Are Magnets Bad For A Cell Phone

Is it bad to put a magnet near a cellphone?

i know putting magnets near computers are bad and cellphones can be thought of as mini-computers....i actually have a carrying case which closes with magnets(some use velcro for example); and so it's in near proximitiy to my phone.

Are magnetic cases bad for phones?

The phone itself should be fine. Any memory cards you may purchase for use with the phone may not be, however.

The magnet in use on your case creates such a small magnetic field that it should not be an issue. Again, if you have an SD card in your phone and you place your phone in your case with the SD card side of the phone close to the magnet you may run into an issue. But more than likely not.

Cell phones are mini computers and magnets are bad for computers. Why do many top-rated cell phone holders ask you to attach a magnet to the back of your cell phone?

Here’s a few reasons why these wouldn’t be damaging to your cellphone’s various parts.MemoryOne of the most frequent questions is whether a magnetic car mount would wipe a phone. No, it will not for one simple reason. Internal components of a phone are made out of non-magnetic materials, therefore a magnet cannot disturb their work. But what about the memory, you'd ask? Well, phones do not have HDDs (Hard disk drives) which use magnetic field to store information. On the contrary, phones hold storage chips, which are a type of flash memory, and which are not affected by magnets. There are mentions on forums that iPods can be affected by a magnet. But that concerns only iPod Classic, which use Hard Disk Drives.Other mobile devices use flash memory and should not be worried about.BatteryPhones usually have Lithium-ion batteries. Charging and discharging is a result of a chemical reaction, while materials used for the body are non-magnetic. As a result a battery in a phone remains unaffected. Some users complain that a magnet is a car mount results the battery to discharge faster. The reason is hidden in the usage of the phone while on the mount as most users turn on navigation in car. GPS requires a lot of energy and thus quickly drains the battery.SpeakerPhone speakers use magnets to work, right? Well, according to tests, such small mount as in a car mount is just not strong enough to interfere with their work. So don't be afraid.

My cell phone cover has a magnet in it, will it harm my phone?

In general, no. There have been some improperly designed cell phone covers with magnets that have messed with a wake/sleep function of the phone or tablet, or with the internal compass, but a magnet will not permanently damage the phone. In fact, Motorola’s new Moto Z lineup of phones uses some VERY strong magnets to attach mods. I have a Moto Z Force, and the Incipio style shells offered through Verizon and promoted by Motorola are so strong you can attach your phone to any metal surface (stove, fridge, file cabinet) and it stays put.A magnet strong enough to damage the phone would be ridiculously strong.

Are magnets bad for pregnancy?

A permanent magnet has a static magnetic field, just like the earth's magnetic field. There is no risk to you or the fetus from exposure to permanent magnets. I do not know of any benefit either.
And, check the links below. I hope this will be of help to you.

Can I carry a cell phone and a magnetic money clip?

Yes its fine to carry them together. Magnets only effect disk style drives, not the flash memory that phones and PDAs use. Magnets also have no effect on LCD screens. I included a link to a product that is designed for cell phones with a magnet for reassurance.

*To one of the other posters- Magnets will damage CRT/Tube style screens, but not cell phone screens.

Nextag has hundreds of magnetic holders for cell phones. Would those really be available if they damaged cell phones????

What effect would a magnet have on my smartphone?

In the past, if you wave a magnet around a old-time television, it would mess up the picture. A lot.Nowadays, modern screens and monitors aren’t susceptible to these threats. As for phones, a magnet isn’t going to have a big effect to it. Accidentally sticking a magnet onto your phone won’t cause much, if any damage. In fact, a lot of phones has tiny magnets inside that performs important functions. For example, the Apple Watch uses a magnetic inductive wireless charging system. That was quoted. I have no clue what that thing is besides that it uses magnets and it’s not harmful to the phone. The only thing I can think of that magnets might affect in the phone is the compass. We know how magnets work. There’s a needle and it points to magnetic north or south. But if you stick a magnet against a compass, the needle points towards the magnet. Do that for a bit too long and the compass breaks. It’s the same with phones. You stick a magnet against it for too long, it might mess with the magnetic sensors inside. If that doesn’t happen, it may even turn some metal parts in the phone into weak magnets themselves. That screws up your phone’s compass, too.So, in short. Magnets are unlikely to kill your phone. But if you want to be able to use the map app correctly, don’t stick a magnet onto your phone.

Do magnets affect smartphones?

Depends in what way. There are magnetic cases that are used for unlocking/locking and other various features for your phone. There are also magnetic phone mounts for your car, which are universal and hold your phone in place while you drive so you can have hands-free calling/phone use and in this way, they affect your phone. But if you’re asking if they can be harmful, then no. No they are not harmful to your phone. This used to be a problem for CRT TVs back in the day, where if you placed a magnet near the screen, it would distort the picture and thus it was decided that it was harmful.Technology today is much more advanced, and as such breakthroughs of various proportions were made as well as changes such as the one where Magnets don’t effect screens such as LCDs, LEDs or OLEDs.One of the other frequent questions is whether a magnetic car mount would wipe a phone. No, it will not for one simple reason. Internal components of a phone are made out of non-magnetic materials, therefore a magnet cannot disturb their work. But what about the memory, you'd ask? Well, phones do not have HDDs (Hard disk drives) which use magnetic field to store information. Is it bad to put magnets on or near your computer?

Hard drives used to be affected by magnets pretty easily, but now they're all but immune -- unless you're using an electromagnet that lifts cars or something.

Monitors aren't damaged by magnets, but they can mess with the display. If the magnet is powerful enough you may have to degauss it.

Can a mobile phone get affected by a magnet?

Ever since the electronics became part of every household, we were made to believe that magnets are bad for all things electronic. So, do I have to take care of being away from magnets every time I need to use my phone? The short answer is, if the magnet is big enough and strong enough it could damage your device, and not just by dropping the magnet on it!Let’s see how magnets affect each of mobile phone components:1. Today’s smartphones use LCD screens which are not generally susceptible to magnets – we are safe here;2. When it comes to storage I have to emphasize this: storage chip in modern smartphones such as the iPhone is a ‘flash’ style drive and can’t be wiped by a magnet as there are no magnetic components within the chips;3. The digital compass in a smartphone such as the iPhone acts like a magnetic-needle compass and its accuracy, just like a traditional compass, can be affected by a strong external magnetic field;4. The speaker in your smartphone is like every other speaker, it needs magnets to operate therefore won’t be affected by an external magnetic field.I am pretty sure that your main concern here is whether your cell phone is going to react on a magnetic phone mount, as they are more and more popular. You certainly don’t need to worry about magnet in the mount jeopardizing components of your phone.Speaking of it, here is a spectacular holder you should try – magnetic phone mount by aLLreLi. It’s based on a magnet strong enough to hold your phone without any chance for it to fall down but not as strong to menace any part of the smartphone whatsoever.
