Anyone With Any Reference Regarding Quantity Surveying In Roadworks Will Really Appreciate.

Q. What is Variation Order? When the client gives a certain job to a Contractor, it is called a Work Order. This work order is based on certain scope of works which is defined by the design, drawings, specifications and other documents enshrined in the contract. When the Contractor is required to do certain things outside this defined scope of works, either by means of the client’s instructions to do so, changes in design, statutory requirements etc. then they are issued what is known as a Variation order to the original work order.E.g. A Subcontractor is given the work of Excavating in soft soil. While excavating they come across hard rock. Then they will be issued a variation order to excavate the hard rock as the original work order mentioned only soft soil.

You would like to know the roles of a Quantity surveyor in tendering and contracting ?In my view , these are the basic roles :Study of the drawingsPreparing /Drafting the specificationsIdentifying items of workDetermining the bill of quantities for the itemsRate analysis for individual itemsDetermining the tentative quantities Establishing the terms & conditionsStipulating the special conditionsPreparation of the tender documentsPreparing the price comparisons charts Taking decisions on extra items executed Budgeting /estimation [ Pre-during-post execution ]variance analysisJustification for the varianceHandling the BIM's  [ For modern day works ]Managerial /administrative roles have been excluded here.Hope these roles are quite clear from their descriptions. You are most welcome to seek clarifications ( if any ).All the best !

Quantity Surveyors have to be dynamic . There is no fixed position for QS , if required they have to move to site and at the same time , they have to be good with office documentation work as well.A QS should be good at AutoCAD , Microsoft Excel and knowledge of extra Estimation softwares is added advantage . Some of Estimation and costing softwares are Road Estimator, MX Roads , CCS Candy , CostX and many moreQS must have very good negotiation and convincind skills as Job requires a person to negotiate prices while finalising vendors and subcontractors . He must be able to analyse rates and convince the vendors to reduce rates demanded by them. One must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and should have sound knowledge of tips and tricks in Excel at the same time must be very smart in maintaining the data .He must communicate with different departments like stores and Survey to get the data of items procured , items left as stock on site to complete the job of reconciliation of materials month wise .QS also do the job of billing . Billing Engineer has to prepare all documents required to claim the amount for works completed in billing cycle . Bill is made using Excel which contains all the items of BOQ their rates , quantities executed and total amount .Along with bill , measurement sheets of works , lab test reports. Must be attached to make the client aware of all works which are executed .QS also has to book the data in Enterprise , Resource , Planning software which in my case is SAP MM Module to enable the Head office know about financial conditions of all sites . Prepration of Purchase requisition , Purchase orders , Work orders , and lot more activities are done through SAP only .Sorry for personal reasons I don't want to disclose my salary. But QS are paid much better compared to their peers working at Site. After gaining knowledge , A QS can start his own consultancy and earn much higher in life.

Will quantity surveying be of any importance in the future?People believe that quantity surveying is just about measuring quantities and preparing BOQs. Well, it’s much more than that actually!A Quantity Surveyor prepares estimates of the project cost at different stages of the project, prepares budgets, cashflow statements, cost reports, tender documents, they send enquiries, carry out negotiations, finalise the contracts, administer those contracts, certify payments and so much more.So as long as there are Construction projects, be it buildings or infrastructure, be it on the earth or the moon, Quantity Surveyors will always be required!

I have a job interview for a quantity surveying firm, please help.?

Believe it or not I studyied Building Surveying also, and then took a graduate job as a QS in Leeds.

The wages are much better and I never looked back. l worked for EC Harris in Leeds city centre. Don't worry too much about your QS knowledge when an employer is looking for a placement student they are more interested in the person and even as a new graduate you will learn more in the job than at University. I adapted with ease in the QS office and anyone from a construction background should also, as long as they have basic maths skills.

Some basic QS tips. There are two types of QS. A PQS (Private Quantity Surveyor) who works with clients. They will be office based and work in consultancy firms in city centres usually. Then there is a Contractor's QS. They will be located on site, be employed by a Contractor and have a more hands on experience. I'm assuming your job is office based.

In that case, a PQS surveyor will prpeare cost estimates of projects by quickly measuring drawings and sketches (so be familiar with a scale ruler). Once a project design is given the green light the QS will prepare contract documents for tender which may include a "Bill of Quantities". Another role of the PQS is as an "Employers" agent. These QS's advise clients when they are appointing a Design and Build Contractor and their job is to ensure value for money for the client.

There are a few buzz words mentioned above, all of which will show you have a basic knowledge/interest in Quantity Surveying.
Other than that make sure you are happy with basic maths and can quickly work out areas, perimeters, percentages etc. Not difficult maths but you should practice a couple before you go. For instance if you are measuring the area of a building and their are curves on the plan, how do you measure the perimeter and area of half a circle etc.

If you'd answer this, I'd really appreciate it?

If you really dont like this guy, you can either do one of two things:
1.) just spend V-day with him, since you both would most likely
enjoy the company as friends.... and make that clear to him when he asks you...
2.) tell him that someone already asked you out and you have plans with someone....tell him your sorry, but that your really flatered he asked you...keep it nice n sweet, but not regretitive...
you dont want the guy thinkin, OH DAMN SHES BUSY, BUT SHE DID WANT TO GO OUT WITH ME... lol
get my point?

good luck...keep in mind that nice people also finish last. you dont want to hurt him, or hurt yourself in the future relationships.... being nice is one thing, but being true to what you want, is another...and i believe you can have both.

The courses PGP QSCM & PGP HSEM are offered only from the Hyderabad campuses. Both the courses are highly specialized and guarantee jobs in core sectors. There are two prime reasons why most people refrain from these courses:1. PGP ACM is the flagship course of NICMAR and guarantees better opportunities. 2. These courses are highly profile specific and therefore narrow down further scope in job market. However if you are genuinely interested in any of the above fields then those courses are really good. PGP QSCM will open doors in the construction sector, whereas PGP HSEM will open up opportunities even in petroleum, mining and manufacturing sectors.I would however recommend you to interact with persons who have done these courses through Linked-in or similar sites.

Feel good exclamations are best to use when being thankful. The way you phrase it makes a difference. Include the person in the response. Is that wonderful, Jane ?How gracious of you, Cecelia-?What makes you such a lovely person, Jack?Wow! You are the best ever, Robin! How can I repay you for this, Matt? When asking for somethingCan we both work on this project? Will you part of my success?I need your excellent thinking for this one!You always have the right answers!Be inclusive. Close the circle and be frank and open in response.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!?

Wow, wow, wow. I feel so darn sorry for you!!

He sounds like an extremely self centered, spoiled jerk. Why, why did you marry him????

You are being so very abused. It's obvious in your letter. A lot of times, it seems that people think that things will be "ok" after the marriage. Well, that is never the case. Never. You are finding that out now.
For real, I respect that you take your marriage vows very seriously and you don't want to end up in divorce court. But, wow, it's only going to get worse. It won't get better. It really sounds like your husband doesn't know what love is??
You are NOT being selfish and unrealistic. You are being abused...neglected...ugh...
Fast forward.....a few years. I hope you're divorced and on your way to sunnier days. I really, really can't imagine that you'll find happiness with this guy.

My heart just hurts for you. Wow. Best of luck to you. I am going to pray for you.
