Why do so many people in this country bash welfare?
I live in the state of Washington. It appears from what I have learned is that a person has to be severely ill, single jobless mother taking care of kids because pops has disappeared, or elderly to get assistance. Most times benefits only last 6 months of a persons entire life. Many times people build a stigma around social services so that people would rather starve themselves and their children than go out and get on "welfare". Europe seems to be the one that gives free hand outs. They have a motto that says that a person can work if they want to. No one questions it and they have nice mass transportation systems, better educational systems, and some of those countries are ranked ahead of us on quality of life. Why are so many Americans complaining? How do you cheat the government to get lots of money? The amount of money I have seen from the lists and college classes looks like just enough money to live out on the streets with for food and clothing. Should we defund it some more?
How would raising minimum wage to $15 benefit America's economy?
Basically it would even the playing field and put more money into the economy. When someone makes $15 an hour, they have more opportunity to put that money back into the economy. The biggest section that makes up our GDP is the money put in to purchase goods and services, so by spending $15 an hour on employees, we would see our GDP rise as well due to the sheer fact that more money is being paid for services and more goods are being bought. People believe that having the minimum wage raised would mean that jobs would be lost, but that is false. That extra money would go to buying goods and services, so there would essentially be a higher need for workers because of the higher demand of goods and services. This case study demonstrates this idea: Minimum Wages and Employment: A Case Study of the Fast Food Industry in New Jersey and Pennsylvania Raising the minimum wage to $15 tomorrow would be catastrophic, but doing so over an extended period of time would be extremely beneficial. Many conservative individuals believe less money should be spent on Social Services, so raising the minimum wage would also reduce the amount of money needed for Social Services because more people would have the means to survive. The minimum wage was created to ensure than anyone working 40 hours a week could live at a decent standard and hold a life of dignity. That is impossible now and it does not help when people throw the idea out there that "minimum wage work is for high schoolers only" or that "raising the minimum wage decreases the need for education and advancement." Raising the minimum wage is one way that people who are in poverty can get an education. The minimum wage is now much lower than the standard of living in most areas. MIT put out a 'standard of living' calculator to show minimum wage in each county in the US versus what it actually would take to have a shelter, food, and old/cheap car for transportation. These results are insane because they show how the minimum wage is far too low to meet the standard of living. Take a look and keep researching. I hope this helps!
Should those who are able to work, and refuse the opportunity, should not expect society's support?
For one if I own a business I own that business and my only duties are to follow the law, to myself and my business not to anyone in my business. Greed is what drives society even so-called selfish acts a lot of them at the base are selfish. One who bashes the greedy is an idiot. Now on the other-hand corruption has nothing to do with my question.
Why do neocons hate poor people so much?
Many of the bashers are actually very close to being poor themselves and they are expressing their fear and insecurity by trying to reassure themselves that they are better off than someone else through bashing. It's also part of the current neocon propaganda to bash poor people.
Why do people, especially the poor, hate the rich?
Poor kids didn’t choose to be born poor, or to suffer. It is really an unfortunate situation. Poor people hate rich people because they are everything they wanted to be, not in all cases, but wouldn’t it be nice not to worry about bills. Everything is related to money. Do you want to straighten your crooked teeth? You need money. Do you want to go to a camp of some sort? you need money. Your friends keep inviting, and you really wanna have fun but you don’t go. Why? money.I know it sounds ridiculous, it is kinda stupid that the family doesn’t want to talk to your cousin because he got successful. He is still human being, rich people are human beings, but so are poor people. They get jealous, very humane if you ask me.Now about the comment that they are lazy. I find that very very insulting. There might be some who gave up after they tried very hard and couldn’t find a solution, but some work 2,3 jobs full time, part-time. Poverty is not just being homeless or not having anything to eat. Poverty can also come in other various forms. It could be someone who wears normal clothes like anyone else, has an apartment, like anyone else, but once they are home they see all the bills in the fully working kitchen.I am now writing this with my 6 month old laptop, bought with my scholarship money ( you can’t say that we all have bad grades), in my own bedroom, minutes after I have overheard my parents talking how our bank account now has 500 euro and we have a bill due within two weeks, my orthodontic treatment. And if I fail to pa it on time, I won’t be able (allowed) to step foot at that building. Is it my fault that we can’t pay? Is it my parents? Is it someone else’s?I still don’t know the answer, but poverty is a never circle. Very hard to get out of.I, now, begin to wonder how it feels like not to worry about all the stuff that one has to buy. Food, water, electricity, gas, rent,.. You don’t even have anymore money left to buy luxuries.So the point is, just be grateful if you have money and don’t look down at those who don’t.peace fucking out.
