Are Rotc Students Considered Military Like Academy Cadets/mids Are Do They Have Uniforms

Which is more respected: West Point Cadet or Air Force Academy Cadet?

Service Academy Cadets/Mids are highly respected by almost everyone. Service Academy Commissioned young officers are also generally highly respected by almost everyone and within the military, the expectation is higher for them, so they had better meet and exceed expectations if they wish to keep the respect that being service academy commissioned accrues. Maybe watching these videos will help in deciding whether to more highly respect a woop, zoomie or squid....

Good Luck!

Does an Academy Cadet or Midshipmen outrank an enlisted service member, enlisted recruit, or an ROTC cadet/midshipman?

Yes, but as a technicality. Army Regulation (AR) 600–20 (Army Command Policy) states that command, when absent of the commander, flows in a certain order, and it puts puts cadets after commissioned officers and warrant officers, but before non-commissioned officers. This is the only place I am aware of that states where cadets fall in rank regarding other ranks. That said, I’ve always treated them as junior officers, as they will one day be officers and I feel that me being professional and respectful to them with them will help them gain confidence in the NCO Corps. Finally, Mr. Garvie said they receive the same “respect and privileges” as a (traditional) officer… I respectfully disagree. I have seen cadets, both at West Point and in ROTC programs laid into, quite loudly, by NCO- usually SSG (E-6) and SFC (E-7). That would never happen around other Soldiers in the normal Army. Maybe a Sergeant Major would lay into a new Lieutenant but even that is rarely done in public. But a cadet who made a dumb mistake? Yep, gonna get yelled at by an NCO.

Do ROTC students wear uniforms?

Yes. They wear the uniform of the service they represent. Insignia and awards and decorations are peculiar to ROTC. When a ROTC cadet graduates and is commissioned, he takes his uniforms with him and removes all ROTC insignia.Uniforms are only worn on ROTC class days and during ROTC events, like field training. Outside ROTC, cadets dress just like civilian students.

What do military members do if someone who is currently in a Junior ROTC unit or in an ROTC unit salutes them?

If the service member has any decency, they would simply salute back with a smile. When I was active duty, we had a local high school JROTC come to base and we trained them in different aspects of the Army. I was very respectful of them and did what I could to give them a positive view of military life. Another soldier from another unit treated the kids like shit. Making them do push-ups simply because he enjoyed abusing his position. I was embarrassed by his over-the-top antics.

My daughter is interested in the military. Can she attend M/H.S. in a public school that doesn’t have ROTC, then do the ROTC at a nearby school, or do you have to attend the school with the program?

If she is in middle school or high school, she has the option of Junior ROTC if the school or somewhere nearby offers it. A retired Air Force person will be in charge of it. Your daughter will learn about aerospace, uniforms, physical fitness, military history, marching, and leadership. (I don’t know if there is an Army equivalent, but there probably is.)The Civil Air Patrol is the US Air Force Auxiliary. The Coast Guard also has an auxiliary program. In each of these programs, both adults and students can join. With either of these programs (CAP or JROTC), upon graduation and attaining certain levels of proficiency, she could enlist in the Air Force and graduate from basic training with extra stripes (extra pay! and responsibility). Earning the top award is also a path to getting an appointment at the USAF Academy.ROTC in college is a commissioning program. I was in Air Force ROTC and one of my roommates was an Army ROTC student. Upon graduation, we were commissioned officers as Second Lieutenants in our respective services. (Yes, you can date while you’re in ROTC. You can have a car. You go to classes just like every other college student, but you were a military uniform once or twice a week.) Both my roommate and I had ROTC scholarships. We received all of our tuition plus a monthly living stipend and a book allowance.I was not involved with JROTC, but I was a Deputy Commander for Cadets (adult leader for a CAP cadet group). I didn’t see a lot of behaviors in CAP that were aligned with what I saw on active duty. Many of the kids thought that CAP should look just like the depictions of military personnel in the movies. I’ve seen very little accurate depictions of my time in the Air Force by watching movies and TV.

ROTC uniform in university?

I start ROTC in August and I'll have to wear my ROTC uniform in university for class or when needed.
I'll be proud of wearing it!

But I'm curious as to how people will act around me?! Will they stare? Or ask?
Will men still be attracted to me?

If anyone can share their rotc experience it would be great.

Jrotc makes the military look bad?

They are HS students. How can they ruin the image of the military if they are not in it.?

In a way you are ruining the image of your peers and yourself as well by asking this silly question, right?

You seem so worried about image, how about you create your own image and not worry about others so much.
