic games?

India first participated as a team in the Olympics in 1920, set up the Indian Olympic Association by 1927 and won its first gold, in hockey, the very next year.Three years from now, when the Olympics begin in Tokyo in 2020, it will mark a century since India first sent a team to the Games and should be a time to celebrate a centenary of Olympic participation. But in the shadow of the dismal show at Rio where the largest ever contingent of 118 athletes managed to pick up just two medals, the idea of celebration sounds farfetched, even farcical. With the recent appointment of the Olympic task force whose mandate includes infrastructure, training, selection of athletes and creating a comprehensive action plan for not just 2020, but also 2024 and 2028, change is inevitable and it does look bright. The Times of IndiaGlobal Sports Business Show 2017With the intent to build a bright future for the sports fraternity and fitness enthusiasts in India, the Times of India is proud to present the second of the Global Sports Business Show, scheduled from the 16 th, 17 th and 18 th of November at the Bombay Exhibition Center, Mumbai.A platform which will bring together national and international sports organizations, manufacturers, sports tech solutions providers, related federations, associations and governing bodies to engage with peers and stake holders under one comprehensive and exclusive event.Focal Point: Enabling the Indian Olympic VisionWith the dream of India bettering its London tally of six medals, the question now remains whether the country can not only just improve its Rio tally, but if it can acquit itself creditably at Tokyo, and what it must do to get there. This initiative will be an ideal platform for the potential game changers of the Indian Olympic fraternity to come together and voice out on the current ongoing, regulatory initiatives, challenges as well as opportunities to achieve this vision. The intent is to have a defined roadmap with focused timelines to ensure we see India as one of the top contenders in the Olympics.

Do I have a chance at making the olympic gymnastics team or world competition?

Please don't get mad at me for saying this but no I do not. Before you get upset with me for saying that you have to understand only about 24 girls make the national team every year and only 12 in each age group. There are many talented current elite gymnasts who can already do skills with much more difficulty than you have right now that will never make a national team, never compete for the USA in the olympics or any other international competition. The girls who don't find success in the elite world either drop down to level 10 and go on to college or do high school gymnastics. The olympics is a great dream that even I dream of and I am not only a level 4 gymnast, I also know that is never going to happen. You have nothing to be ashamed of you know a lot of skills for only 1 years experience! The thing you have to understand is that the girls that will make olympic teams have trained since they were 3 and beat out many other girls who also trained since they were 3. The youngest member on the national team right now is 12 Madison Kocian she is already an elite gymnast who is the same age as you. I hope you are starting to see how your late start really ends the dream of going elite. Don't let my words discourage you, pleas keep doing gymnastics it is a wonderful sport and I love it so much. Set your goals on High school gymnastics and competitive gymnastics but don't get it into your mind that if you just work hard enough you will make it to the olympics because chances are you probably won't. I hope you aren't too mad at me I really just needed to be honest with you.

How can I get to the Olympics in Figure Skating?

Wait, let me get this straight. At 13 years old, you've never had professional coaching before, yet you expect to be able to beat people who have been skating since they were two? Reality check time!

At 12, Elizaveta Tuktamisheva was landing triple axels in practice, and competing at Senior Nationals. Has she ever won them? Nope. Is she going to the Olympics? Maybe, maybe not.

I started skating when I was three, and I've been skating for 14 years. Am I ever going to the Olympics? Nope!

To put things into perspective, if you wanted to have a shot at the Olympics, at age 13, you'd need to be landing all of your doubles and a least two or three triples. You'd also need to have custom skates, a freeskate coach, a choreographer, and at least 25 hours of on-ice a week. Most skaters do 30+. If you've never skated before, you wouldn't last more than an hour on ice. My shortest trainings are 2 hours, usually more like 3 or 4. More competitive skaters skate for longer.

"I am starting with gymnastics because it helps with figure skating" You know what helps with Figure Skating? Actually getting on the ice and skating. Gymnastics is going to do nothing for you if you can't skate to begin with.

Short answer: You're never going to the Olympics. You can get a coach, and learn how to skate, and even so small competitions. When you're in your 20s, you could even go to adult nationals. But the Olympics are out of the realm of possibility for you, as any coach, skater, or anyone else who knows the sport would tell you.

Does Dean Karnazes have any chance at making the Olympic Marathon team?

I know he said he was going to participate in the trials, but does he really think he can make it on the team? Or is it a publicity stunt? I don't see how he could go from running 20 minute/miles for 100 miles to sub 5 minute/miles for 26.2. I guess if he did some serious speedwork beforehand, he may have a chance. I mean, I am certain his aerobic capacity is good from logging in those thousands upon thousands of miles. But could he get his speed and anaerboic threshold to a competitive level in time? What do you guys think?

Do I still have a chance to start ice skating?

I love ice skating. Ever since I was little I would always want to go ice skating, I would watch it at the Olympics and everything.

I was wondering if I still had a chance at trying to and hopefully becoming a professional ice skater. I am turning 16 next month. Is it too late for me to start? I know most start at a young age. I also weigh about 140ish pounds, I'm not fat, just muscular but is it too heavy?

I have been ice skating before, several times, I am decent at it I suppose, I still fall every once in awhile and I can't do any spins or anything.

Do you have to be really flexible to be an ice skater, if I do what are so exercises I could do to make me flexable?

How often would I have to practice? How much would to cost to get all the things in order to ice skate, such as the ice skates, or should I borrow them from an ice skating place.

Also is there classes? I don't really want to do a group ice skating class because I really don't want to embarrass myself. So is private classes available and how much do you think it would cost? Should I just practice by myself?

I am 23 years old. I would like to run in Olympics and get gold for India. Is there any age limit?

As I'm an Athlete I think I could answer this well. First there is no age limit. Select an event and do your training regularly. Work hard and sacrifice everything like functions and Get together and part etc.. Find a proper guidance and a coach, keep a personal doctor and physiotherapist.. Take good nutrition and supplements. Think only about your goal. Don't get deviated. God bless all the best!!!!

I am going to be officially an Olympic Swimmer this olympics, I have a 3.1 gpa and a 1450 on the new SAT's what are my chances at Harvard? Stanford?

Thank you for the A2A.The relationship between the admission office and the athletic department differs from school to school, but based on what I know as an admission officer and former athlete I base what I am going to see having watched how schools recruit students for teams. The first thing I would ask is how you know you are an Olympian? The US trials take place June 26th-July3rd. No one has been selected for the teams yet. If this means you are part of another country’s team then you will need to compare your times with the top athletes at Harvard and Stanford. I have known swimmers who competed for their country in the Olympics but whose times are not close to what it would take to be a member of a strong Division I team.If your times are competitive, then you should already have heard from some coaches at many of the top schools in the US. If the coaches at a Division I school place you at the top of their list of recruits then your chances of getting in are strong despite your grades (unless of course your recent grades are lower than your overall GPA). If coaches are not already talking to you then you need to get your coach to reach out to them. Many coaches already have a list of who they are going to recruit.Your SATs signify you can do the work at any school but your GPA is far below almost all the students who attend these schools. My next question is why do you want to attend a school in which you are going to start out behind almost everyone in academic preparation? Would you want to swim in a race where everyone else got a big head start? What I am trying to say is you might be better off if you enrolled in a less selective school even if you get in. Swimming is, as you know, an incredibly time consuming sport. You are spending 5 or more hours a day in the pool. Combined with classes this is not easy to do without a lot of stress.. I would encourage you to look at Texas and some other great schools that have wonderful athletic and academic programs. Balancing life, athletics and academics is a challenge. You should pick a school by fit rather than the name or ranking.(I say this having been a recruited athlete who competed in nationals and having the highest GPA of any athlete in the ACC during my last year in college.)
