Most professors love it when they are contacted by a potential research candidate who has spent time finding out the research work done by them, has read their papers and evinced interest in those areas.However, your CV demonstrates how you have performed in your previous academic degrees, work experience (if any), standardized test scores, previous projects etc. All this helps a supervisor in assessing the ability and the capability of a potential research student. Sometimes, a CV may not be that impressive. However, if the reasons are reasonable for some of the “less impressive” aspects and the recommendation letters are strong, a candidate can still be considered. It is not at every university that every professor is involved in the graduate admissions committee or has a complete say over which candidate is accepted. Places where the committee decides who is accepted and who is not, it is the complete application material (CV, references, proposed research work, published research papers, awards and honors, work experience etc.) that is taken into consideration. Of course, even in those cases, your application form will most likely have a section asking you to identify potential supervisors and it may be helpful to contact them in advance. I frequently have what appears to be vivid dreams, sometimes consisting of evil entities trying to communicate with me in my sleep, only for me to awaken but unable to move, speak, scream for help, etc. until finally i break lose only to be so exhausted i fall back asleep only to do it again. Sometimes they appear to be attractive women who try to seduce me but i always notice the women arent what they appear to be. Last time it happened for instance, the attractive woman i noticed her hands started wrinkling and turned purplish-black, almost like a witch's hands. I became frightened and snapped awake, but was unable to move momentarily and felt like something had it hand covering my mouth so i couldnt scream.
