Anyone Else Enjoy Reading/writing

Why do you personally enjoy reading and writing?

When reading, I get to be someone else, imagine my own reactions for situations that have never happened to me or will never possibly happen to me. What if I was told I was a famous wizard and didn't even know it? I can live vicariously through Harry Potter and imagine my own reactions and thoughts about the things he goes through.

The thing about reading is... if it's a good book, I can discover things about myself that I have never thought of before. Real life is full of conflicts, but I will never know what it's like to fight an alien force. I will never have to make a decision about which of my divorced parents to live with, I have never been adopted and don't know what kind of thoughts and emotions come with the territory... but through reading, I can think about those situations. Not only can I be enthralled with a character I like going through those conflicts, but I can learn more about my own self by imagining my own reactions to those situations. How would I feel if I discovered I had a long-lost twin sister? It would never happen, but reading can take me there.

With writing, it's about giving someone ELSE the feelings that I get when I'm reading. When I write, I feel like a mother. I'm an inept mother who has no idea what she's doing, and my stories are my disobedient children, handicapped by my own inexperience, trying to fight their way out the front door and into the world. But I have the pride of a mother. The stories are MINE and mine alone. If I show them to someone and I can CAUSE that person to FEEL something they weren't feeling before... it's an indescribable sensation.

Stories are the root of humanity. We use stories to understand our complex lives and relationships and the world around us. Whether that world is an alien planet, or a fantasy land, or a regular old downtown street... stories help us grasp who we are and where we are in this rich landscape of life.

Hope that answers your question :)

Did anyone else not enjoy reading Romeo and Juliet?

I never really liked the story much. I just found it to be a bit extreme. But I think it needed that to make it as popular as it is now. If they hadn't been over dramatic teenagers who were a little more rational, then it wouldn't be anywhere near as romantic or as tragic.
I don't really believe in love at first sight and I think that maybe that is why I had such problems believing that they'd go to such extremes.

Why do I enjoy reading but don't like writing?

Reading is easy. You don’t have to put in a lot of work except for maybe holding a book and letting your imagination flow.Writing on the other hand is constant head scratching, head banging bummer, a collection of frustrating moments because you can’t find the right words to create your work - then reading the material again and again loathing what you write deleting it again and hating your life.

Do u enjoy reading/writing poetry???

is it really as deep as people try and make it out to be or is it just psycho babble for folks who feel like the black sheep of society? i personally write poetry, however most people don't understand my message????

Why don't I enjoy reading books (so much) anymore? Did the internet ruin reading for me, or do books become less useful/insightful/enjoyable at a certain age?

I can definitely empathize with you. Not for the same reasons maybe, but I've experienced that same slow waning interest in reading books. When I was younger, I used to read a shit load of books. Any book I could get my hands on that seemed remotely interesting, I would find myself a nice spot to sit in and read without distractions. Time would pass by in a haze and was of little concern within this new exciting world that the author had magically conjured up from thin air. However as I got older, reading which was like second nature to me before became absurdly hard. I got distracted more easily. I couldn't focus for long periods of time when I read. I would fidget and find excuses to put the book down and do something else until all interest in that book completely dwindled. I completely stopped reading books a little time after that.A couple of months back, I decided to try once more. I was dejected when the same cycle started repeating again. I was almost ready to give up on books. This was when I came upon a new sci-fi series that was highly praised and acclaimed by many. I decided to give it a try. And to my wonder, I did not lose interest. Pages and time flowed and I hardly noticed either. Now this was in no small part due to the book and the plot itself. But I had discovered it again. That spark. That ability to lose myself within the pages and the plot and forget about everything else.It was incredible. And so my friend, I would suggest that you try again. You will lose interest in most of the books you read. Do not let that get you down. It's only going to take one amazingly well written book for you to rediscover that sense of wonder. And, trust me, it's the best feeling ever.

How do I enjoy reading English if I don't want to refer to a dictionary each time I meet new words?

You just keep reading. When you start out, you might come across several words you've never heard before. Now, for some of those unknown words, you might be able to form a vague idea of what they mean from the context. For example, "Roger lay low and ensconced between the bushes". You may have never heard of ensconced before, but you can tell it has something to do with either hiding or settling down someplace. This may not always work, and some of the unknown words may remain unknown. But as you keep reading, you may eventually come across the words in another context that will help you know what they mean. And don't just restrict yourself to reading novels or literary pieces; something as commonplace as reading a good newspaper everyday could help you discover new words.Referring to a dictionary is a quick and dirty solution to vocabulary building, but I think simply remembering meanings of words without context will not be very effective. I have found myself on more than occasion looking up the meaning of the same word, having forgotten the meaning from the last time I looked it up. But when I remember the context in which the word was used, I instantly know what it means. That is something you can do only if you read a lot.

Why Do I like Reading/Writing torture Fanfictions?

Reading graphic scenes like torture is quite addicting due to the shock value. It gives you a thrill and makes your heart pump, like reading an overly descriptive love scene. You get to see people's reactions in situations you'll probably never see in real life. Torture scenes have a lot of emotion and pain in them, and when a book provokes emotion from a reader, it becomes more appealing.

I'm not gonna tell you to stop reading stuff like that, but be wary of the effects it can have on your mind if you start to enjoy reading/writing torture too frequently. I hope you can enjoy reading other genres of fanfics.

Do you think that you can enjoy reading, writing and reciting poems? Why or why not?

Poetry is my everything. I write it when I'm happy, or when I'm sad. It's like a diary. A self expression. A letter. An opinion. A goodbye. A hello. It saved me from myself.
