Male perspective…. I'm a guy who after many decades discovered skirts based on a challenge with wife. I was blown away by the discovery of how comfortable, the utility, and looks of short skirts on guys! Men are really missing out on expanding their boring boring clothing options!I have discovered a mini skirt of approximately 10″ to 13″ long provides best mobility. No crotch inseams is a big deal guys but you don't know it. Favorites depend on the occasion. The one I wear most on the ranch is a good ol 5 pocket stretch denim mini skirt about 11.75″ long. Also another favorite is this Cargo Camo Mini skirt with belt loops and many useful pockets. They are cool in summer and non restrictive. Now dislike shorts in any form! Short skirts on guys look less feminine than longer ones.Other times in very cold weather a SKHoop Down filled Mini Skirt keeps core temperature high and one can always change to their long down skirt which is warmer than any thermal pants. See image for both. In Sweden and Alaska worn by men and women.When there is no danger to running (snaging) tights due to work, I do wear Graduated Compression Pantyhose. They really do give more energy all day due to improved blood circulation. Also prevents fly and tick bites. And so much more…PS: Skirts fit men exactly the same as women and men have worn skirts longer throughout time than women. No need for a “man's skirt” when there are thousands of styles already available for women. Some are perfect for guys as is but if you are the typical “Social Conformist” (like sheep) or are sexist, homophonic or insecure you aren't likely to make the discovery…

What's an easy way to add material to a circle skirt to make it longer?

I’m going to guess that there isn’t enough material in the hem to make a false hem.One way is to add the material at the waist - especially if you can find a cloth that’s sympathetic to the original. The problem of adding it to the bottom is a question of weight and drape. However, adding at the waist is often impossible, since you won’t have enough material there to get the right taper. You don’t want this fashion to be snug in the hips, and that’s exactly what would happen when there’s not enough material.Since some skirts are designed with little pleats, this might be pretty simple, depending upon the depth of the pleats.You’d have to add material to the top of panels that taper to the top. Again this much depends upon how the panels are designed. The issue here is that you want a good deal of flair and that the skirt drapes properly - thus, the seams are generally not bigger than need be, in other words 3/8 inch.You may want to make a new waste band.If you can steal an eighth on each seam, and there are four seams, that would get you an inch (2.5 cm) If you have six, then you have 1.5 inches, and that may be enough. Getting some from pleats is even better. That would be enough to lengthen the skirt about 2 inches (5 cm). It depends upon whether the whole thing is going to look good. That’s up to you.One assumes that the skirt fits at the waist. If it’s too big, that’s another plus.A lot depends on the body type it’s going to go on.If you can’t make the pattern work for adding to the top, then you have to add something that’s going to look like trim at the bottom. Depending upon the material of the skirt, it may have to be somewhat lighter in weight than the skirt, so you get the right drape. Depends on what the skirt will be warn for. You do mention medium drape, by which I am guessing you mean not light or heavy weight fabric, but a medium weight fabric. For casual wear, I would choose linen or cotton or a blend of the two. Wool is a good choice….Remember skater skirts? Satin would be good for an evening skirt. Or my favorite, Silk Radiance from Kaufman, which is a silk/cotton blend.A woven will be best because a full circle skirt has the center front on the straight of grain, but the side seams will be on the bias. You will want to give the skirt a little time to hang before hemming as the parts of the skirt on the bias will stretch differently. Hem by measuring from the floor to the desired length. This ensures that the skirt will hang evenly all the way around. Have a friend help you measure the hem as you will have it on as the friend measures the distance from floor to the desired length.Everyone thinks that a skirt can’t be that hard to sew, (and indeed it is a good first garment to sew). But part of the reason it is such a good first garment attempt is because there is so much to learn from just this one project.
