Are Cats Happy In Small Spaces

I have a very small apartment, where should I place my cat's litter box?

For single-cat households I would use two litter boxes at opposite ends of your living room (socially significant area) in a corner or underneath a table or shelf. I (and most cats) prefer high sidewall litter boxes to completely covered ones. In multi-cat household, always provide +1 litter box for the number of cats you have. Also try different types of litter to assess preferences of your cat(s). Usually there’s enough room in most bathrooms, possibly keep it in a bathtub if the floorspace doesn’t allow you to move around it. Never in the kitchen and never near your cat’s food areas. We’re owned by 4 feline masters and despite 5 litter boxes dotted around the house, there’s NO STINK. Clean daily!

Are cats able to live in small apartments?

hi, I'm a student who just moved overseas and I get fairly lonely. I've been thinking about getting a cat for a while now. I've never owned one and I know it's a pretty big commitment, and I think I'm ready for it. However, I live in a very small studio apartment (think college dorm room) and I was wondering if this would be a problem for the cat. Also, is there any thing I should know before taking the plunge? any input is appreciated, thank you!

How do I get a cat out of a small space?

I'm feeling really quite stupid right now but my cat decided to explore under my bed and now I can't get her out... There's part of an antique wardrobe under there that she's hidden behind and I can't move it without disturbing my sleeping partner... Who's right on top of where I think the cat is.

She doesn't seem distressed but for my peace of mind I need her out. I've tried a torch, shaking an open cat food tin, baiting her with a toy, a loud noise to scare her out and everything.

There's a lot under the bed, most of which is too heavy for one person to lift by themselves, and my partner seems reluctant to wake up and help me.

Any ideas? I'm going out of my mind here!

Is my cat happy? [kept in small bedroom]?

Why is he limited to your room only? Do you live with family? What you can do is get an empty box and put it in the room (cheap for you) so he can jump inside of it (my cat's 7 years old and still loves doing this anytime I put an empty box on the floor, no matter how big or small she fits her way into it!)

You can get a variety of toys for your cat that don't cost much. Little toy mice, little balls with bells in them, or just little balls period. Cats love strings... You could tie a string from your ceiling (thumb tack it up there or something) so it's short enough that he can't grab it down completely, and long enough so he's able to jump at it and paw at it.

I wouldn't suggest taking your cat outside on the ground because he could catch fleas or ticks or other bad bugs. I take my cat out once in a while but just in my hands, and hold her firmly so she wont run off. She likes moving her head and looking at the birds and listening to all of the outside noises. Now that the weather's getting better, open the window so you just have the screen there. Your cat will lay in the window and look out and listen to the birds and traffic, and it's a nice cool place for it to be in the springtime. :) All a cat really needs is a loving owner and you seem great. Just make sure he gets his vaccinations and take him for check ups if he seems sick.

Is it wrong to have a cat closed inside a small apartment for her whole life?

Yes and I think that answer should be an obvious YES. Unfortunately people often find ways to justify locking up their pets, whether it's a bird in a cage or cat in an apartment. It's not a toy, it's a living creatures with a desire to hunt, play, climb and get an adrenaline rush running from danger. At the same time, I am against all these people getting cats just to let them run wild... They have no regards for society, the ecosystem nor the cat itself. In my case, my cat gets to go on walks with me at least 1 hour a day. Even today, when I had to stay there in - 15C. She's an indoor cat and she never runs away so I guess my case is a bit special as I rarely see anyone walking their cat, specially without a leash. It's clear to me those moments are important for her and she longs for them, that's a fact. Of course we play at home but nothing is more fun than watching birds, smelling where other cats have been and hiding in new places, smelling flowers or feeling the snow under the paws or roaring like a lioness when the neighbors little dog comes to close. And no harm is coming to her cause she has me, the best bodyguard ever =). What I am saying is; if you truly love cats you must also love to offer them a good life, from their perspective. Don't put a poor cat in a tiny apartment for your own amusement. Treat it like your kid!

Can a cat live a full and healthy life in a small 30sqm apartment?

Absolutely yes! Indoor cats will live longer healthier lives, safe from feline leukemia, predators, cars, contaminated food. They do have their needs however.  There is nothing quite like a window through which your cat might observe birds fluttering, life going on, while you are busy or away. There are perch-like shelves one can attach to the wall, quite decorative, just for the purpose of providing kitties a view. And because your cat will not be outdoors hunting and killing birds she will need you to provide a bit of hunting type excitement with cat toys. There are few things in life as much fun as an indoor cat as YouTube daily attests.

Is a 400 square feet apartment too small for a cat/kitten to live in?

i have a small cat, a young kitten and live in an apartment that is less than 400 square feet. can the cat live in such small space?

i dont like the fact that it always try to hide, so i keep it from going into the bathroom or laundry room or balcony. so it only has 3 rooms to roam which is bedroom, living and kitchen. i block off areas that it can hide such as behind refridgerator and under the bed. can it survive?
