People, look at her profile. :P
Joined today. 4 of the same question....hmmm, that's totally un-suspicious!

Are all actors and actresses sociopaths since they can manipulate emotions on a movie, or no?

Actors don't manipulate emotions, they express emotions as instructed by the script, and enhanced variously depending on the medium by lighting, music, staging, camera angles, etc.

How does that make them sociopaths? A sociopath demonstrates anti-social behaviour. You seem confused by the English language.

EDIT: Athena's post is ridiculous. Actors are not more likely to have a "thin" mental state than anyone else. The fact that the occasional "star" pops up in the press is because they are famous, not because they are actors. Plenty of dentists could have mental health issues, but it would never get in the papers. Journos and papparazi long to find salacious stories about famous people, whether they are true or not, and many "celebrities" are happy to get in the papers at any price. That has nothing to do with acting.

Are there an above average number of sociopaths who are actors?

I doubt it. Based on my own particular sociopath, sociopaths are not particularly good at portraying emotions. They know what to do and what to say to make a situation occur, but they don’t generally put much effort into getting to know the people involved. They’re not interested in why people behave the way they do. They’re interested in provoking new behaviors. They do it for fun, not as a test or a study. Consequently, they don’t necessarily link someone’s facial and bodily reactions with a given emotion. They’re capable of it, but most of them don’t care enough to make the effort. They enjoy being who they are and they derive their entertainment out of ordinary every day life. It’s unusual for them to put the effort into linking the two well enough to do anything with it and it would be even more unusual for them to want to perfect that masks by interacting with others with masks. While I wouldn’t rule out wanting to play with other people on a grand scale, it’s just too much effort for too long for too little return for your average sociopath. My own sociopath is terrible at acting any role except himself. He cannot roleplay and despises any kind of sexual roleplay. He is capable of faking reactions, but not of pretending to be another person. He doesn’t have that much empathy. He only cares about the things and people that he values. He values very few things. Pretending is not one of them.I suppose you might get a strange sociopath, but I’d think they’d be few and far between. Brilliant, mind you. When a sociopath puts the full force of their caring behind a topic, they can be overwhelmingly committed brilliant hard workers. But few.

What is the reason that some people feel that Pierce Brosnan was not a good 007?

When a role gets taken over by a new actor, the actor has two central challenges, which can be contradictory:1) Bring something new to the part. What do you have to offer that the other guy did not?2) Keep what people love about the character. You want to be different, but not so different that you alienate the people who enjoy the franchise. When I watch Brosnan, I struggle to see what he brings that’s new. He is as suave as Moore, and occasionally as campy, but seems to be resisting the total slide into silliness, bringing back a little of the edge to the character that Connery gave him. As a result, his characterization feels like a greatest hits version of what has come before. At the time when his movies came out, this seemed fine. After all, the character is fairly one dimensional. What other choice did Brosnan have? He was being true to the movie Bond we all know. But then Daniel Craig came along, and pushed the character in a new direction — much more of a working class hero who could care less about the classic Bond cliches. (I love when he gets asked if he wants his vodka martini shaken not stirred, after a terrible night, and he snarls, “Does it look like I give a damn?”) Craig reinvented the character to some degree, which is always more interesting to watch. And yet somehow, he still felt like James Bond.Brosnan has been quoted as thinking he didn’t really nail the part. I do think his movies are entertaining, and they certainly did well at the box office. I just don’t find them very memorable, and I think that’s because they stick to a formula that had started to feel old.

Wouldn't a psychopath be an excellent actor?

Yes, but what they portray is more manipulative than "acting" most psychopaths are excellent manipulators and can get individuals to believe a lot of false information. Many psychopaths appear charming, nice, and charismatic, but most of the time they are plotting something devious and destructive. Though a normal person can rarely see their true intentions. They can take manipulation to great lengths and gain a lot of trust within their peers and often time even strangers. So I guess you can say most of the time they are very convincing and deceiving "actors".

What's it like to use acting skills in everyday life?

Disclaimer : Evil AnswerIf you want to be successful in people manipulation, just knowing the tricks won't do. You need to have acting skills to execute these nasty tactics.Of course what I'm talking about here is very unethical, probably immoral. But let me share you a different perspective about what a person needs to manipulate people. You should be free of morality. ( ASPD people are so by design)Next thing you need is wisdom about life, complete knowledge of all manipulation techniques and an emotionless rationality inside aka apathy. Now because you're apathetic and calculating inside, in order to manipulate people you will need to manufacture synthetic emotional responses aka acting.Without acting skills you'll be just a good strategist/evil advisor. But having acting skills along with point 1 & 2 will make you a complete manipulator. So sociopaths of quora you need to focus on your acting skills if you really wanna get in the game. For me I can't get rid of morality fully, so I just have point 2 checked for me. Also not a great actor. But I'm quiet aware of manipulation tactics, due to curiosity I guess:p
