No he's not! Lots of emotional & flowery answers here, but the most upvoted ones are overrated in my opinion with a lot of sugarcoated crap & sympathy because of this foolish reason that they believe AB deserves a World Cup... In fact, this is one question where Quora has disappointed me - a community where the majority have a sick over the top superiority complex over their Facebook counterparts & brag about it, some of the arguments are worse than 'the unintellectual' 'lesser' people. Let's get this straight - It's not a player ( no matter who he is) but a team that deserves the World Cup. And deserving & actually winning is just about that 1 day - where either the other team is better or in the last six 50 over world cups you just choke under pressure.The World Cup is an award for the team that plays well throughout & the best in the most important games. Nothing more, nothing less. It's not like the Ballon D'or in Football. DiCaprio has no Oscar, Marley has no Grammy & South Africa don't need a World Cup to prove their greatness as one of the most consistent teams even though they still lack cricket's most coveted prize in their kitty.I really don't care being the odd one out here. Yes, I am an AB de Villiers fan too, and there's no doubt that he's the best batsman in the world at present. And I don't know if the question was edited, but otherwise, the question is about his greatness as a cricketer : not about his humility, not about his charm or behaviour & certainly not about all the non cricketing skills & records that he possesses. AB de Villiers is a modern day Jonty Rhodes when it comes to fielding & one of the greatest entertainers with the bat : incomparable with anybody else who's played the game before because of the unconventionality about his stroke play. Who is better cricketer (not batsman!): Sachin Tendulkar or Mahendra Singh Dhoni?
MS DHONI, by a long shot. Here’s why:1.) Batting in ODI:Dhoni has a better Average and strike-rate mainly due to the number of times he remained not out and finished the game. Sachin has a lot more runs than Dhoni. Opening the innings and playing a lot more matches than anyone else contributed to such a record. To be fair, Sachin has slightly better batting scorecard than Dhoni. Sachin is the winner in this section 2.) Captaincy:Sachin was the captain b/w 1996-2000 and these were not the best times for indian cricket. It was even worse when Dhoni took up the captaincy in 2007, after being eliminated in first round of 50 over WC. What does Dhoni do in the first tournament as Indian Captain .Helps india to be T20 WC 2007 champions. Dhoni, the clear winner here. Dhoni won the 2007 T20 with a young team, 2011 WC with an experienced team and 2013 CL again with a young and inexperienced team. 3.) Dhoni is a big match player. One example is WC 2011 final, 91 not out in a tense match. Sachin in the very match scored a mere 20 despite the venue being his homeground, Mumbai. The same goes with 2003 WC final, sachin was out for 4 in that crucial match. Also whenever Dhoni has a big score, India ended up on the winning side. 4.) Dhoni is a street smart cricketer. While sachin is a great batsman , Dhoni is a great cricketer. If you ask a coach to choose only 1 player among the two, most of them would go with Dhoni.
Why Indian team was choker under Ganguly's captaincy while playing finals of tournaments?
I'm done with this debate. You can't do much when someone's closing his years and shouting his own,. and writing an essay again isn't worth it. Ganguly taught India how to go for a win? Okay, Dhoni taught them how to beat the champions, be the champion, win matches out of nowhere like the CT final, make comebacks like the WC 2011 and so many matches, how to pull out of a tight situation and win most of the matches that gets close. But one thing what Dhoni taught us what may well be overlooked by people other than genuine cricket fans, which may well change our future. That is the importance of fieliding. And we saw that in the CT. Dhoni taught us that winning matches isn't all about being aggressive, he taught us that you may not be a star to win matches for your nation. If Ganguly taught us how to dream, Dhoni taught us how to.turn them into reality. If dropping out.of form stars is selfishness, yes he is selfish. If supporting youngsters like Kohli, Jadeja, Raina, Yadav, Ashwin, the future stars is selfishness, yes he is selfish. If having an average of 50+ @ a SR of 85+ is selfishness, he is selfish. Dhoni is India's best ever middle order batsman, Sachin is the best ever top order batsman. Ganguly supported stars like Yuvraj, Zaheer Khan, Bhajji, Sehwag? Well, they made their comebacks under Dhoni. You must credit their coaches for their talent, and Dhoni for a second.opportunity. And you never know, the current.pool.of.youngsters may well be the future stars. You saw the previous two matches, India's coordination in the field wasn't that good. Anyways, if just teaching your team to dream makes you the best captain ever, then Ganguly is the best captain, but remember, fulfilling them is more important. A building just with a strong base is useless. And last but not the least, Dhoni himself built our current team.
