Are The Phillipines Still An American Territory

Are the phillipines still an american territory?

No because the Filipino leaders wanted a country run like hell by Filipinos rather than one run like Heaven from Americans. So, they chose independence and the USA gave it to them.
They said they chose it because they could always change the leaders but the only change has been from bad to worse with no sign of improving. Just more and more corruption. More and more political families getting rich at the expense of the population.

Philippines part of America territory?

The Phillipines used to be an American territory. Having got their independence I think they are proud of it. A few years ago they asked the Americans to withdraw their military bases from the Phillipines. At present the country is suffering from years of corrupt misrule that has seen millions of Phillipinos leave to work elsewhere in the world. The money these people send back to the Phillipines keeps it afloat. Right now it might be an idea that they become part of the States, but I think many proud Phillipinos would disagree with you.

US Territory of the Philippines?

Independent Country.

“I prefer a country run like hell by Filipinos to a country run like heaven by Americans. Because, however bad a Filipino government might be, we can always change it.” - President Manuel Luis Quezon, Sr.

Although the vast majority (55%), based on a survey, would prefer that the Philippines would be an American state. (Coincidentally, the Philippines is touted by most Asians as the US's 51st state because of its pro-American population, the wide adoption of American culture, and the widespread usage of English).

Similarly, according to a recent survey, about 50% in Taiwan also would want to belong to the United States - compared to only 25% who would want to be part of China again.

And besides, Americans won't want to have the Philippines as a US territory - at least not with the current financial crisis. Besides, they also fear that with the accession of the Philippines as a state of the Philippines, given the huge population of the country - every election would easily be won by Filipinos - and the US mainlanders are not yet prepared for a Filipino president running the White majority United States.

If the Philippine Islands remained a US territory and became a state, how likely would it be that a Filipino becomes president of the United States given its potentially large number of electoral votes?

Leaving aside the historical improbability of events occuring that resulted in the Philippine Islands joining the US as a single state, I’d have to say it’s likely. Why? The Philippine Islands population in 2016 was about 103 Million. Add that to the roughly 323 Million US population in 2016 yields a total population of roughly 428 Million of which the Philippine Islands would constitute just under 25% of the national population. Now let’s turn to Electoral Votes. There would, in this hypothetical, be 540 Electoral Votes are allocated as follows:3 for the District of Columbia2 for each State - of which there are now 51 states totalling 102 Electoral VotesThe remaining 435 electoral votes are divided among the states proportionally by population counted in the decennial Census.Assuming that the proportions haven’t changed substantially over time, the Philippine Islands would represent 109 Electoral votes (107 apportioned by the Census plus the two every state is granted) out of the 540 total - or 20% of the Electoral Votes.Further assume that the Philippines allocate their electoral votes the way all but two states do (winner take all), the voting bloc represented by the Philippines would be present an almost irresistible reason for Presidential candidates to name a Phillipine to the Vice Presidential spot on their ticket. So I think it highly probable that more than a few Filipino people will have served as Vice President. And once attaining national prominence through the Vice Presidency, or even just being a Vice Presidential candidate of a major party, I think it’s reasonably likely that one of them later becomes President.Note: I’m sorry that I haven’t linked the sources of my population figures. Something strange has been happening this past week with Quora as it is presented in my browser: Every time I try to add a link, the browser tab freezes!

Is America still controling the Philippines in anyway.?

Like last year in 2009 after the Typhoon hit Hilary Clinton came over to Metro Manila and she spoke in front of a University and a lot of people listened to what she said. I herd people say that the Philippines is a puppy dog of America. I just hope the Philippines will wake up and not listen to what America has to say.

Why didn't the Philippines become a US territory like Okinawa?

It did become U.S. territory; Okinawa did not. From 1945 unti 1972, Okinawa was under U.S. military occupation. From 1898 until 1946 the Philippines were U.S. territory (albeit ocuppied by Japan from 1942–1945). In 1935 the Philippines were given commonwealth status and in 1946 were granted independence.

Is Benham Rise an unincorporated territory of the Philippines?

Benham Rise is a fishing ground within Philippine territory that is being pushed by government as an alternative fishing site.

From WIKIPEDIA: The Benham Plateau, also known as the Benham Rise, is a seismically active undersea region and extinct volcanic ridge located in the Philippine Sea approximately 250 km (160 mi) east of the northern coastline of Dinapigue, Isabela.

Under the Philippine Sea lie a number of basins including the West Philippine Basin (WPB), inside of which is located the Central Basin Fault (CBF).[1] The Benham Plateau is located in the CBF and its basement probably represents a micro-continent.[2] Several scientific surveys have been made on the feature to study its nature and its impact on tectonic subduction, including one about its effects on the 1990 Luzon earthquake. The area is claimed, as part of its continental shelf, by the Philippines, which has lodged a claim with the United Nations Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (UNCLCS) on April 8, 2009 and was approved by the UNCLCS on 2012.[3]

Read about it as a FISHING GROUND:

Mayuga / Reporter THE Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) on Thursday criticized Malacañang for naming the 13-million-hectare Benham Rise as an alternative fishing ground for Filipino fishermen. “First and foremost, it is not new and it cannot even be considered an alternative fishing ground.

Only commercial fishers can exploit Benham Rise – Manila Standard Today
May 30th, 2013

The government said Thursday only commercial fishers, not small fishermen, will be allowed to fish in Benham Rise, even as a fishermen’s group said the government’s offer to them to fish in the area off Aurora province was the biggest mockery in the fisheries sector. “Yes, outrigger fishing boats can’t go to the sea of Benham,” said Asis de Perez, director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources. “Only commercial fishing vessels are allowed.” But the group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas slammed the government’s offer made on Tuesday.

The Philippine Islands became a Spanish colony during the 16th century; they were ceded to the US in 1898 following the Spanish-American War. In 1935 the Philippines became a self-governing commonwealth. Manuel QUEZON was elected President and was tasked with preparing the country for independence after a 10-year transition. In 1942 the islands fell under Japanese occupation during WWII, and US forces and Filipinos fought together during 1944-45 to regain control. On 4 July 1946 the Philippines attained their independence. The 20-year rule of Ferdinand MARCOS ended in 1986, when a widespread popular rebellion forced him into exile and installed Corazon AQUINO as president. Her presidency was hampered by several coup attempts, which prevented a return to full political stability and economic development. Fidel RAMOS was elected president in 1992 and his administration was marked by greater stability and progress on economic reforms. In 1992, the US closed its last military bases on the islands. Joseph ESTRADA was elected president in 1998, but was succeeded by his vice-president, Gloria MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, in January 2001 after ESTRADA's stormy impeachment trial on corruption charges broke down and widespread demonstrations led to his ouster. MACAPAGAL-ARROYO was elected to a six-year term in May 2004. The Philippine Government faces threats from armed communist insurgencies and from Muslim separatists in the south.

Why didn't the United States keep the Philippines as a territory, like Guam?

The United States fought a very ugly colonial war with the Philippines after reneging on its agreement to free the country in the wake of the Spanish-American War. Even after the uprising had been suppressed, it was clear that if the US planned on remaining in charge of the islands it was going to cost a great deal of money and require a large military force. The United States was unwilling to take on such an effort, especially with the large non-White population of the islands (with at least 20-25 million people, the population was 1/7 of that of the TOTAL United States at that time) and made an agreement to allow the nation to gain independence in 1946. Despite Japan’s occupation of the island during WWII and the United fighting to liberate them, the United States kept its word and the Philippines became an independent nation less than one year after the end of the conflict.Guam, on the other hand, is a small island (30 miles by 12 miles wide) whose population has always been relatively tiny. The United States had established a naval anchorage there during WWI and has maintained military facilities since that time with the exception of its occupation by the Empire of Japan during WWII. Guam’s population is too small and it lacks the necessary resources to be an independent nation. While there has been a Chamorro independence movement (the native people of Guam) it has always been tiny and it never has received much public support. Most Guamanians are either happy or resigned to being US citizens and receiving the benefits that entails. There hasn’t been a serious effort for Guamanian sovereignty in many years.
