Mmmm, problem is, the city has changed over and over since the founding days. Manhattan has changed greatly in two decades; profoundly in four decades. So the New York you're likely to see in the movies doesn't exist anymore--and in many cases never did; that's why all feature films are at least to some degree fictional. Great cities feature important landmarks, buildings, athletic teams, museums, yes--but the greatest film subject in every city is its people. I have always thought of Pixar movies as secretly action comedy movies. Yup, at the core, they’re life-affirming and heart-warming features, but every Pixar movie always has a very good action sequence, from Woody and Buzz’s “Indy Jones”-like adventures, to the Monster’s Inc’s chase through the door conveyors, the final flight chase through the rain in A Bug’s Life, Dory and Marlin trying to evade Bruce the great white shark, old man Carl swinging from the airship in Up, and of course, pretty much every minute of The Incredibles, not to mention the prison escape movie that was Toy Story 3. Even Cars has some fairly dope racing scenes.
