Are These Weird Hobbies

Do you guys know of any weird hobbies?

How about taxidermy (from the Merriam-Webster's dictionary): http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionar...

With me, I just enjoy collecting my wall (and pocket) calenders from year to year. Regarding someone enjoying smelling books, perhaps they like the yucky, musty odor. It is most likely not healthy to say the least.

Just fyi for anyone to please not inhale any types of fumes or chemical vapors also known as "huffing". For more information about the dangers of huffing - National Inhalant Prevention Coalition: http://www.inhalants.org

What are some weird hobbies that people have?

I do have a weird hobby. I collect unclaimed money found on streets! It started in a strange way too. Early in the last year, I was waiting at an empty bus-stop to catch the last bus to my home. Suddenly, with a swish of wind, something flew and fell near my feet. I noticed that it was a one dollar bill! Finding nobody around to claim it, it placed my claim on it. While returning home, I wondered how much money can one collect in this way? I had occasionally seen unclaimed coins lying on streets and homeless people going after them. Not finding any reasonable estimate from internet searches, I decided to find it myself.Since then, I started collecting any unclaimed money I found on my way. In one year, my collection looks like this:This includes 7 US $1 bills, 25 quarters, 28 dimes, 19 nickels and 91 pennies. All these adds up to $17.91. In addition, I also found one of 10 Euro cent, 5 GBP pence, 1 peso (Mexico) and 50 won (South Korea) coin. This is definitely not a lot of money as such, considering that they were collected over a year. However, these were collected mostly from around the area where I live (La Jolla, CA), which is not a very densely populated area. Also, these were collected very passively and without any special effort - just whatever I found on my path. But, if you do a bit of math, there's probably thousands of dollars literally scattered and flying around on the streets. As of 2015, more than 702 million people live on less than $1.90 (International Poverty Line) a day.  This also reminds me of how much money go wasted everyday. Isn't this symbolic of that too?Note: I do have 'real' hobbies like singing, playing instruments, cooking, hiking, 'bird-watching' and 'fishing'  too! Edit: Thank you Koustuv Sinha for sharing this video: This aptly explains a part of the observation!

What hobby gets weird with age?

Doll collecting, I am so sorry to all the people who doll collect. I don’t mean to judge… It is just really kind of creepy when a adult has a rather large collection of dolls. Especially Victorian Mourning Dolls.During the period from the mid to late nineteenth century until the early 20th century, popularly known as the "Victorian Era," people typically used elaborate physical representations and rituals to mark the death of a loved one. Because deaths typically took place in the home, the body of the deceased was usually prepared for burial, and often displayed for a period in the home.Because of the close proximity of death to the home, and because of high mortality rates for children and infants, children especially were often familiar with and exposed to death and dead bodies from a very early age. By the late nineteenth century, it became customary to commission a "mourning doll" to lay at the grave of a deceased child. These became widely popular as a coping mechanism for families dealing with the death of a child. My husband is a carpenter. He did rehab in a lot of old houses. This one fella had three rooms full of Dolls and many of them were mourning dolls. He hated going to that house.Creeped out yet? I know I am!
