Anyone Go To Connections Academy

Anyone in Connections Academy?

Hello! I'm possibly going to CA for my sophomore year because I honestly dislike my school's district, the judgmental teachers, & ignorant students. I've already done research of the school and love it already but I'd like to ask some questions.
1) How's your schedule?
2) What classes do you have?
3) What grade are you in?
4) Do you enjoy it? (Rate)
5) Social Life?
6) How's the assignments? Like, how do you usually do it?
7) Are there any language classes?
Thank you in advance! No comments saying "don't do online school, it's lame". I won't listen to your ignorance. Lol. Thank you!

Has anyone used the k12 or Connections Academy?

I've never used K12 as a virtual academy/school, but I have used the curriculum (purchase it myself) for 5.5 years. I LOVE it, and so does my son.

If you can get the benefits of a VA/VSP, then go for it! :-) I've never had a choice. I did work for two K12 VSP's doing open houses and trainings of the K12 system. I'm very familiar with the virtual schools b/c of that.

I recommend you join the K12 Users Yahoo Group. You can get input about the two schools there. There's even a "K12 vs. Calvert" (CA uses the Calvert curriculum) files of comparisons.

This is what I've heard being on K12 boards for six years - CA/Calvert is very "textbookish" and boring. It does not use different learning styles. Literature is "readers" - not *real* literature. It's not very challenging at all. OTOH, K12 have activities for all types of learners and using real, wonderful literature, or adaptations. Their scope & sequence is amazing.

You should also attend any virtual, or IRL K12 virtual school presentations. This will give you a better look into the program.

K12 is computer-based, so if that doesn't fit your family's dynamics, it's something to consider. The virtual school will supply you with a computer and all the materials, and may even reimburse you for Internet fees. Most also supply a printer or a printer-fax-copier.

I am a Christian, but I cannot find an equal to K12 in the Christian curriculum market. Not only that, K12's dynamic online planning and progress tools are so nice to have! You know exactly where you are at all times. You can change the plan around (within some parameters of the school) and all sorts of great stuff.

You should realize also, that using a K12 or Connections Academy is using a public school, so you won't be considered a "true" homeschooler. Some HS groups may bar you from participating. Other's don't care what you use - as long as your doing home education of some kind.

Let me know if you have more questions. If you look back through my past K12 answers, you'll find more.

Has anyone enrolled for Connections Academy?

I enrolled my son in it a few years ago and it was a good program. It wasn’t for him, though, since he’s more of a hands-on learner. I finally unschooled him and that worked for us. You can always try it and see if it works for you. Good luck!

Is the online school Connections Academy good?

Hey. I'm a junior at Connections Academy and it is absolutely wonderful. It is an accredited school and a lot of the kids who graduate from here get into good colleges. I have had some problems with other "normal" high schools and I was very behind on my credits. I've only been at this school since the beginning of this school year (in Oregon it started late August) and I've already completed four half credits. My goal is to get four more half credits before January.

I like this school because I have all my work right in front of me and all I have to do is read a few pages from an online book (some of the classes you have real books too) and then I'll be able to do the work. For some of the classes all you do is follow the directions and you're done. I'm about a month ahead in my works time line. And I say that because at other schools you are basically waiting for everyone else in the class.

I hated having to wait for everyone to finish reading a booklet or whatever we had to read because I always read it before them. Here I can finish my work as fast or as slow as it takes me.

Each day I will have a couple different classes and if I do all the assignments for them I'm done. You're supposed to work six hours a day for attendance (The parent logs into the Connections Academy website and records their students attendance hours) and you have to go to a few Live Lessons (it's basically an online classroom where the teacher talks and shows you their computer screen and you can talk to the students (in an appropriate manner) and ask the teacher questions.)

Connection Academy has been great for me.

Also, if you do the Public Connections Academy it's free. You will need a few things (I had to get Antacid tablets for a science product, two dollars) to complete some assignments but that's easy.

Connections Academy works hard at keeping their students safe too. They never ask the kids to do anything they haven't already done.

Sorry my answer is so long. :)

Reviews on Connections Academy?

Connections Academy offers Live Lessons, but not just from a teacher's classroom/desk...you can actually explore different environments as your teacher visits other countries, experience the depths of the ocean as your teacher does research on ocean life at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, view a dissection of a frog rather than get your hands all gooey and gross, and so many other fun ways of learning through online lessons. You can choose from 10+ languages to study from (not just a handful, like the brick & mortar schools offer)...including sign language. Attending Connections Academy will allow you some flexibility to participate in other activities of your choice, such as volunteer work or a job or music/dance lessons or practicing for a sport. There are always teachers available to help you when you struggle...online tutoring, after hours sessions, webmail, phone calls. I highly recommend Connections Academy and their wonderful staff. Take a look at the link I posted for even more information.

JUST NEED SOME HELP!!!(ANSWER IF YOU WENT TO CONNECTIONS ACADEMY!)?

Yes, you will send everything back as long as you are not continuing next year. If you re-enroll for the next year, then you will keep everything except the books. They will send you shipping labels. You will box up whatever you are sending back and they will send you shipping labels. You will then call UPS and they will come pick everything up for you at your house.
