Are There As Many Hermaphrodites Among Humans Are There Are Among Turtles

What is a hermaphrodite human?

It’s an offensive term used to describe some transgender and intersex, appropriate oness would be androgyne, bigender and others.Strictly a Biology term for an organism which has both sets of genitals, earthworms and snails e.g. There has been cases of intersex that both sets of apparatus but no case found with them functional enough to act as both parents. Same goes for transgender, some of which can be intersex (separate category than trans).Hence, as it’s inaccurate (as well as a slur), should never be used to refer people by. Best to (politely) ask the person involved how they prefer to be referred as.

Can humans be natural hermaphrodites?

Theoretically, yes.Practically, my own situation comes pretty close: I was born with ovaries, testicles, a penis and vagina; just missing the uterus, really. The testicles also didn’t develop fully and my ovaries likely do not produce eggs (unproven as of yet).If I can come this close to being a natural hermaphrodite, then it is imaginable that with a bit more luck and/or evolution, humans can be proper natural hermaphrodites as well.

Has there ever been a human hermaphrodite?

A Nigerian man with both male and female sex organs, has cried out over his medical condition that has left him recluse and unable to socialise or have a relationship.Have you ever seen an hermaphrodite? Am sure you heard that some people have both male and female organs…. Well it’s true29-year-old Oluwaseun Samuel Fajilade, an indegene of Ekiti State is a hermaphrodite who sees himself as a man. He desperately wants to undergo surgery to remove his female breasts and vagina, and keep only his male organ because he doesn’t menstruate.. He doesn’t want to be woman he wants his female organs removedBorn on 16 March 1987 as a male, Fajilade realised that breasts began forming around his chest when he was between 12 and 15 years old.He called out out to Simon Ateba with his story in a bid to seek financial from the public to pay for his surgical operation.A hermaphrodite in Nigeria See pictures http://truenaijayarn.com/shockin...Source:Www.truenaijayarn.com

Are hermaphrodites real?

If you are referring to humans, yes. Although, that term is no longer used. The technical term is intersexed. Something approaching 6 million people in the US alone, are born with some combination of sexual organs. That number is equal to the entire population of the state of Indiana. All fetuses begin as females. Hormones, and genetics will cause this embryo to develop as a male. The clitoris expands and lengthens to become a penis. The ovaries drop and become testes. The transformative list goes on.Sometimes, a fetus is caught somewhere in the middle of this change, neither fully female nor fully male. Chromosomes can be muddled as well. XX & XY are the standard female and male chromosomal designations. Some intersexed babies are born XXY or XYY. They have a vaginal opening, and a penis. An intersexed person often has both testicular, AND ovarian tissue. The combinations abound.Often, this lack of full transition is dangerous to the health of the child. Much like a cleft pallet, where the mouth does not fully close, the groin can remain open and unformed as well. There is much with current medical procedures that can be done to reconstruct, or designate a gender. In the past, the doctors would decide for the child and parents, and act on their own discretion. This is no longer the norm. Now, unless it is life threatening, the child is left to develop on their own, and decide for themselves what their gender is, before it is permanently assigned through surgery.Modern intersexed individuals now often choose to never assign themselves a gender. Nature did not choose one, so why should social pressure do so? The question I always ask those that are homophobic is, who should someone born as both male and female be allowed to love and marry? When a Person Is Neither XX nor XY: A Q&A with Geneticist Eric VilainIntersex: MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia

Are terrapins hermaphrodite?

No, terrapins have both males and females as different genders.
...excepting for rare mutations of course, just like in humans

Edit:
Just like chickens, reptiles can very easily lay eggs without ever having come in contact with a male.
Obviously (with most species, terrapins included) the eggs will not be fertile :)

If you sleep with a hermaphidite does that make you gay ? o.O?

no. If your a man and you sleep with another man that does not make you gay either.

to be homosexual that would mean that you are exclusively or almost exclusively attracted to the same sex. If someone had both a penis and a vagina and were essentially true hermaphrodites(impossible for a human- IAW pumpkins post), physically speaking and not taking into account their view of their gender because we could be here all day in that case, then you would not be gay for sleeping with them. That is because their genetalia is radically different from your own and they are exactly half male and half female.

If you were extremely attracted to them and slept with them, key words being attracted to, then you would probably be considered pansexual.

A pansexual is someone who is attracted to others that fall outside the gender binary.

But yeah, again, there has never been a true human hermaphrodite and only animals like worms etc are hermaphrodites, so if this is not a 'what if hermaphrodite humans existed' question then the word you are looking for is intersex.

Can hermaphrodites reproduce ?

Yes ...earthworms, snail, leeches, and many trees (trees that have both
sexes are called monoecious (one house). It is a way of a species hedging
its bets that it will meet a mate.

Hermaphrodites usually contain both sex organs. They can fertilize their own
eggs but this is not a satisfactory solution for the long term because this
creates offspring genetically identical to the parent. This will not do in
case the environment changes down the road and none of the members of the
population can survive the change. There must be some way of creating
variation. Hermaphrodites can also usually mate with other members of its
species by exchanging sperm with them. They then use the sperm to fertilize

Regarding being a male and female, one hypothesis says that presence of Y chromosome means the person has the SRY gene-a male specific gene that codes for testis determining factor. If the Y chromosome -thus SRY- is present male development pathway occurs and if absent (XX)then female charecteristics emerge
their eggs and this produces the necessary genetic variation.

Do human hermaphrodites exist (I'm aware of intersex people)?

Yes, the medical term is 'true hermaphrodite’, and it's a rare form of intersex, usually in the form of a chimeric condition (XX and XY cell lines).Among hermaphrodites there are many different forms as well. My own case is quite unique in that I didn't have ovotestes, but both ovaries and testicles.

What is the difference between hermaphrodite organisms and ...?

it's very case-dependent
even for non-hermaphrodites, sometimes there is not any thing as sex chromosome (turtles, crocodiles that sex determination is environment-dependent)
Some like nematode C. elegans have female and hermaphrodite in a sex-chromosome dependent manner. since most of only-hermaphrodite animals are invertebrates and especially different worms of different clades, sex chromosome is not defined for most of them. for some all the organisms have both sexes and both can act as mother and father in giving sperm and receiving sperms.

What are the similarities and differences between humans and animals repoductive system?

generally mammals (us, and land animals) are gender based. so you have a male and female where the female has eggs and male has sperm (similarity). the size of the egg and sperm differs in each species along with the number of chromosomes (difference).

birds lay eggs (difference). humans give birth.

in a lot of...aquatic animals, fertilization is outside of the body like fish laying eggs and then the male fish putting sperm on those eggs or look up the angler fish reproduction and see how different that is from us.

crocodiles gender is detrmined after birth and is based on temperature, i think the same holds true for turtles (look that up), where as human reproduction the gender is determined on chromosomes.

some animals are hermaphrodites (both male and female part on 1) in some animals the male carried the baby to term (like sea horses)

if you are thinking in terms of the actual system like the physiology of the animals then you will have to look it up to see how different animals have different reproductive organs for example ducks have a very...unique penis (its actually quite gross) and the female ducks have mechanisms to avoid pregnancy...like they have a pseudo vagina (thats the best way i can describe it simply). also physiologically speaking in many animals the female is much larger then the male, unlike humans where generally the females are smaller then males.

as for crustaceans...i am not really sure how that works
