How much pleasure is OK for a Buddhist to enjoy, if life is essentially suffering?

Thank you A.C. for the A2A![Caveat: I do not consider myself a Buddhist, but I do harbor tremendous admiration for many secular Buddhist teachings and try to incorporate them into my approach to life]In my personal life what I’ve found is that in my best, most aware moments I can sometimes realize that both pleasure and suffering are merely two faces of the exact same experiential coin. There was a time in my life when I chased the entire gamut of sensual pleasures — gourmet foods, intoxicating liqueurs, fashionable clothes, fast cars, shiny gadgets and pure unadulterated* SEX — like a starving hyena, glutting myself over and over again in orgies** of delightful experiences. Back then I used to jokingly say “I spent half of my money on cheap booze and loose women — and the other half I just wasted!”And like everyone else, I assiduously avoided the things I considered “suffering” despite the fact that they taught me at least as much about myself as any pleasurable experience, and probably much more.If for some strange reason you want to take my advice as a non-Enlightened, un-Awakened human being, it would be to not chase either pleasure or suffering but to fully embrace whatever comes to you every moment of the day and try to understand the lesson it is trying to teach you.Not to drag Andrew Weill into this somewhat tawdry and sordid answer, but I think he really nailed it with his advice in What is the best way to create the best moments of life? … just being mindful of whatever actually is, without trying to shape it into one thing or the other. And I do have to include another amazing nugget of wisdom that talks to this issue more clearly and elegantly than I ever could:“Not even if it rained gold coins would we have our fill of sensual pleasures. 'Stressful, they give little enjoyment'-- knowing this, the wise one finds no delight even in heavenly sensual pleasures. He is one who delights in the ending of craving,”- Dhammapada, 14, translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu.*Okay, sometimes unadulterated, sometimes adulterated, and occasionally involving adultery.**Sometimes literal, sometimes figurative.

I'm doing a speech and I need to know all I can about child abuse. So can anyone help me with this topic?

What type of abuse / certain kinds / all kinds...I could give you some specifics about what I know...but abuse is abuse...whether it's mental / physical / emotional / bullying...whatever the case maybe...

you can get a lot of info off the internet...or try calling a placement agency that deals with kids this has happened to and see if a case worker / councelor can speak with you. They can't give you specific cases, but can help in answering some of your questions.
