Any Watches Similar To The Timex Datalink

With rare exception, Timex designed their watches to be inexpensive. These were timepieces that had mass appeal because they could be made and sold cheaply. Cases were made of chrome plated brass, (brass is an easy metal to cut and press). The company perfected the pin lever movement and used brass bushings for pivots. Modeled after the old Ingersoll dollar watches, the company could make timekeepers without jewels in the movement. These hardy timekeepers were easier and cheaper to replace than repair.Timex experimented with different combinations of metals such as aluminum cases. The objective was economy and the switch from mechanical movements to quartz was an obvious decision. During 1950 and 1960 Timex was the leading watch manufacturer and seller in the United States.Fast forward 35 years and we find that Timex is dipping into the company’s historic big sellers to reintroduce the Timex Marlin with a suggested retail price of $199.00 USD.The Marlin was a popular watch sold by Timex and came in a number of flavors with mechanical models available into the 1970’s.The company produced some interesting and collectable watches like the Dynabeat. This was an electric mechanical watch that used a battery in place of a coiled spring. There are a few highly collectible Timex watches such as the 14kt solid gold cased Dorado which was only made from 1968 to 1969, some early Disney character watches now valued at over $1,000.00, and a handful of US Time branded watches made in Abilene, Texas. They are relatively expensive to buy in mint condition at auction. With rare exception Timex is not a watch that is counterfeited unless you are looking at a collectable. Buying one off the net can be a dodgy enterprise.

Casio every time (SWIDT?).At the lowest entry level, they're probably comparable. But as soon as a feature or two are added, Casio takes the prize. My absolute favorite is Solar, it is rapidly becoming a deal breaker…no solar, no purchase. Add a few more like radio sync, automatic backlight, you've got a reliable and accurate tool that can work for years and perhaps decades with zero further maintenance or expense. Of course G-Shock makes it waterproof and nearly indestructable, and you still haven't spent more than $100.I did have an Ironman that took a licking, was an excellent work watch, and it was cheap enough to consider disposable. I imagine that's precisely what happened. My first digital was a Timex, somewhere ~’80, it's sole rematkable quality was the Tritium backlight, which outlasted the timekeeping unit.Honestly it's unlikely I will ever see a Titan, it seems they only market for India. That's not a deal-breaker, but the other have earned a spot on the world market.

Are gold watches or rose gold watches from Timex, for female tacky?

I think silver watches and rose gold watches are more feminine. If you have a medium skin tone the rose gold will be better than traditional gold. They also make 2 toned watches that have silver & rose gold which will allow you to wear it with more outfits. They are not tacky at all! Watches are apart of one's lifestyle. Wearing a watch gives you a sophisticated look so regardless of color, i think a watch will make any outfit pop.

PS- If you get a rose gold watch make sure to take care of it. Like if you're going to do something that makes you sweat I wouldn't wear the watch (especially on a really hot day outside). It will make the metal tarnish faster. Rose gold tarnishes faster than gold.

I will elaborate on the quality of Timex watches below, but three aspects at which they excel at would be the following:Design, technology and price. The Timex Group consolidated their design strategy about twelve years ago, when they integrated the Giorgio Gallo Design Lab to their structure, thus securing Italian talent. They also added former project managers and sales forces from the Sector Group to their European operations. In 2010, Timex patented step-motor designs, which it has been using, first in quartz multifunction watches, and which it is now rolling out in analogue connected watches.Overall, Timex manages to keep extremely constrained prices on their low end collections by skipping the use of stainless steel for the watch cases. Instead they use alloys of other metals, that are much cheaper to shape and polish. When the case back states “stainless steel back” it means that the rest of the watch is not steel. Please note that more expensive models from Timex do use stainless steel cases. The only drawback with alloys is that they contain a percentage of copper, which creates a greenish oxydation in contact with water or human sweat. To avoid this phenomenon, the cases are usually electro-plated with chrome, which is also slowly eaten out by human sweat.Timex. It takes a lickin’ and keeps on… greenin’, I guess?Image source:This TimexMetropolitan+ Fitness Wearable May Not Look Like A Smartwatch But It IsTimex Weekender 40 Review

Looking for a good military watch?

My advice.. save your money until you finish college and have a career going. if I had saved just half of what I made from 15-21 I would be a millionaire today. but I blew through it on stupid things such as watches cars and other pointless crap that I no longer have today.

I'm not a fan of spending $200-300 on a watch they are mass produced and a dime a dozen. Meaning it will never be worth more then what you paid for it. I suggest you save your money and when you turn 21 if you still desire a nice watch buy a Rolex. (stay away from tag heur and the other likes that claim to produce nice watches).

Rolex, Breitling (not sure I spelled it right) watches produced by companies that have history and prestige will gain value over time. If nothing else a $10,000 rolex will be worth it's weight in gold (if you buy a gold or platinum one).

Sieko, Timex, Omega, Bulova all of that is over priced JUNK that will never be worth more then you pay for it.

SURVEY: Other than a Timex watch, can you think of anything that takes a licking and keeps on ticking?

The cat seems to be doing well by licking herself and ticking me off lately.
Does that count or must i say the other word directly?

Casio offers G Shock models in a WIDE range of retail prices. The bargain model begins with an SRP of $99.00 USD for the Analog-Digital GA700LT-1Aand increase to $7,400.00 for the Master G Bluetooth Edition. This would be a reasonable price if the watch came with an automatic transmission and leather seats. The price differential between material choices from plastic to stainless steel puts the Shock into G Shock. The cost from high to low end creates a lot of space to find a cheaper alternative. Rather than walk through the gamut of all watches made by Seiko, Citizen and Breitling on the high end , I have concentrated on watches under $100.00 USDTimex is most often compared to Casio with watches designed for activity from exercise to hiking. Timex has models similar to the digital Casio watches in their Ironman and Expedition Series. The Expedition Shock has a SRP retail of $52.00the Timex Command Shock is priced at $99.00 (full retail)and the Expedition Analog Digital models are still available from some sellers for around $40.00 which is a very good price on a functional watch.Pulsar makes some handsome watches that have been discounted by some merchants to around $100.00. I just don’t know how durable they are. I do prefer them to the plastic Timex or Arcade styling of so many G-Shocks.

What does indiglo mean on a watch?

"Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced through Kmart in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. The technology is comparable to the Illuminator technology used by Casio.

Other watch models exhibit an Indiglo backlight that only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity. The Timex Datalink USB uses this technology. Indiglo devices emit a distinct blue-green or white or other color.

Indiglo has been used for other devices such as clock radios, electronic personal organizers, and nightlights."
