Did Fox News go to court to win the right to lie?
I see this lie posted here almost every day, and I wonder how many who repeat it have ever read the case. The ruling in this case centered around a "whistle-blower" claim brought by two reporters who had been fired by a local Fox Affiliate in Tampa Florida. At the trial level, one reporter lost on all counts. The other (Jane Akre) lost on all issues, with the exception of a claim that the station had violated the whistle-blower statute because it had fired her for threatening to report the station to the FCC for broadcasting what she claimed to be false or misleading information. The station successfully argued that the Florida whistle-blower statute applies only when an employee has threatened to report a violation of a "law, rule or regulation." The Court's ruling was a narrow interpretation of that statute, finding that the FCC adjudicated such matters on a case-by-case basis during licensing procedures and had no formal "rule." Akre argued that these licensing cases constituted a rule for the purposes of the statute, but the Court disagreed. The Tampa station (much less Fox News) never argued that it had "the right to lie" and the Court never reached this issue. Moreover, a number of large media outlets filed briefs in support of the stations position, including Gannet Broadcasting and Post-Newsweek. I find it extraordinarily ironic that the Left twists and distorts this case in an effort to show that Fox News is dishonest. Why don't latinos flush toilet paper?
I have traveled to mexico and have been to a large mexican grocery store and restuarants in Texas and there were cans of soiled T.P. in trash cans in the stalls. My In laws used to bag their T.P. too. My husband just returned from a trip to the Dominican republic and they too don't flush the T.P. I can understand that they may not have good plumbing in their countries but why do they still do it here? If you are a T.P. non flusher of know one who lives in the US, please let them know that it is customary to flush the T.P. here, our plumbing can handle it.
