Are Us Conservatives More Of A Laughing Stock At Home Or Abroad

What do non-Americans think of Obama's performance as president so far?

I am from Nepal, a fictitious wonderland, where everything is wonderful (or so is the image of the many Americans who I have met and actually have heard of Nepal, outside SF). While Obama doesn't have much to do with my insignificant country, he is still viewed as a very positive force as the leader of the most powerful country. His Nobel peace prize definitely helps make his case stronger, since people do trust the board that makes such decisions with a high degree of respect. He has done a lot to repair & build relationships with most countries across the world, while Bush seemed to be playing a lot of games. He seems to understand the value of encouraging immigration, and seems to be significantly more culturally knowledgeable than Bush. This video is a good example of what I am saying:For people who do follow American politics closely think that Obama is not getting a chance to do what he wants. If you don't something a chance, it cannot succeed (obviously!). People look up to the American politicians because of their high level of education, and low corruption, and partisan games like those being played right now, say as much about the opposition's intention of getting more votes, as a President's ineffectiveness to convince people to do what he wants.Suffering from ridiculously unstable government, and extremely different ideologies between parties, we don't love politics, and we do understand the motives behind people's actions. Obama's laws are almost always backed up by a good understanding of economics and by a regard for the other parties' needs.

How do we make America great again?

First of all, get rid of the old farts and stuffed shirts that have been in congress since the 1960's, and elect some new blood.
The status quo is killing us.

Second, we need a few more main stream political parties.
The two-party system just doesn't work anymore.

Is it true that President Trump is more popular than Prime Minister Trudeau?

It depends on where you are asking about! In Canada, Trudeau has detractors and supporters. But nowhere near the vitriolic divisiveness that there is in the US with Trump, or the evident common distaste for Trump.By all accounts, Trump seen from abroad, is considered a clown or laughing stock. Internationally, from all I read and hear, Trump is considered to be the skunk at the garden party, but Trudeau , for the most part, is well liked ( except for our current kerfluffle with China!)That's this Canadian's opinion, but it is reinforced daily in conversations with friends, family and acquaintances! I would add too, that our opinion of Trump becomes more deeply negative, as time passes and his apparently corrupt administration continues!

How does the rest of the world view President Obama? According to some conservatives here in the U.S., Obama has made the U.S. a laughing stock around the world. Is this true?

Some conservative think the world was created a few thousand years ago. Some conservatives think a girl should pledge her chastity to her father (how creepy is that). Some conservatives think it's OK to murder staff in abortion clinics because killing is wrong (go figure). Some conservatives think gay marriage will undermine straight marriage - one in three first marriages end in divorce and 1 in 2 second marriages. Can't see the gays making that a whole lot worse. So when they tell you Obama made the USA a laughing stock you have to understand they are at the worst lying through their teeth and at the best totally delusional. Obviously I can't speak for everyone but I've travelled extensively and he is very well loved almost everywhere. He's intelligent, articulate, scandal free (and believe me they've looked). He has a great family and fun dogs. What is there not to like? Oh yes that terrible, evil defect. The vile black thing! How dare he be on the world stage with all that 'dark' colour on show? Most European countries have left a trail of crumbs hoping he'll venture our way.Now if we are going to get down to which US President has made the country the biggest laughing stock on the world stage...

Do some liberals really hate Trump or are they just sore losers?

I am a liberal. I loathe Trump. But here’s the thing: it’s not just out of pique. I loathe Trump because of what he represents: the values he has espoused since his campaign announcement, his incoherence, his willingness to render fact irrelevant (or posit “alternative facts”), his bigotry, the fiscal policies he will embrace, the executive actions he is taking right now, the people he’s appointing to cabinet posts and the likely effect of those people’s leadership on the institutions over which they will preside. . . and so on.I loathe Trump, and did not want him elected, because he shows every sign of being a larval autocrat, and because he is beyond question an embarrassment to any dignified American. The world sees us now with a president who tweets nasty remarks about Hollywood actresses — and blabbers publicly, on TV, about how we should have stolen foreign oil when we had a chance, and how maybe we’ll get another shot at it. These ideas are hateful; these performances are mortifying.I boldfaced that paragraph in hopes of driving home a distinction about which some Trump supporters seem totally blinkered. Trump is not “man without qualities,” some tabula rasa upon which liberals (and plenty of Republicans) are scribbling slanders and paranoid fantasies. Trump has said unconscionable things; he has debased American discourse and tarnished our image; he is wildly unpopular at home and abroad; and he is already setting in motion policies that are, frankly, terrifying. He’s special. We thought Cowboy W. was bad, but this? This is totally insupportable. This man is a threat to national security, to our military, and to the hard-won rights of every minority in this country. He is a threat to the citizenry’s voting rights and to the environment (he has issued a gag order to quash the EPA). He’s a bad, bad man. He deserves our contempt. And I have a hard time holding back the contempt I feel for anyone who could vote for this colossal betrayal of the American ideal.

How do liberals feel about President Trump's overwhelming success in achieving policy goals at the recent NATO summit?

Nice try, Markus Young, so-called. You’re a Russian troll asking a Russian troll’s question. As a side note directed to legitimate Quora readers, infiltration of the trolls and these type of troll questions will ruin Quora. For that reason, I’ll willingly risk censure from the Quora BNBR Policy over-seers to call-out the so-called Markus Young.Markus Young: you are an enemy of the United States, with a clearly implied interest of weakening NATO. You are part of the dying last-gasp of a once ambitious nation supported by petro-dollars when the world is moving whole-sale in the other direction. So, let’s get this out of the way early, shall we?KINDLY FUCK OFF, MARKUS YOUNG.How much is Putin paying you to be here?Yes, you can make things worse for us, but you can’t beat us.Rather than being Putin’s little lackey-bitch, why not learn a skill that will pay in the real world where you don’t have to sit in front of a computer screen in your momma’s dark basement trolling the internet, body stench in your nose, watching bad porn, and masturbating into a wad of kleenex? When the connections are found between Putin and his American bitch, trump, that orange traitor will be in jail.Spying, theft of secrets, and espionage has never worked for Russia despite the fact that Russia is good at it.Your country is turning into a backwater before your eyes.Meanwhile, if it is your intention to troll the internet to undermine the United States:WE’RE ON TO YOU MARKUS YOUNG: FUCK OFF.

How does the rest of the world view President Donald Trump? According to most of the people I know of in the U.S., Trump has made the U.S. a laughing stock around the world. Is this true?

It's all Politics. Most of the people you know are obviously Democrats. Spread yourself out and talk with some other people outside the echo chamber and find out what the rest of the people in your country think. Republicans said the same thing about Obama and his 'Apology tour'. I do not believe either is true. We are a world Superpower. We are hated by some, but never laughed at. Trump, hate him or not, has said that the U.S. needs to renegotiate some deals that were not done well. He has said that we will do so with a U.S. first attitude. That is certainly not something to laugh at. If a leader thinks his country is one that had taken advantage of the U.S. previously, that leader might be concerned...but not laughing. If you are a U.S. ally then you probably are more aware today than previously that the U.S. has your back. Kim Jong Un is not laughing. China is not laughing. Iran is not laughing. The Climate accord people are not laughing. Is Mexico laughing? Probably not...several production plants that had been scheduled to be built there changed their minds and stayed here.Maybe this would be easier if your friends actually told us what was so funny and who it was that thinks it humorous?
