Anyone Employed With The Texas Health And Human Services Commission

What is the law concerning making employees stay at the work place when there is no water?

It is a total violation of not only labour laws but also Basic Human Rights to make employees stay at the work place when there is no water.
Please bring it to the notice of Human Rights Commission( either by yourself or through any member of public) and your problem will be solved !!!

Why is the unemployment rate in Texas so low?

Texas has the oil industry and related businesses. It has a large service sector and there is a significant military presence. Maybe Texas learned its lesson from the real estate busts of the 1970's and 1980's that hurt so badly and didn't go overboard this time.

What are the benefits for Home Depot employees?

Home Depot employees don't receive discounts. Instead, all employees that work an average of 20hrs a week are eligible for benefits (dental/drug). All employees have stock shares and receive quarterly bonuses (assuming your store has reached Plan). However, many times when a product is on clearance, employees are the first to hear about it. We are the first to hear when BBQ models are on sale, when cull lumber is available or when there's a decent colour with the mistinted paint. If there's overstock that goes on manager special, employees are the first in line to buy it. No insider information — just the advantage of being there before/after hours. If you know the business well enough, you'll become familiar with profit margins and know where you can receive a decent discount if you ask a supervisor. (FYI, profit margins in lumber are less than 10% so it's the hardest department to receive discounts unless the lumber is in terrible shape)Home Depot empowers their employees and allows them to discount specific items up to $50, no questions ing to buy a $30 can of paint and it's sold out, a Home Depot employee can give you a better quality can of paint for the same price or knock off $10 on a cheaper can of paint. You can use this to your advantage if you don't abuse it.

Whatquestions do they ask you at alorica on your interview?

I actually just interviewed at Alorica today. Most of questions asked were "what would you do?" type of questions like "how would you handle an angry customer?" or "What would you do if the call volume was really high, the supervisors were busy, and you didn't know the answer to the customer's question?" It's basically to see how how you would handle things. They also ask you things like "How many days do you think is acceptable to miss?" (The answer is zero, they have a very low tolerance for people who call in all the time).

The interview wasn't bad at all. As long you pass the drug test, and background check you will probably get the job.

I'm sure you'll do fine. Good luck!

Anyone Know Anything About Houston, TX?

WOW...Juan is quite comprehensive. All I can tell you is that the Hotel Derek is located in a really great spot (and no, in that area there really isn't much that is more reasonably priced). The hotel is located at Loop 610 & Westheimer which is one block from the world renowned Houston Galleria (Huge mall) and very near many of Houstons' hot spots for nightlife. Take a cab...
As far as dining, your hotel is centrally located and you can pick & choose as you like. Sorry, I would recommend some places but I don't know what you like and Houston has it all.
If the consierge at the Derek doesn't know about what you are interested in just call the St. Regis Hotel (formerly The Ritz-Carlton & is only a couple blocks away from your hotel) and ask for the consierge...he will answer all of your questions and you are getting a free service as they will presume that you are a guest there & are paying a fortune.
I know...dishonesty isn't good but you only have ONE weekend...Make the best of it and please don't think badly of me.
Enjoy your trip!

How do you feel about this Jailed illegal immigrants costing Texas $153M a year?

AUSTIN, Texas — Undocumented immigrants cost the state hundreds of millions of dollars each year, executives of state agencies said Wednesday.

They delivered that message to state legislators during a meeting of the House Committee on State Affairs.

It is a message that is likely to be a sticking point as the state looks for ways to make up a budget deficit of up to $18 billion.

And it is one that could become a point of contention as some Republican legislators push a state immigration law that mimics one in Arizona.

The state spends an estimated $96 million on medical services for undocumented immigrants, according to figures from the Health and Human Services Commission.

Other state workers said about 9,800 inmates with federal immigration "holds" were in state prisons. Their care cost an estimated $153 million after a $17.9 million federal reimbursement.

Several lawmakers said Texas was being saddled with costs that should be the responsibility of the federal government.

"It's kind of up to the feds if they want to create programs to reimburse state costs in connection with undocumented workers," said committee Chairman Burt Solomons, R-Carrollton.

State Rep. Rene Oliveira, D-Brownsville, said he was happy that talks centered on facts and figures, but he said no one provided any information about how much undocumented immigrants contribute to the state's economy. That, he said, will have to be considered before lawmakers start making decisions that affect millions of people.

About 1.4 million undocumented immigrants bolstered Texas' economy by an estimated $17.7 billion in 2005, according to a 2006 report from the state comptroller.

Back then, Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn estimated that state revenues from undocumented immigrants exceeded what the state spent on services for them by nearly $425 million.

But, she said, it was the reverse for local governments and hospitals, which had an estimated loss of nearly $929 million in 2005.
