What's your favorite song with the word "road" in it?
Ghost Rider by RushThe lyrics are penned, as all of their lyrics are, by drummer Neil Peart. On August 10, 1997, his 19 year old daughter was killed in a car accident. Just 10 months later his wife died of cancer. After several weeks of sitting home and trying to figure out which direction his life, career and even his sanity was going to go he got on his BMW motorcycle and left Toronto, Canada. He drove across Canada on mostly back roads and up into Alaska stopping at small towns along the way to maintain privacy and anonymity. He then headed down through the Western half of the United States and into Mexico while all during the trip sending post cards to friends and family to let them know he was ok. He then headed back up through the US and returned home to Canada, a trip that saw him ride 55,000 miles in a matter of weeks. It was the only way he knew of that would help clear his mind and find some way to see normalcy again.He wrote a book about his trip called Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road and the songs on Rush's next album, Vapor Trails, centered heavily around a lot of what he went through during that trip.
