I'm 21, male, and not rich. Where should I shop in New York?

Century 21 (Financial District) - this is an overstock store that has great deals, especially for formal clothes (Versace suits for $100 and stuff like that).  The clothes are un-worn, just last year's styles.  Similar stores to hit - Daffy's, Filene's Basement.  There are a few of each around the city.  I've had really good luck at the Daffy's in the Atlantic Terminal mall in Brooklyn. Beacon's Closet (Williamsburg, Park Slope) is used, mostly vintage, but some nice newer stuff too.  Their buyers are pretty discerning.  Prices seemed to have gone up a bit lately - like $15 for shirts or pants.  The real score is to hit the Housingworks thrift stores (There are about a half dozen of these around the city) when they do their end of season clearances.  You can get shirts + pants for like $5 or $10 dollars and Housingworks is the store of choice for rich people to give away their things to, so the quality is very good, especially for a thrift store.  Never shopped at Buffalo exchange, but hear it's similar to Beacon's.  Don't bother with Salvation Army or any of the other resale shops, they're going to be picked over and don't stock good quality.H&M, American Apparel, Urban Outfitters and Brooklyn Industries are all good chain stores to get the basics. For ultimate bargains, buy irregulars from the sidewalk vendors on Orchard street.
