Are Certain Dog Breeds More Prone To Separation Anxiety

How do you define "separation anxiety" in dogs?

With our dog, it was a case of being separated from one or both of us. If I were to leave and my husband were to stay in the room with our dog, he would still become very anxious. He would whine and scratch vigorously at whatever door I left through. He would attempt to chew the wooden door frames and he usually eliminated some where in the house. It worked the same if I were to stay and my husband were to leave.

On your second question, I wouldn't necessarily say that it is separation anxiety. It could also be boredom causing the dog to become destructive. I do not mean to say that it would definitely not be separation anxiety, but it isn't always.

ETA: with our dog, he came from a house of abuse and neglect. He didn't have a good start, so when we took him in, he had a lot to overcome. He was a very anxious dog. He's gotten a lot better though.

Great Dane – Prone to separation anxiety?

Would a Great Dane generally be happy to snooze through the day whilst its owner was at work (9-5). I have been given to understand the breed is relatively laidback is this correct?

Are Toy Fox Terrier's Prone To Separation Anxiety?

No, generally they aren't prone to separation anxiety.

They are prone to boredom which will lead to the exact same behaviors seen for separation anxiety.

Only get a Fox Terrier if you have lots of energy to work off. You'll need to take up jogging and some sort of sport with them. They're smart, stubborn and need to work.

Which dog breeds are more likely to experience separation anxiety when their owner is gone during the day?

Thanks for the A2A. I’m no expert, but I don’t believe the breed has anything to do with it. I believe there are numerous factors cause separation anxiety. My pup, 10 months, is fine when I leave the house (which is, I’ll admit, rarely). He goes right in his kennel (he’s a hardcore Kleenex killer so we can’t leave him out when we are gone) and has no problems with me leaving. Of course, my two older dogs are there to keep him company. Bedtime, however, is a different story. He has to sleep either against me or on me as if he’s afraid I’ll sneak off in the middle of the night and leave him. His issue? He was taken from mom a few weeks early, she was turning on her puppies, so off they went to new homes. I think the pup’s issue is separation anxiety. I’m sure there are many other reasons, but breed specific? I don’t think so. Like I said, I’m no expert, I could be wrong (gasp! No not ME! Wrong? Never!)

What's the best type of dog breed for a companion for a dog with separation anxiety?

Whatever you do, don't get a puppy. My dog has separation anxiety and every vet visit, my vet reminds me of this. My dog is a Lab and they tend to bond strongly with their humans, but I don't think they are especially prone to separation anxiety, hers occurred after she was injured as a puppy and became dependent on her first owner.I would recommend talking with a vet to see what type of companion they recommend for your dog. You should also ask them about training that will help your dog be calmer even without another dog.

Do labrabulls typically have separation anxiety?

Labrabull, what in the world is that. a cross between a dog and a male cow.
Honey there is no such breed of dog as a labrabull.
You call it that because you think it is a cute name. NOT it is rather stupid.
As for separation anxiety, well that can occur in any dog not just mutts or mixed breed.

Why do dogs experience separation anxiety?

There are many reasons why dogs may have separation anxiety. While it is true that certain breed of dogs seem to suffer from separation anxiety more than other breeds, (such as labs, border collies, German shepherds, bichon frise, ect.)The reason behind separation anxiety is often because of the way the dog was raised. Puppies that are taken away from their mothers too early are prone to this, as well as those that have changes in family members. (Ie. Dogs that come from shelters are highly prone). Another cause can also be from irregular schedules.

Do dogs suffer separation anxiety when their owner is gone?

Dog breed that can be left for several hours a day?

First, you need to adopt a dog no younger than 6 months of age. A Yorkshire Terrier would be a very poor choice, as they do not tolerate being alone well and often suffer from separation anxiety. Good breeds to consider would be Cardigan Welsh Corgis, Goldadors, and Treeing Walker Coonhounds. These are generally fairly quiet dogs.

What are 5 good beginner dog breeds? (No tiny breeds like Chihuahua or Yorkies.)

1: Labradors - Labs are very tolerant dogs that are easy to train and very friendly. This makes basic training pretty easy and few labs are aggressive over anything, be it food, people or other dogs.2: Golden Retrievers - These easygoing pups are easy to train and tend to be very affectionate and playful, making them well-rounded. They bond close to people and are very friendly.3: Grey Hounds - These dogs are very chill and relaxed. If they have a walk in the morning and a game of fetch or tug in the afternoon, they will be satisfied - this breed loves to run. They are easy to train.4: Brittany - This spaniel is very relaxed and friendly, but doesn’t make a lot of noise about anything. They are easy to cure of behavior problems and get very attached to their family.5: Pugs - (I hope this doesn’t count as ‘tiny’) Pugs are demanding dogs, but they are very affectionate and love to cuddle - what every new dog owner needs! They are easy to train and inexpensive.
