My 15 year old daughter was sent home from school with lice.?

The ONLY safe way to get rid of head lice permanently is to use a totally natural alternative to the chemical shampoos then use prevention methods such as hairspray and tea tree mixed with water in a spray bottle every day to ensure they never return.

Before you listen to anyone advising you to use a pesticide treatment (over the counter shampoo) please consider the following:

No chemical head lice treatment is legally allowed to be labeled as 'safe' as every insecticide is a poison. This may be the cause of the blistering on your daughters head. These treatments are also ineffective as head lice have become immune to them.

Luckily there are quite a few totally natural remedies available that readily kill head lice.

Suffocation is an effective method where oil based products (i.e.: conditioner) are used to block the breathing holes and kill the live lice. The real trick though is to find natural products that will kill both the live lice and their eggs in one fast effective treatment.

Remedies containing Neem Oil are known to be highly effective as Neem interrupts the growth and reproduction of the head louse. Neem’s insecticidal properties are widely recognized now and the oil is commonly available at your local health food store.

Good luck.

My child got hurt at school nobody notified me why?

My daughter had field day today and got kicked in the face. Her nose and upper lip were bleeding. I think her nose is broken but the bigger question is why if she spent time with the nurse who gave her an ice pack and tissues and sent her to sit by herself did noone ever check on her and 2 hrs later she came home after school got dismissed still bleeding wasnt I called about this. Especially since the school is aware that she has problems with her nose and sees an ent reguarly. What protcol is there for notifying the parents in NY. Thank You. I am outraged about this Am I overreacting? I understand the kick was an accident but why didnt they help my daughter?

Should the school send my daughter home with 99.5 temperature?

My 6 year old daughter fell asleep in class today. She was sent to the nurses office, and found out her temperature is at 99.5 and told me we need to pick her up, and cannot send her in the next 2 days either.

We have continually argued with the school over sending her home. Her temperature usually ranges between 98.9~99.4 as is, but since the swine flu scare they refuse to keep her if her temperature is in the 99 range (they've sent her home with a 99.2 temp. for example.) We have gone to the doctor often to see if perhaps she really is ill, despite having no other symptoms. She has had everything from blood tests and allergy tests, x-rays, etc. and she comes up healthy each time, just a slight temperature. The doctor has informed us she is not needed to be sent home unless it is at 100 and up. We have discussed this with the nurse and she will not have it. If the temperature is at 99 and up, the children must come home.

Like I said, my daughter fell asleep in class, found her temperature is at 99.5 and requested her to be sent home. She is home, and has no other symptoms, has an appetite, is energetic, and bummed out she is missing her last days of kindergarten. We checked her temperature a dozen times since she's been home, and her temperature has been at 98.6 since we've gotten her home and settled. We (nor the school) has even given her anything for her 'temperature'. This same scenario has happened more than once now. She has a 99 temperature, we get her home and her temperature is fine and normal, she shows not even one additional symptom, we take her to the doctor to get told the same thing. Here my daughter is fine and happy, healthy, and active and the nurse has told us we are not to send her in the next two days. I know it is the end of the school year, but I do not want to have a repeat of this come next year.

My daughter school is asking parents to mandatorily send their children on school tour outside city. It is asking the parents to sign a declaration that they will not hold school liable in case of any mishap with the child. Should I trust the school?

Out-of-town trips being mandatory is excessive. It would be understandable if parents or chaperones were allowed, but even then nobody can force your child to go.As for the declarations, in my niece's school, they ask parents to sign the same for local trips. However, they are clear that it is a formality only. In this case, not only are the kids being taken out of town, you won’t be there to look after the kid. In such a case, a declaration absolving them of any mishap is somehow not right. They have a higher liability, where the kid is farther from a guardian’s protection. If they plan to take a guardian’s place, maybe they should take more responsibility. In the least, they should specify in which cases they won’t be taking responsibility. And how they are planning to take care of the kids, including details on resources, manpower, accommodation, traveling arrangements etc. And it should be in writing.Nobody can force your kid to go without your permission. You are the guardian/ parent. You have a legal right.

Parents: What is your opinion on dodgeball at school?

Dodgeball is nothing but an accident waiting to happen. I think it's one of the DUMBEST activities and I've yet to understand why schools allow children to play it. What makes them think a bunch of kids throwing balls at each other is a good idea? And of course there's always a few kids who throw the ball really hard on purpose to hurt others. Yeah they get hurt playing football, baseball, soccer etc, but I find that when kids play dodgeball (and I am a teacher in an elem. school and have witnessed this) the gym teachers pay less attention to the students. I've yet to see a teacher sit down with a class and explain the point of the game, the rules etc. They just bring the balls into the gym, and say, "Kids, we're playing dodgeball today!"

If my son was the one who got hurt, I would have had a fit and gone down to the school to speak with the physical education adviser if it wasn't handlded by someone in the school.
Best Wishes =]
