17th century vocabulary anyone?

I'm writing a book, part of which takes place in the 1680's and would like to include authentic vocabulary. Most online searches are rather pathetic. Do you know any suggestions for a good place to look or reference? This will be in English, there are lots of French references, but neither I or the characters use French.

What is a word for someone who has a very good vocabulary?

I'm looking for a word that describes someone who has a very good command of vocabulary. Not necessarily that they are verbose or sesquipedalian, but that they know an extensive amount of words most people wouldn't and use them well in writing or speech.

I know this is an odd question, but if anyone has a suggestion I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

I need to find the right word! Anyone with a good vocabulary?

When the word cacophony first originated, around 1650-1650, it was intended to convey only the meaning of a medley of sound, often uncoordinated and unpleasant.
During the past 350 years, the word has been borrowed to describe any number of disparate representatives of some single subject, primarily smell. It has been used so often by so many writers to indicate a mixture of smells that it is now commonly accepted to use the phrase "cacophony of smells".

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to study vocabulary for the SATs?

I am pretty good with the math part, and would be good on the verbal parts if I just knew what the big words meant. If anyone has any suggestions on how to study the vocabulary it would be great to know.
