Apply Online V. Apply In Person - Tips

Is it better to apply for a job online or in person?

Some jobs openings state whether they want you to apply online or not, but if you are not given a choice, I would apply in person ( the old way).

Anyone can fill out a job application, but to come in to meet the " person in charge" is different. He/ She gets to meet you in person and size you up. They get to look you in the eye and find out if what you are saying is the truth. They get to look at how you present yourself; your attention to detail in how you dress. Best of all, you both get to ask and answer questions, which is almost impossible on a form.

So, once again, if nothing specific is asked of you, apply in person.

What is it like to apply for a job in person?

Nothing. What does it feel like getting into a hotel and asking for food when you are very hungry? What does it feel like getting into College from School for the first time? Practice makes perfection.  Unless we face the failures / rejections we do not know the value of success. Do not have too many hopes and aspirations and expectations. Like you are meeting your first date, you feel slightly nervous but you won't show it. same thing.. you are going to join your life partner - in this case a job which is going to be with for life long, gives you pleasure, supports you, enable to make experiments and empower you..

What tips would you give to a person applying to a UWC for the written application and to what extent will grades matter in the acceptance process?

Hi,I think every application has its own unique vibe (unless you plagiarize) so my tips will not focus too much on the content, but rather on how you can be the most confident with it.Follow the instructions: please, this is important. If your National Committee says “put N/A where you don’t have the information”, put N/A. Don’t do ignorant things like leave it blank.Be careful with small details: re-read many times to make sure there is no grammatical mistakes etc. (unless intentional). As for the grades thing, I honestly can’t give you an apply-to-all answer. Generally speaking, they will matter, but they are not the only thing the National Committees look at.Good luck!

If given the choice do you prefer applying for jobs online or in person?

30000% in person. When applying online most companies these day have these so called ‘’applicant tracking systems’’. If you don't know what a applicant tracking system is read more about it here:8 Things You Need To Know About Applicant Tracking Systems - Jobscan BlogI don't want some software to screen my application. I want human eyes and mind to go over my application. For example lets say companies have open days and everyone are welcome to attend these open days. We bring our resume, our smile, our confidence and look our best. When you meet the HR staff/hiring managers you get the chance to sell your self in a different way. You get the chance to express yourself, communicate and show them a confident/warm body language. You get the chance to express your interest and passion for the job/company. You have more chances to score the job in person as you have more ways to express yourself, your skills and your interest. When applying online your application gets sucked into a system next to 100000 others. It is the software that initially filters candidates based on whatever quota and requirements the system been programmed to check/follow. I feel a lot of good candidates get eliminated this way. The only positive side about these applicant tracking systems is that it helps the companies to save money/time. These applicant tracking systems are designed for companies not for the applicants. These software's are the applicants worst nightmare while its heaven for the companies.

Going to apply at hooters! Who should i talk to one of the girls working or ask to see the manager? Any tips?

I used to work there and it was one of the most fun jobs I have ever had. It has NOTHING to do with your cup size, I was only a B cup when i worked there. It's all about the attitude, the smiles, and the flirting. Also, any hair product, make up, etc., is all tax deductible, since you are bettering yourself for the job,so make sure you save your receipts! The best time to go in is around 2, which is after the lunch rush. I had to go through 3 separate interviews, with each of the managers. I wore jeans and a nice top, a little low cut, LOL, and wore my hair down since that is what you will have to do when you work there. I did know one girl who they made hula hoop. I could never do that, but I was the best one at the limbo! Good luck!

Edit: Also, if you have any visible tattoos, or body piercings, make sure you cover those up!

What exactly does Apply In Person mean? im sorry im new at jobs?

It means show up at the company office physically, in person, with your resume (if applicable) to apply: don't just mail in your application, or telephone, or email it.

Does applying for jobs online really work?

I go on indeed.com, and apply for jobs in my area, but never hear anything back. I have a good resume, great work experience, and consistency. I go to places in person too, and they tell me to visit their website, and apply there. It just seems like its going to take me forever to find a job. I also posted a resume on EDD (unemployment office), so I really do want to work. I feel like such a loser, i havent had a job for 2 weeks already. Crap!!!

What are the best tips and tricks when applying for a job online or in person?

Job application stage is arguably the most vital in the whole job seeking process, many people still forgo making any real effort and submit low quality applications time and time again. You should Avoid such mistakes in your Resume. Make sure your cover letter and resume are different because its your first impression. You should know the REAL Goal When You Are Submitting Your Job Application.

What are some useful tips for applying at Starbucks?

So here are some super good job finding tips - especially with cafés.Go there first. If you walk in and drop off a resume or application and never go in again, your changes are low. Develop at least a basic relationship with a few baristas there. Small talk, ask a few questions about what the person's favorites are, ect.Casually ask if a barista if they are hiring. Usually everyone at the store will be aware of needs for help, or a severe overstaffing. If they say they are, try to get the manager's name. Come in dressed well, but not fancy, and ask to see “bob” (the manager) and give him your resume and a quick statement along the lines of ‘I don't know if you guys are hiring, but I wanted to drop my resume off just in case you were soon. I've been wanting to work here for a while’ then ask if they have a paper or online application. Apply. Stop in sometime the next week and let the manager know you finished the application and make sure to ingrain your name into their head.Lastly, if it is super busy, it's not the best time to inquire about these things. Wait till another time.

What advice would you give someone applying for UWC?

The UWC admission process is similar to those employed by universities. It is important to know that there is no "ideal" UWC student. In fact, the UWC movement prides itself on it's diversity, in all respects. What helped me most when I was applying was just being myself. I think this is the key. Because the selection committee is not looking for any particular individual make up, trying to seem perfect doesn't work as well as being sincere does. Tell it as it is. What do you think? What have you done? What drives you? Basically, the committee is looking for who you are.Not being honest in the application is being dishonest not just to the movement, but to yourself. One of the UWC values itself is personal integrity. Live by it. Otherwise, UWC is not for you. And trust that the application readers and interviewers are skilled enough discern the truth from the fluff.A final argument for being yourself: at UWCs, we  want people who are motivated and driven. We want people who will work towards our mission: To make education a force to unite peoples, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. So don't be embarrassed about being yourself. It'll get you a lot further if you're not.Other than that, I strongly suggest you research into UWC. Look at the values we espouse. Look at the methodology, the alums and the people we have here. Reach out and talk to alums and current students. Basically, understand what the movement is. Don't just apply because UWCs have great college placements. Apply because what we do resonates with you. Otherwise, there is no point in going to a UWC.Good luck!
