As Muslims We Are Judged On What We Say Not What We Think

Why do people misjudge Muslims?

well thanks for realizing that Muslims are misjudged, because popular belief about hte religion is brought about by propaganda, racism, and ignorance. Media focuses only on the extremists that are causing violence and destruction. WE ARE NOT ALL EXTREMISTS. however, i dont think those things about Christians. I mean, there are some people that have absolutely NO shame in what they wear, but i cant control that. and there are people that are alcoholics, but thats just like hte misconception that all Muslims are terrorists. Not all of us are terrorists, just like not every Christian is an alcoholic.

CHIRSTANS STOP JUDGING MUSLIMS?

no where is the koran does it say kill americans osoma ben ladden says that just because my last names muhammad dosent mean im muslims i changed my name to get rid of my slave last name i am chirstans and im sick of people coming up to me askin am i a terrorist from iraq or that im the son of a serial killer that all non sense people chirstans please stop judging me i dont jude you that you killed the indians and took over thier land took over the africans brought them to america and concered the aborignals i dont judge you for that so dont judge me

Is this true about Islam? “Don't judge Islam by Muslims, judge Islam by Islam.”

It’s not really meaningful statement. Islam and how Muslims practice Islam are inextricably linked. Ideas don’t exist in a vacuum. You wouldn’t say something like “Don’t judge democracies by how they operate, but by their ideals” or vice versa. It’s not that one is better or worse than the other, but rather that they belong to the same body. One feeds into the other and back. There is really no such thing as a “pure” ideology, or a “pure” form of praxis. Christianity is just as much determined by the value judgments and ideological shifts of billions of individual Christians as Islam is with Muslims. Christianity as practiced by early Christians is no longer how modern Christians practice it, and Islam has undergone a number of shifts, arguably within this century, both in terms of praxis and how Muslims have decided to interpret the Quran.Ultimately judgement of Islam is kind of a strange feat to attempt to accomplish. It’s a value judgement that any individual is entitled to make. However I tend to think that people feel an intense need to settle these things in their own mind, definitively, before they can think meaningfully about it. I don’t think that’s as necessary as people think it is.

No offence, but why are Muslims so judgemental?

I noticed this. What are your thoughts. I know we all have our beliefs and views but why are Muslims ready to say astagfirullah and say that people aren't muslims for certain (bnot major) views? Isn't Allah the only one to judge

Why do muslims recon you can't judge islam by the obvious muslims and islamic run countires like other groups

Do Muslims in the United States judge random women who don't wear hijabs?

I think women judge each other regardless. When I used to commute to work via trains, I, as a hijabi, would get such hateful looks from women wearing mini-skirt suits. The looks accused me of turning the clock back on their feminist achievements. Don't ask me how I know this. It was just very obvious to me day in and day out. And I always wondered how could they wear such short dresses in such cold weather and hypothesized on the long term effects of the cold weather on their nearly bare legs. So, I'd say women generally size each other up and also judge each other; some do less than others. Only God knows the state of the heart. The one wearing hijab judges the one without and so forth and both types try to improve their character. A hijab wearing woman doesn't become an angel upon donning on the hijab. She struggles with the diseases of the heart as does everyone else.

I love Muslims on Quora, they are really friendly. Do you think we are over judging Muslims?

Only on Quora? Have you not met any other Muslims? As other commenters have said, the vast majority of Muslims are lovely people, but within the realms of Islam, there are Muslims who are idiots. I mean that they still practice mutilation etc. and why, because culture is a killer! Anyway I digress, Muslims on a whole may be overjudged but it is important to remember that there is no formal clergy in Islam. What on earth does that mean you ask? Well, there is no papacy etc., so within the pantheon of the Islamic tradition, each person needs to be assessed on his or her personal values/beliefs. Its not like the Catholic Church where you can say that Catholics are nice people because they generally adhere to the rulings of the Pope and he is a nice person etc. There are practicing Muslims who are nice people  but I wont want my daughter to be married to one of them. Why? Because their cultural paradigm may not be akin to mine! Have I rambled past the response to the question? Ok back to the issue. Muslims can be and are nice people! Even some of these ISIS monsters may be "nice and friendly"; it's how they recruit; full disclosure, I have not seen any of their recruiting material. If your spidey sense tingles when you meet someone, don't trust and respect blindly. Trust and respect has to be earned, so do your due diligence! Give people a chance to prove themselves. However, I have met very, very few Muslims who are not generally decent people and you know what they say, a jerk will be a jerk no matter what religion or culture he/she belongs to.
