A question about white privilege...?
I get so tired of hearing about "white privilege". Let's assume, for a moment, that statistics are completely accurate and can be trusted... "White" people in this country still make up an overwhelming majority of the population. Most people will agree on this. However... "White" people also comprise the majority of poor people in this country. While it's true that "white" people being in the majority increases the chances of there being a greater number of poor "white" people, it's also true that "white privilege" would greatly decrease these chances if it did indeed still exist. If "white" people have such grand opportunity then why do so few of them hold most of the wealth? Answer- This grand opportunity isn't "race" based. Of course, I don't trust statistics. But so many others do. EDIT: Yes, I do understand. I understand that you just gave a perfect example of why I don't trust statistics. That being that they can be re-packaged to give a particular impression. Whether talking actual numbers, percentages, or whatever, the result is the same. And the fact remains that there wouldn't be so many impoverished "white" people in this country if "white privilege" still existed. "White" people would make sure of it. Y'all can thumbs down my answer 'til cows fly, but it won't change the fact that so-called "white" people don't have any more opportunity than you do. Care to prove otherwise other than giving poo poo statistics or boo hoo stories of your own limited experiences? I THOUGHT NOT ! SO, THEN, HOW ABOUT THIS-- PUT UP OR SHUT UP???? YEA, THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT!
Can someone explain "white privilege" to me?
A couple days ago, I was talking to someone who claimed that I have "white privilege", just because of the color of my skin. I don't really understand where "the privilege" is involved. I mean, I'm not rich. I've never been given any special advantages over anyone else. I'm pretty much broke. I'm constantly struggling to find a good job. So what exactly is the privilege?
Are white people aware of "white privilege" How do they feel about it? Do they know what it is?
Peggy McIntosh (white woman ) wrote the article "Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack" It showcases her diary of what her expectations are in society as a white person, that a minority usually does not have in their daily life. She writes "I decided to try to work on myself at least by identifying some of the daily effects of white privilege on my life. As far as I can see, my African American co-workers, friends and acquaintances with whom I come into daily or frequent contact in this particular time, place and line of work cannot count on most of these conditions." Examples of white privilege: -I can be pretty sure that my neighbors in such a location will be neutral or pleasant to me. -I can go shopping alone most of the time, pretty well assured that I will not be followed or harassed. -I can turn on the television or open to the front page of the paper and see people of my race widely represented. -I can arrange to protect my children most of the time from people who might not like them. -I can swear, or dress in second hand clothes, or not answer letters, without having people attribute these choices to the bad morals, the poverty, or the illiteracy of my race. -I can do well in a challenging situation without being called a credit to my race. -I am never asked to speak for all the people of my racial group. Why are white women such vile, parasitic, treacherous whores these days?
They've united with the rest of the world in blaming White Men for every problem to occur in the history of humanity. They moan about "White Male Privilege" when they're the most privileged group in the world. White women will deserve it when they're being raped and circumcised by their black and brown saviours.
