Any Suggestions Help

Wisdom Tooth Pain... any suggestions to help?

How do you ease the severe pain of wisdom teeth coming in? I take over the counter pain meds to help take the edge off the headaches, but it lasts for very short periods of time and not really all that well. And my mouth is so sore I can hardly eat or talk. Is there anything I can do to help this?

Are there any suggestions or tips on how to help me decide on colleges and finding my passion (see details)?

Apply to colleges, get accepted, accept the best offer, complete high school, and then file to defer your enrollment one year. People defer college all the time. Make sure to be serious about the application preparation and lock in an acceptance before you finish high school. Near the end of HS have a talk with your mentor and tell them you feel the need to experience personal growth before your Freshman year of college and explain how you expect a year of travel to challenge you, expose you to cultural and intellectual diversity and push you out of your comfort zone to catalyze your growth. Have a page of prepared pros and cons arguments that you know without having to read. Show authentic enthusiasm for growth, travel and continued education. To prepare, write 10-20 questions you expect an educator or parent would ask about the cons, then write logical arguments that refute them. Practice those arguments in front of the mirror repeating them time after time until you memorize them and can recite them in your own words, like telling a joke. Mentors will want you to have a plan for growth and education so that you can execute on that plan. Show your mentor that you respect that approach and are serious about your ability to follow through on higher education after your deferment.

Do you have any suggestions to help me improve on being a cashier, since I am really shy and not very talkative?

“Do you have any suggestions to help me improve on being a cashier, since I am really shy and not very talkative?”You don’t have to be “chatty”, just be “communicative” and polite. Greet them as they come up to you, “good morning/afternoon/evening”. Ask if they found everything they were looking for, if they have…ring up their items. Then tell them their total…”your total is $20.58″. If it’s cash, state the amount of money they pass to you, “out of $25.00”…then count their change back to them (as you hand them 2 pennies, 1 nickel, 1 dime, 1 quarter, and 4 dollar bills) “20.60, 20.65, 20.75, 21.00, 25.00”. In many cases, that’s all the talking that is really required, unless they add to the conversation…then merely respond to them politely. If you have a lot of “repeat customers”, you may get to know them better. So having additional things to say to them will be easier and more natural. If someone always gets one item every time they come in, but haven’t gotten it this time you might ask “did you forget to get a newspaper?”. Maybe they don’t want it, but usually they appreciate that you remember what it is that they like…they know you are paying attention to the things they like. So…greet them, communicate during the financial transaction, be polite, be attentive.Communicating about the money changing hands is important…if either one of you makes an error, it will likely be discovered during the transaction…rather than after they leave. If they don’t discover, or think, there’s been an error until after that cash drawer closes…you have to count the drawer down to verify. And, you will feel less shy and awkward if you have “business” things to say, rather than struggling to make small talk.

I need help with a poem about bullying. Any suggestions?

Well I don't rhyme my poems a lot, but here are two stanzas to maybe break the gridlock and get you started (think of them as a way to start from something other than a blank page--you don't need to use them at all--other than as a tool to get you writing). Choose a point of view in the poem. Either the bully's voice, the victim's voice, or someone in the crowd watching it. Determining who is telling the poem's story is what usually will get you started. This example of just a couple of stanza's is from the victim's point of view:

It seems so cliché.
Yes I wear glasses,
answering questions
in all of your classes.

What shocks me the most,
is others don’t see—
what you and your friends
Keep doing to me.

I hope that helps the writer's block. Good luck.

Best,

Todd

Autistic Quorans, do you have any suggestions to help my 11 year old autistic daughter fall asleep more quickly or earlier? She takes melatonin but is often still awake at midnight. Her natural circadian rhythm doesn't fit the demands of school.

I see a lot of answers here related to limiting light at night. That’s important but it wasn’t enough for me.I had trouble with sleep since I was very young. Once my teenage years came I would lay awake in my dark bedroom until the early hours of the morning before finally getting a couple of hours of sleep before having to get up for school. It was absolutely miserable!Through the summer I had trouble sleeping at night. I don’t understand why but I just wouldn’t get tired until the sun started to come up.When I was in college I started trying to figure it all out on my own. I eventually got a diagnosis of ADHD and was put on a stimulant medication for it. It made me more awake and alert through the day and I had no problem sleeping at night.I’ve been on stimulants ever since then and I’m still able to sleep at night. However, if I stop them for a few days I’ll go right back to not being able to sleep until the sun comes up.Now the light makes a difference. In fact, I have some very bright “sunlight” bulbs on a timer in my bedroom to help me wake up. Take away the stimulants and I get some of my best sleep after the sun comes up.ADHD is pretty common among autistics. Might be worth looking into.If you do look into it and find that ADHD is an issue you should know that not all stimulants are created equally. I tried two others that did nothing at all before finding the one that worked. Surprisingly, the first dose of that one was like turning on a switch in my brain. I’ve known others who have had great success on the ones that did nothing for me. It also took a little trial and error to get the dose right. At one point it was a bit too much and we had to back off a little.

Searching for any suggestions that can help me along my weight loss journey?

Lazy yet effective method i.e. intermittent fastingIntermittent fasting is not a diet, but rather a dieting pattern. It generally means fasting and then feasting on purpose that you consume your calories during a specific period of the day, and choose not to eat food for a longer period of time. As its name suggests, it is a process of eating nothing for extended periods of time. When I started to do intermittent fasting on the first day, I felt quite difficult to starve but after a few days, my body got adapted. After a few weeks, my few friends told me,” Hey! you have lost weight. You look quite slim.”I was joyful as without much effort and eating whatever I wanted, I lost weight. I even felt more energetic and active than before.Time-restricted feeding is a subset of intermittent fasting- which has a wealth of research behind it for weight management, blood sugar control, hunger regulations, cancer prevention, inflammation and more.Fasting acts as a “metabolic reset” for your body system – giving time for your body to clear out inflammation, a scavenger for cancer cells, get rid of damaged cells, promote healthy gut microbes, and also allow you to digest the previous day’s food.Slowly, many studies have begun to understand how eating plays a role in modulating circadian rhythms, but we know even less about how a lack of food might affect rhythms. For details visit Intermittent Dieting - A lazy, yet effective way to lose weight

Are there any suggestions or recommendations to help me clear up my skin from acne over the next month?

Learn how to deep breathe (breathing into your stomach rather than your chest). This is also a good way to reduce stress. (But honestly this one is really important)Drink more water and eat more vegetables (don’t cut out foods unless you know you’re allergic to them). Eat some probiotic food like sauerkraut to help your gut.Take a selenium supplement (also vitamin C, D and E if you don’t get enough from your diet).Use a salicylic acid face wash (Acnedote is a really good brand). And basic hygiene like keeping a clean pillowcase and not touching your face.
