How have popular American hairstyles changed over the years?

Speaking only for women, the biggest change I've noticed has been the difference in the amount of time American women spend on their hair.If you notice here, the last three decades in women's hair have one prominent thing in common.They are low-maintenance.Compared to the early decades of the 20th century, the hairstyles of the 90s, 2000s, and 2010s are nearly interchangeable. Women today simply don't have the time to roll up their hair in soup cans every night or spend a good chunk of their morning spraying their hair with chemicals to achieve maximum volume.Why is this?Well, in the last thirty years or so, the American lifestyle has become a lot more fast-paced. That's one reason. The other is that women are a lot more involved in the workplace due to changing values, expectations, and feminism.Both of these things, in turn, leave little time for women to spend on their hair.Hence, the lazier, more natural styles.Image Source
