Are Americans Clueless About What Is Happening To This Country

Truth or myth: most Americans are clueless about things happening outside the US?

i think of this is the two fact and myth. American's that do study up on present day activities exterior of the U. S. would have some information approximately mutually as on the comparable time it style of sounds like each and every little thing is filtered. I do think of American's have a terrible sense of geography and the place issues are whilst it is composed of a map- quite in California that's the place i'm at!!! i've got seen many situations, young ones and adults, no longer have the capacity to show out capitals on a map or discover such and such state in the midwest, yet they'd sing some McDonalds music. purely reason i've got self belief that i do no longer in advantageous condition into that classification is cuz i'm interpreting to be a instructor and am continually taking training from each and every possible undertaking. common, American's are cluesless a lot of situations.

Are all americans so clueless?

Sorry if my English is a bit off... I'm a tour guide from India and yesterday I picked up a few tourists from the airport..There were people from all over the world out of which 5 were Americans. Each of the 5 Americans were really surprised to see wide roads, tall buildings and fairly developed infrastructure....Why is that? What were they expecting when arriving in India? They were surprised to see modern civilization as if India is still some ancient village...Now my question is why are they so clueless and is this normal among Americans or is this just the few I met up with yesterday? I am trying my best not to generalize and that is why I'm asking this question. All the questions the Americans asked me dealt with poverty, slums, diseases etc yet none of the questions had to do with the history, culture, tradition, or modern Indian society. Many of the Europeans and Africans asked very interesting questions but the Americans seemed to be very negative and it was quite obvious that they thought very less of India and made me wonder why they came in the first place....Are they usually like this or was I just unlucky to have met up with the most ignorant? Everything they knew about India was the worst aspects of the country...They knew nothing positive about the country...So, are they usually like this?

Truth or myth: most Americans are clueless about things happening outside the US?

TRUTH.

Take a look at Bush. He had never even set foot in Europe before he ran for president! Seriously! Most wealthy parents at least send their kids off to Prague for the summer. But not this one. He has never demonstrated the slightest bit of interest in caring about anyone but himself and his friends, much less about people in other countries (unless they have oil). He's clueless.

Didn't you see him, when he first took office, come swaggering off of Air Force One to meet the Canadian Prime Minister? He shook his hand, patted him on the back and said, "Hola, Amigo!"

In fact, I wonder if Bush really knows much about his own country. I often times think he, himself, feels like Columbus discovering America. He's out of touch and so are many Americans who don't even read a paper or could even name one BBC program. Pathetic.

I read a New York Times article and it said that only about 25% of Americans even own a passport. And that doesn't even mean that they use it.

I have seen this ignorance, first hand, having studied in Florence, Italy. While I was trying to experience the culture, learn the language, and make European friends, most of the other American students were simply thrilled to find some pub that catered to expats (English speaking ones). This did not seem to be the case with the Canadians, Aussies, and Brits. They just seemed more curious.

It's really quite embarrassing. It's time for YOU...YOU... YOU, PEOPLE (Americans), to WAKE UP!

Why are Americans so clueless about Canadians?

I just visited Seattle with my school travel group, and I figured that since they are closer to Canada, they might actually respect us more as human beings. But no.

When I told the lady at the gift store I was from Alberta, I got a blank stare. She said "Is that in Europe?".

When I told some of my new American friends that Canada didn't have Mountain Dew in most places, they thought I meant I'd never had pop before so they bought me a bottle and kept saying "Try it! It fizzes in your mouth!" Like really?

When I told them that I lived on a polar bear farm and we usually used them to ride to school, they were all like "Wow, that is so cool!". This went the same for when I told them we owned pet wolves.

I also told them that I was really worried about global warming becaue our igloos were leaking and we had to pack more snow on to stop the melting. They were soooo concerned for my igloo lol.

Like C'MON PEOPLE! I know all of the states, most of their capitals, and I don't make stereotypes like, "Southern people in America are all hicks and like fried chicken" or "Everyone in California surfs and is model-beautiful". I know the main leaders and structure of your government, the main points in your history, and the basic state of your economy.

I would just like it if some of the USA citizens made more of an effort to learn about their neighbor.

Do you think more Americans are clueless or well informed on politics?

They are clueless because it is not really taught in schools. Yeah we know how the first president was, who know that we fought a war with England, and the whole WWI, WWII, Vietnam, and so on. But we do not teach them the politics and structure as to how it works at all. I mean it is so sad and kinda does upset me. I mean I bet that 1/2 of the people you ask who is 3rd in line for the presidency if the president and vice president die, would tell you it was the Secretary of Defense or some other person. Few seem to know that it is the Speaker of the House, who is now Nanci Polosci. It is so sad. They have no idea what there congressmen are elected for and I bet 9/10 of them could not tell you where the closest office to there Senator is from where they live. People don't seem to understand what the parties are standing for anymore and I have to agree I am now becoming one of those fools. This needs to be addressed and researched and explained in a history or social studies class because us Americans are getting dumber with each generation. If this keeps up we will be in big trouble one of these days within the next 50 to 100 years, watch and see if I'm not right if you are still around then. I bet money on it.

Why are the majority of Americans clueless as to the impending economic collapse?

Unfortunately, most people are clueless with regards to economics period. I think that was by design so the politicians could get their agenda by an uninformed populace. The government run school system doesn't teach economics (or civics) anymore and that is a downright shame.

But still, with the availability of the Internet and some willingness to do a little work, people could inform themselves.

I don't know that we are on the 'verge' of hyperinflation, but I know QE2 is not good for the nation. Until there are more jobs and the unemployment rate begins to decrease, I don't really see any hope for the nation to recover. I don't see any policy on the horizon that will address that critical issue.

What are you doing to help educate your fellow citizens about what is going on around them? I actually do discuss the issue of economic policy at work and have discovered that almost everyone at every level is interested and wants to be informed, but you have to break it down into its simplest form to help them understand. So I designed a little demonstration to explain International commerce to them and showed them what happens when one nation 'monetizes their debt'. All I did was use a piece of paper, put one in front of each participant and wrote their name down and said "You are now the nation of [name inserted]", then I took some coins (5 dollars per person) and put it on the piece of paper and explained that the money was the value of their domestic output on the international market, and finally I added $2.50 to my pile of money and said I bought my own nation's bonds by letting my Fed print more money. Then I showed them how other nations would devalue our currency. You should have seen the looks on their faces when the lightbulb went off. Then I pulled out my little copy of the Constitution and showed them Article One (as well as other parts) and they haven't stopped asking me questions since.

Why am I telling you this? Because I'm going to record a video of that same demonstration and put it online. People like you who follow these issues can feel free to download that video and show it to your less informed friends. When we get everyone up to speed, then we might be able to put a stop to this nonsense. I am refining that lesson and will let you know when it is available.

Anyone who wants a copy of the link can feel free to email me and I will forward them the link when the video is available.

Why are so many African american on here clueless or ashamed of kwanzaa?

when they dont even know what it is. Kwanzaa is NOT a replacement for Christmas, its a time of celebration. I dont care how or who created it or when, but the basic principles of kwanzaa would probably help more black people out in a LOT of ways. why do so many african americans act like we're cultureless besides hip hop and rap! here is an excerpt from a description on what kwanzaa is:

"Kwanzaa was created to introduce and reinforce seven basic values of African culture which contribute to building and reinforcing family, community and culture among African American people as well as Africans throughout the world African community. These values are called the Nguzo Saba which in Swahili means the Seven Principles. Developed by Dr. Karenga, the Nguzo Saba stand at the heart of the origin and meaning of Kwanzaa, for it is these values which are not only the building blocks for community but also serve to reinforce and enhance them."

The days of Kwanzaa are in African languages and are dedicated to helping ones self and our community as a whole. Each day is dedicated to:
FAMILY UNITY
SELF DETERMINATION
PURPOSE
COLLECTIVE WORK AND RESPONSIBILITY
COOPERATIVE ECONOMICS
CREATIVITY
FAITH

and its all taught through old African traditions and words. Its has NOTHING to do with whether you celebrate christmas or not! With all the poor black americans why do so many of you act like this is something we should have no interest in??????????
