What is media monopoly?
it generally means that the control of media lies with one person or company. although there are many media forms, the power of one particular company means that the others cannot compete. in reality, with news gathering, there is a duopoly- two companies have the power that others simply cannot compete. these are Associated Press (America) and Reuters (Britain). these two agencies are the forerunners in news gathering ie. collecting news which is then used in newspapers, television news and internet sites- for example, check yahoo news pages and generally at the top you will see either the logo for Associated Press (AP) or Reuters. this means that they effectively control what news is reported by whether they deem it necessary to collect it. they have huge numbers of reporters all over the world, meaning that they are able to get to a story before even local news and if local news do get there first, the technology powers of AP and Reuters means that their version of events will be transmitted before any other, meaning that the majority of world news is gathered and mediated by two western agencies who mediate news stories based on the needs of a western audience. this is the reason minority societies feel they are not represented fairly or truthfully in mainstream western media. another example, perhaps of a monopoly is the Murdoch empire, particularly with his ownership of a majority of the british press and the domination of digital television by his company Sky, though this is arguably decreasing as other companies are now competing, such as Virgin.

As Whitlam tried to correct this, Murdoch launched a campaign to unseat the Australian PM.In England, Murdoch worked with the CIA and Ml5 to get rid of Prime Minister Wilson.Murdoch was influential in supporting Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan.It was a Fox operative, and Bush relative, who threw the 2000 Presidential election by declaring that Bush had won.Bill Maher never tires of castigating the liberals in America for being spineless, that is because they were intimidated by Murdoch and his hired character assasins.

Republicans now control all three branches of government plus a majority of state legislatures. How could they have done this if Democrats controlled the media?Media is a plural word, meaning that it speaks with many voices. We have a diverse media in the US and we should be proud of it.
