Are These Properties Chemical Or Physical 8th Grade

What are the chemical properties of metals & non-metals?

Chemical Property of Metals:Usually have 1-3 electrons in their outer shell. Lose their valence electrons easily.Form oxides that are basic. Are good reducing agents.Have lower electronegativities.Chemical Property of Non Metals: Usually have 4-8 electrons in their outer shell. Gain or share valence electrons easily.Form oxides that are acidic. Are good oxidizing agents.Have higher electronegativities.

Please help me? 8th grade multiple choice? Chemical Changes?

Leaves change color mostly through a chemical change. Physically, the color changes as a result of the chemical change. The best answer is probably "chemical".

Water evaporating is not a chemical change. The water molecules are still water after they evaporate, so they have not changed as chemicals. This is clearly a physical change.

Odors are chemical changes, but again the question is vague. A phase change can involve a liquid becoming a gas and odors are gasses. Like water, evaporating perfume is a physical change. Again, my guess is "chemical" is the best answer.

Chemical changes always involve the breaking of bonds, so this is definetly the definition of a chemical change. I have no idea what "ionic" or "covalent" changes are. These are totally academic terms whose meaning only exists in some textbook. I have never heard them used during the 25 years I've worked as a chemist.

BTW: It's obvious why you are having difficulty with this homework. It is badly taught science. Most of the questions have more than 1 correct answer, but only the instructor knows the correct one. Students should not have to read their instructor's minds.

Physical Science Question?

A science class is studying physical and chemical changes.

The teacher puts a beaker of water onto a hot plate and heats it until bubbles appear.

a. Classify this as a physical or chemical change. Explain your reasoning using specific details.

The teacher puts a sugar cube into a container of warm water. Eventually the sugar cube is no longer visible.

b. Classify this as a physical or chemical change. Explain your reasoning using specific details.

The teacher pours vinegar into a small container of baking soda. The combined substances begin to fizz and bubble as a gas is released.

c. Classify this as a physical or chemical change. Explain your reasoning using specific detains

Even just knowing if it's a physical or chemical change can help...but explaining could get you best answer!

Is sodium bicarbonate mixed with hydrochloric acid a physical or chemical change?

It will produce CO2 and make it a chemical change.

Physical science question?

If the object is made entirely of one substance, then the only properties the object has that are not properties of the substance are size and shape. Any chemical or physical test you do on a small sample taken from the object is a test on the substance, since the sample you removed is no longer part of the object.

Physical Science, need help with one question, please.?

Neon is a noble gas and is therefore very stable, taking part in very few chemical reactions. This is due to its stable, full 8-electron structure on its outer shell.

Lithium has a lone electron on its outer shell, which is repelled by the inner electrons and is therefore prone to leaving the atom to form an Li+ ion, which takes part in many reactions. eg: Lithium reacts with oxygen to form Lithium (II) oxide.

Not sure about the determining part. Sorry :S
