How can you explain the first, second, and third laws of Thermodynamics to someone who's never heard of it before?

I’m trying to answer this question with explanations for the 3 laws with a biscuit.1st Law: Energy is conserved. It can’t be created or destroyed but can be transformed from one form to another.Consider a biscuit and a cup of tea. Now when you break the biscuit into 2 pieces, you have the two broken pieces in your hand(to have with tea) and some powder biscuit that fell on the floor. Altogether, we have the same content of biscuit here, but the two broken pieces can be dipped in tea and eaten while the powder can’t be. Thus, it can be concluded that after breaking of biscuit, the resulting products are still biscuit but in different forms i.e bits and powder.2nd Law: The second law of thermodynamic states that the entropy of any isolated system always increases.( Entropy means a thermodynamic property that is the measure of a system's thermal energy per unit of temperature that is unavailable for doing useful work)Let us consider from the above example, whole biscuit bits, biscuit powder and tea cup as the isolated system. Consider the biscuit powder as entropy (unavailable to use). Now when you break the biscuit bits into more smaller bits, more biscuit powder is created which goes on increasing as we break the bits. Thus it can be concluded that the unavailability of biscuit increases in this isolated system,3rd Law: The third law of thermodynamics states that the entropy of a system approaches a constant value as the temperature approaches absolute zero.Absolute zero is the point at which the fundamental particles of nature have minimal vibrational motion. As the motion is minimum, the randomness will be zero. As a result, the entropy will attain a constant value.I hope my explanation with the simplest example helps you.Suggestions/corrections are always welcome.Thank you.

What are first world, second world and third world countries?

These terms have become antiquated and their definitions serve little or almost no purpose as of now. These ‘worlds' were conceptualized to refer to the geopolitical blocs formed from the cold war post WW2.Countries in red represent First World, greeb for Second World and Blue for the Third World .First-world countries were those countries which adhered to the capitalist-democratic ideology. United States of America, United Kingdom, Canada, South Korea and most of Western European countries were first-world nations.The communist sphere of USSR (United Soviet Socialist Republic) made up the second world. They were proponents of communism-socialism. Contemporary Russia, Cuba, China and rest of the states formed fromthe collapse of Soviet Union, such as Kazakhsthan, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia all are second-world countries.Countries which refused to side to any of these blocs were the third world countries. The Group of 77 was formed by these nations called Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). This includes Brazil, Mexico, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Sweden and many others.After the collapse of Soviet Union in 1991, use of these terms have become redundant. Nowadays, developed countries are usually called first-world countries, which are industrially advanced, democratic with high HDI. The developing nations are usually referred to as Third World Countries, which are poor, economically underdeveloped with low HDI.

What is the difference between talking in the first, second and third person?

I am writing in the first person. My point of view rules the answer I give you.You're answering on Quora, taking at least two tries to come up with a proper example of the second person. You're human. You make mistakes. You admit them, and try your best to correct them. Top Writer, indeed. Be more careful.Over there a skilled author writes in the third person, with some distance, describing the action, and making no mistakes.Answer edited to make it more correct, thanks to a helpful comment.

Is Puerto Rico a first, second, or third world country?

That depends on the definition you use for first, second, or third world country:

Definition A: Politically/economically speaking: The term Third World arose during the Cold War to define countries that remained non-aligned with either capitalism and NATO (which along with its allies represented the First World), or communism and the Soviet Union (which along with its allies represented the Second World).

Answer A: Puerto Rico is allied with USA / capitalism, therefore it is within the First World.
====
Definition B: Stereotypically speaking: Due to many of the Third World countries being extremely poor, it became a stereotype such that people commonly refer to undeveloped countries as "third world countries," often used in a pejorative way.

Answer B: Puerto Rico is not "extremely poor" if you analyze the complete list of the countries at the world and their economic indicators vs Puerto Rico. We are not as "rich" or developed as the G-7 or G-8 countries, but that does not mean we are "extremely poor", definitively not a 3rd world country. Depending where you draw the line between "1st world" or "2nd world" Puerto rico will be part of one of those.

I'm thinking about vacationing there and want to know whether it's safe and etc.
* We got crime as in every major place or city in the USA. If you do not do something stupid like wandering alone in a dark street late in the night, or deal with drugs your vacation trip in Puerto Rico will be safe and enjoyable.
