Are Americans Afraid Of Whats Coming

Why are Americans so afraid of communism?

I grew up in Soviet Union in the 70s, 80s then when in fell apart through early 90s - so well past Stalin’s reign of terror and everything that made communism “evil” I have very benign memories of that time (I was 21 when we emigrated, and remember pretty much everything). Like any socio-political frameworks,it has its pros and cons: universal access to healthcare, free childcare, 2-year maternity leave with guaranteed return to your previous job, free education all the way through college, paid sick time, paid 24 days of vacation, fantastic Public Safety, secure retirement, job security, etc . Along with that – unfettered corruption, theft of public property (because nobody owns anything), everyone was on the poor side (except for party officials or other people in positions of power, where they could steal government funds), deplorable public transportation, lack of housing and bunch of other small indignities we suffered every day. But overall – it could've been so much worse… While I don't yearn for the return (or second coming) of communism, I don't think that communism in and of itself is evil. You have to remember that people have dreamt and aspired to a perfect Socio economic order for centuries – going back to Thomas Mann’s “Utopia”. But in the end, any system that is ran by flawed human beings will always fall short of ideal. I honestly believe there are a wonderful sites to both capitalism and communism – if only we could combine the best of two worlds without proponents of either side going completely berserk about the compromise…

Why were some Americans so afraid of of the new wave of immigration?

jeez i was just wondering about the late 1800s and the early 1900s...urbanization...like nativists!!! you people don't have to be so mean...if you people are going to write crappy stuff, don't even waste your time, other people who have LIVES won't even bother to read the stuff you write.

Why is America so afraid of communism?

Hi katie..i'm not sure if it's fear of communism. I think it's more of a lack of understanding or antagonism towards communism as a result of ideological insecurity that the Americans think they have to exterminate the communism once and for all for the American ideals to last forever. But in actuality there's more than one way to skin a cat..so there's more than one way a government could be organized. And what a country should be like comes in all shapes and sizes depending on its history, culture and current state of development. The ideals of democracy and freedom are agenda the US is trying to push. Democracy sounds good but its not something one-size-fits-all. So you have to let other nations decide their future and the path they are ready to take. You can't and shouldn't impose your ideals and ideologies upon other nations.

But I personally don't care about all the -isms. I think it really doesn't matter one country is communist or capitalist. As long as people are rich, don't have to live in fears. It's fine even its called cannibalism. The phobia or antagonism towards communism is very much out-dated..and is very typical cold-war mentality

Why are Americans afraid of foreign countries?

Ok so first of all I'm 100% percent American and proud to be so. But heres what I don't get like, nobody I know wants to come out of their bubbles.

I'm a foreign exchange student in Germany right now, and I was talking with my parents about doing a trip through Mexico and Central America. They're just like ohhh NOOO you can't do that, it's dangerous. I ask why, and they're just like idk other nations...it's dangerous...I ask my brother if he would want to go to Mexico. What does he say? Wouldn't you rather go to Vegas? I'm like NO.

I just don't get it, and everyone else I know is like this except for one person. It just baffles me...Why and how can we (as a country) be so un interested in the world. Sometimes I feel like people think America is the world, and they have interests in anything beyond it. Or even knowledge... I just don't get it...
