Any Legit Movie Scripting / Video Game Scripting Careers

I want to pitch my movie idea- Is moviepitch.com legit?

Fred:A quick Google search shows all you need to know, Moviepitch.com wants you to "buy" their DVD before you can use their services. Also, the advertised royalty payment to you is on the extremely low side, even Amazon's site offers a higher royalty payment. In my experience, those sites the require to buy thier services are NOT legit, we see that in the acting industry all the time, JPR being the biggest rip-off demanding clients use the JPR photographers, and pay huge fees up front. SAG rules allow for only a 10% fee on acting monies only, a % of the travel, wardrobe, or meals, etc... can NOT be collected by the agency.Cliff

Is it possible to be a video game designer and a narrative designer at the same time?

Of course. Both of these are relatively new job descriptions (meaning - they existed before, but they weren’t named as such). When the gaming industry was young, it wasn’t uncommon to have games made by just 2–3 people (this still happens today, but it’s mostly limited to indie games), who did everything for the game - the coding, art, writing, music, design, etc.Today, there are dozens, sometimes even hundreds, of employees working on a single AAA game. This means that it’s more important than ever to have a precise hierarchy to know who is responsible for what. The problem is that this often means that the writing is largely divorced from the gameplay or design of the game itself, since it is done separately, but the industry is growing and evolving every day, so this is an issue that will probably be solved (at least in part) someday. There are lots of games where the narrative designer (aka - a writer) is also a game designer, since they understand storytelling from both perspectives. A good example of this is Chris Avellone, who often employs environmental storytelling of the “show, don’t tell” variety in his games.

If I have a great idea for a movie and wrote a great script with complex characters, how can I get it to an important person to read it as I know they will like it?

Sorry about your illness.Even more about what I'm going to tell you now:Your story will almost certainly not be read by anyone important if you have no experience in screenwriting - The leading people in the entertainment industry use a relatively small pool of talent for the overwhelming majority of their projects. Unless you are in that pool, you are an unknown quantity and they will rarely, if ever, use unknown quantities. You really need to have someone whose judgment you trust read your story and critique it - While it sounds good to you, you are going to need an outside opinion to help determine if it truly IS good. Have that person read your work and provide you with honest and brutal feedback. Accept what they say and then decide if you are willing to make the changes/edits that they suggest. You should consider turning your screenplay into a novel - Not wanting to sound crass, but a novel from someone who may have died prematurely will attract a great deal more attention than a script would. If you can flesh out your characters and your narrative, then you could attract a publisher and if your book then becomes a surprise hit, it might attract the attention of a producer or even a major actor who will try to bring it to the big screen.Sorry...but again...simply having what you believe is a great screenplay is nearly useless. Try to turn it into a novel or a series of short stories and you might experience greater success.Good luck dealing with your illness.

Was the kanye west incident at the VMA awards scripted?

I'm really leaning towards scripted. Actually the whole ceremony seemed kind of weird and intentionally outrageous. Lady Gaga's wardrobe (costumes) AND her ridiculous bloody performance, Lil Mama's random appearance onstage with Jay-Z & Alicia Keys, Katy Perry's odd crotch grab, Beyonce ever so graciously giving "Taylor her 'moment'" after Kanye's interruption (who happened to dressed in very similar bright red frocks)

My friends and I have drawn the conclusion that if it wasn't all a hoax, they were passing out crack, cocaine and crystal meth as party favors. I just can't see all of these weird things being allowed to occur once, and then continue to happen all in once show, totally unchecked by the producers/network etc...

I call hoax because, I mean, seriously, would anyone really be talking about the VMAs still if this stuff didn't happen?

The last video game you played is being converted into a big budget film, is this a good thing?

The last game I played (and will continue playing for weeks to come) was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Now, I think on paper this one looks like a slam dunk. Zelda has decades of games to pull from, an iconic look, has widespread name recognition, and a cult-like following. And yet, I would say a Zelda movie would be a bad thing. The thing about the Zelda games is, no one plays them for the story, to the point that the story is almost inconsequential. It's basically always (barring a few rogue examples): Gannon wants power, he attacks Hyrule, Princess Zelda is captured or incapacitated in some way, and Link ploughs through some dungeons until he triumphs over evil. Would seeing that on the big screen even be all that interesting? No, the interesting thing about Zelda games is the feeling of exploration they bring out in the player. You are just this tiny little elf guy, tossed into a huge world full of danger and mystery, and only after struggle and solving puzzles and finding secrets are you able to be victorious. The experience you remember is the story of your own adventure. While I may have ventured into a cave, low on health and with no potions, and had an epic duel with a Cyclops I barely survived, another player may have never even entered that cave, or killed the monster without a second thought. This individual experience is intentionally heightened by the fact that Link also never speaks. Any interactions Link has with other characters are basically in the players' heads. A film version of Link would never be my Link, who would never be yours. The Legend of Zelda games are some of the best games ever made, and Breath of the Wild is arguably one of the best in the series, but I never want to see it as a movie. I would go to the theater, and I would most likely enjoy it, but I wouldn't walk away from it and remember the story. In Zelda games, the adventure I remember is my own, and a movie could never capture that. Also: the game I played before that was Dark Souls 3, and let's be honest, the only way you could accurately make that into a movie is if the plot was told almost entirely in hidden hints in the background, and if randomly someone would run up and punch you in the face at unpredictable intervals. Some games should just never be films.

Is XXI Century Entertainment a scam?

I know exactly what you're going through. When I moved to the US from Russia I really wanted to get into modeling. I went to John Casablanca because of course they told me I looked great and I could be a model. They say that to everyone. I paid John Casablanca a whole bunch of money but after graduation nothing happened for me.

When I met XXI Century Entertainment they were very honest without trying to hurt my feelings. I'm only five feet five inches tall and they told me that the odds of me doing the kind of modeling I wanted to do (high fashion runway) was not very likely as the cut off height is five feet eight. I did the audition anyway and showed that I had some talent with acting. So I signed up with XXI and got three agents after my showcase. Since then I have done a few commercials, a Sears catalog and I'm now one of the last few to be chosen for a major part in a movie (I will know in a few weeks).

I realize now how lucky I was that XXI century actually selected me - because they didn't take my sister (and she was more into acting than I was). The entertainment business is not easy, but it's great that companies like XXI Century Entertainment are out there to help. They really made a difference for me. So my advice is...if acting is a passion for you, then stay with this company, they will really hook you up with top people. If it is not a passion then you should just be honest with yourself and just try to do community theater or something. Remember the entertainment industry is not for everyone. Good luck with your showcase. I hope it works out for you.
