Anyone Else Think That Cadets Is A Joke

Anyone else think that cadets is a joke?

Ethos is the same as the military. Turn up, get trained, get tested, pass. Learn new skills, train your self discipline.

Cadets has changed since the end of the world war. Requirements are different, parents don't appreciate their little darlings playing with knifes, explosives and getting thrown out of trucks. In fact they do sue for such things.

If you want to prepare for the military, learn some self discipline, how to organise your own kit, and how follow orders. Sometimes you don't agree with what's going on, but you have to crack on anyway.

The uniform CAN take a while to come in from HQ, there's always a good reason for this and the QM grows grey hair faster for this precise reason.

It IS boring at first on the basic cadre but you need to learn the basic stuff to progress. First two weeks of Royal Marine Commando training is how to iron your kit for example. Or was when they had dpm.

Cadets does get better, a lot better. So if you have the patience and the focus stick with it.

Thinking about joining the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M, should I do it? Pro's and con's anyone?

I'm not in the Corps but this is what I've seen/heard from my experience at Texas A&M. I just left a few...

Pros:
You will meet a lot of people within the Corps
You have good seats for sporting events
If you want to join the military post college you will start out with a higher rank and pay
You will be involved in many school activities

Cons:
Your life will revolve around the corps and all your conversations will probably be Corps related
They wake up early
You will have to cut your hair if you are a male

Other things to consider: What really matters is whether or not you want a strict structured lifestyle. Many people in the Corps enjoy having that structure in their lives. Also, you will living on campus and participating in school activities which will help you feel more connected to Texas A&M. From what I hear the Corps is no cake walk.
You are basically living a military lifestyle. When you first start out as an underclassmen you will have to answer to the upperclassmen. But after a while you will become an upper classmen and the seniors who I have talked to love it.
I know I am not an expert just trying to give you some help from what I see.
Either way enjoy your time at Texas A&M!!

What does it mean if someone calls someone else a "space cadet"?

It is referring to the space between your ears where your brain SHOULD BE, but doesn't seem to be there. Only "space" between your ears, meaning that you are unable to think or reason things out.

What do you think about West Point cadets kidnapping and seriously injuring the Air Force Falcon mascot before the Army/Air Force football game?

A2A from Guy D. McCardle, Jr.I seem to be the only Alumnus from one of the U.S. Service Acadmies to respond to this query as of 11:55 a.m. (EST) on 4 Nov. 2018. As my profile indicates, I’m a member of the class of 1982 from the United States Naval Academy (USNA).I appreciate the comments submitted so far; however…It seems that - so far - the focus is on punishment or retribution against the Cadets from the United States Military Academy (USMA). I can say with certitude that the entire Corps, and especially the Cadets involved are heartsick at what has transpired. I can also state with certitude there was no intent to injure Aurora. There was a lack of knowledge about the care and handling requirements for a Falcon which would seem obvious, but clearly was missed by the Cadets. Over the years, USNA Midshipmen and USMA Cadets have participated in give and take with respect to our mascots (goat and mule respectfully). The care and handling for both is relatively similar, so temporarily holding a mascot hostage was not a big deal…all in good fun. However, a Raptor - although relatively robust - is in comparison a very fragile animal.I’m not attempting to negate the thoughtlessness of this unfortunate incident. The involved Cadets will be held accountable - they probably have already turned themselves in. Cadets ARE Honorable. But should their careers be ended before they start over this? No.Two things…we should pray (as you may be inclined and in the way you may chose) and send positive vibes for Aurora’s recovery; second, the Service Academies need to use this as a teaching opportunity. There are consequences for our actions.

What do you make of Sen. Tammy Duckworth’s “Cadet Bone spurs” comment regarding Donald Trump?

Senator Tammy DuckworthAlso known as Lt. Col Tammy Duckworth who lost both her legs when her helicopter was shot down by an Iraqi insurgent in 2004?President Donald TrumpThe man who went to a military academy for high school and then did everything he could to avoid service. The man who got draft deferments for 8 years during Vietnam, the second to last of which was due to bone spurs in both heels?[1] The bone spur diagnosis being a lie as a favor to the man's father?[2] (not that it matters).[3] The man that called Senator McCain a “loser” for being a POW during the same war that he effectively dodged?[4]Donald Trump (center) Senior in High School (NY Military Academy)I think she can say whatever the hell she wants to him. She’s earned at least that. It’s an appropriate criticism of his character, it’s witty, even if it is a little childish.I think if he tries to retort in any way to her taunt he’ll be the loser. I won’t frown on someone making a choice to not serve the military. I can’t respect a man who lies, cheats, and steals to avoid service and then unfairly criticizes those who do serve.Considering her moniker was in a rebuttal of him literally calling her, someone who lost both legs defending the country, treasonous for not applauding his self congratulatory ramblings like a trained monkey, I find it highly appropriate.[5] He claims it’s a “joke,” but I’d wager that’s only because it went over like a lead balloon.[6]Footnotes[1] Donald Trump's Draft Deferments[2] New York Times: Daughters of foot doctor say he diagnosed Trump with bone spurs as 'favor' to Fred Trump[3] What happened when Trump showed me his foot[4] Trump slams McCain for being ‘captured’ in Vietnam; other Republicans quickly condemn him[5] Donald Trump thinks not clapping for him is 'treasonous'[6] https://www.azcentral.com/story/...
