What's your favorite female rock/metal vocalist, and from which band is she?
@killer peaches: I actually like Evanescence (/guilty pleasure) and she does have a great voice (especially her older stuff, like Solitude, Understanding, that's when her voice was most emotional and beautiful; newer stuff includes Hello, The Only One, Your Star...) but I don't think she's that great live. She's out of breath quite easily (I watched on youtube their Anywhere But Home tour). As for Tarja, meh, too operatic for me (or dare I say it pretentious?). I like the old Nightwish for the feel-goodness of the instruments, not really for Tarja's voice to be honest, although it doesn't sound too operatic/overdramatic on Century Child and Once. I simply enjoy Anette better than Tarja, although she's not very good live either. I agree that Sharon's voice is pretty frail, but in my opinion it complements some of their music quite well (I only like WT for the ballads). New Sirenia just plainly sucks.
