Sad blues artists/songs?
This has been asked so many times before but I realize old questions fall off the radar. Blues doesn't need words to express what the feeling is. You know it when you hear them not with your ears but your heart. Ry Cooder - Feelin' Bad Blues http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIwYGZlBw... B.B. King - Big Boys Blues ( video title is wrong ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q85FSZXe_... at the 2:45 mark he'll make that guitar bleed and express what his soul feels. SRV - Tin Pan Alley/Dirty Pool ( best version ever performed, only my opinion ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCOTMSUDR... Ry Cooder - How Can A Poor Man Stand Such Times And Live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6efQ_GyQW3o This next song by Janis was her saddest song, in fact it was like almost singing her own anthem. Little Girl Blue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htdGFb-Ea_M Work Me Lord http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWzs9btcWo4 And if you want one about death. This was one of the most prolific songs ever done. It was reality from what the eyes had seen and the soul experienced. If you need lyrics explained then you didn't get the song. Billie Holiday - Strange Fruit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4ZyuULy9zs ~ Edit BTW Sparky Nice way around this 10 link limit. I never even thought of continuing on the source link. Thanks ~

What are the best SLOW blues songs?
I can throw in a few, and believe me please, these are my ABSOLUTE faves of their respective performers. Honestly, it's coincidental that you mention 2 of them. I swear on my entire Blues collection! There's a version of Muddy's "Just To Be With You" which I discovered on his "Unk In Funk" album. For me, the version is up with "She's Nineteen" and another 15 which are all in my top ten of his. ZZ Top's "I Need You Tonight" is in my opinion, their sweetest and most melodic. Check it on a summer's night while outside, with no distractions. From the Rolling Stones: "Down In The Hole" from their "Emotional Rescue" album...purest of Blues. Must include, "Slave," "Fancy Man Blues," their 2 versions of "Love In Vain," "Ventilator Blues," "Long Long While," "I Got The Blues," and even their industrialized punch of "Might As Well Get Juiced" has a True-to-Muddy's sound heard in the harmonica. Listen to these and tell me you aren't blessedly, pleasantly surprised.

What are some really dark blues artists or songs?
If you're lookin' for some deep dark blues you gotta be listenin’ to the REAL Blues. Delta, Texas, Piedmont.... Memphis, St. Louis, Chicago. They all hold a mix of emotion that has many similarities no matter what region they are from, but each style definitely carries that dark, sad sinister part. But here is a list of some of the ones I feel are dark and eerie. Hoodoo Lady/ Memphis Minnie, Black Cat Bone/ Lightin’ Sam Hopkin’s, Devil Got My Woman/ Skip James, Blue Ghost Blues/ Lonnie Johnson, Hell Hound on My Trail/ Robert Johnson. For Spirituals or songs of death, listen to: Lay Down Body/ the Moving Star Hall Singers See That My Grave Is Kept Clean/ Blind Lemon Jefferson Last Kind Words Blues/ Elive Thomas Soon One Morning/ Mississippi Fred McDowell (St. James Infirmary/ Louis Armstrong) For more voodoo/ hoodoo/ magic, listen to: Jinx Blues/ Son House, Little Queen of Spades/ Robert Johnson, I Put a Spell on You/ Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Mojo Hand/ Lightin’ Sam Hopkin’s, Seven Sisters/ J.T. Smith, Sceamin’ and Hollerin’ the Blues/ Charley Patton. I Got my Mojo Workin’/ written by Preston Foster Fortune Teller/ Witten by Allen Toussaint- Naomi Neville I Ain't Superstitious, Seventh Son, (I'm Your) Hoochie Coochie Man/written by Willie Dixon The list goes on. I’m still always lookin’ for the songs that send that chill down my spine myself. The Delta/ Louisiana region does seem to hold some of the darker songs. Maybe because the infamous crossroads legend, but that hoodoo stuff spreads on up into the Carolinas and I’m sure that type of stuff is all through the north as well cause it’s a mix of African/European/Native American ritual ideas(a melting pot, just like jazz). Everywhere has their superstition. Anyways this all ought to be a start if you don’t already know of these songs.
