Asian Parents From Asian Background .

Asian parents + math = HELP!?!?

Wows. You're only 12 and she's doing that already? I would suspect they would do that around my age, which is pretty much in high school because that's when it gets really hard..hmm..well...

I think the best you can do is study for now, as much as you don't want to, study here and there, do what she says, and just go about your day as it usually is during school...just..without the school part.

Other than studying and doing what she says, you can try to talk to her again. Or you can see what your friends think. Like ask them for help, because there is always at least one friend out there that has the same situation as you do, or..at least close to the same.

While talking to her, always say the positive things, things like what you said, getting the highest grade in math class or always having A's. And ONLY if it is completely true, if it's slightly true, and they know it, they'll make it a HUGE deal and you never want to go there...

Good luck! And hope this helps. :)

Many times, they look like Polynesians.I’ve lived in Seattle, or the Bay Area all of my life. Those are both very International urban centers, and you end up seeing a variety of people get together. Many people who have Black and Asian parents end up looking like Samoans or Tongans. Why is that? Easy.Ancient African and Asian people were sailing around the world for thousands of years before people like Columbus “discovered” anything. So sea-faring Asians and Africans ended up on the same tropical islands, settling there and… getting to know each other. Why do Asian/Black mixed people often look like Polynesian people? Well, you get the idea.Want to hear something funny? When I was younger, and wore my hair down, Polynesian young men would come up to me to pay their respects. I’d be at the park or zoo with the kids, and sometimes a few Tongan, Fijian, or Samoan teenagers would walk over to acknowledge me and my family before going about their day. I didn’t have the heart to tell them my ancestry is Black and Choctaw nation. Most humans alive have a mixture of DNA from a variety of ancestors.

Why are asian parents so dumb and strict?

TO ASIAN HIGH SCHOOLERS:

They'll get mad at you when you get a C+ in English. They'll scream, "you were born in america!!! and all you get is C pus! that is shameful! your supposed to get A pus! NagaJuguh! (which means go outside and die)"

Asian parents (especially mine) expect their sons/daughters to carry textbooks for every subject when their teachers don't even give out textbooks for learning ... we use visual learning by using laptops or just plain note sheets. (Exactly in my case)

They have the right to tell their sons/daughters to be careful driving when they get their license when THEY are the ones that can't drive for ****!!!

They make their son/daughter learn at least one-two instruments which they dislike. (Mostly piano)

All they know to wish what their son/daughter would be when they grow up is doctor, lawyer, or scientist. Hahaha, I'm not even joking here. What if they want to be a famous breakdancer instead? YOU CAN'T PUSH THEIR DREAMS AWAY!

Why Are Asian Parents So Abusive?

When I was growing up, I had typical Asian parents. I am dyslexia, and was diagnosed at the age of 8. My parents were ashamed of me because of my dyslexia. Every day my parents drilled English and Maths into me, I was unable to do it and will always hit or punch me if I get the answers wrong. They will call me stupid, idiot and retarded. Because I wasn't the brightest bulb in the box, my parents refused to get me birthday or Christmas gifts, they never brought shoes or clothes for me and sometimes excluded me from family trips.
My older sister and younger brother always got treats because they were so smart. My parents favoured them to me.
Every weekend, my mum taught us violin and piano. I never get it right, I was repeatedly whipped by a bamboo. My parents will call me all kinds of nasty names.
The last time my family celebrated my birthday was when I was 5 years old. When I was 15 years old, my parents stopped teaching me maths. English, piano and violin. They said I am too stupid to be taught. So I continued to receive extra lessons at school. When I got Cs and C+ on my report card my parents always called me stupid and useless. I will never amount in life.
I never forget the time that my mum chopped all my long hair off when I was 14 years old , because I scored an average mark in Grade 8. I looked like a boy. My aunt nicely reshaped it for me. It took 2 years for my hair to grow back to the original length.
My parents didn't come to my school graduation. I cut them off at the age of 19. They came back when I was in rehab, because I am an ex drug addict. They called me a crack whore who brought more shame to the family.
I hear a lot of stories about Asian parents who physically and emotionally abuse their kids for not achieving an A* and an A grade. Asian parenting is cruel. Asian parents think their kids will get over the abuse. I haven't recovered and plan to go for counselling.

Are Asian parents control freaks?

whoa..

Haha..
Nah, my parents specifically are not that bad.
My family is Chinese btw.
My dad came to Canada when he was 7 years old from China, and my mom came to Canada from Hong Kong with her three kids (my older half-siblings) when she was around 22..
My dad is pretty much a 'twinkie' and my mom is pretty open minded considering she has the accent and everything still when she talks, so people tend to stereotype her.

I think there's alot of factors that make parents in general more strict..
- them specifically and their personality traits
- whether or not you're the youngest or oldest child (I'm the youngest child in my family.. by alot of years actually... I think my siblings sort of paved the way for me because they were all rebels when they were younger, and my parents ended up having to trust them versus trying to work against them)
- whether or not you're a boy or girl... (I don't think this is just an 'asian' thing either.. like I think sons are trusted more in general... with daughters, it's "please make sure you don't get raped, kidnapped, molested, etc etc", with sons.. it's like they're tough enough to take care of themselves, etc)

But yeah, some parents are a little bit more protective than others. I don't think there's such thing as normal in this world; every family is dysfunctional.

Are you first-generation American?

The thing is with alot of Asian parents (mine are exceptions... might be a bad thing actually, but that's another story) come to another country and work their butts off to succeed. Their kids are sort of a continuation of their success... they didn't come to a foreign country and work hard just so their offspring can be lazy moochers you know?
So they love you, and they also want to see you work up to the best of your abilities and to your potential because you're a reflection of them... which is.. yeah that SUCKS haha.

What's wrong with strict Asian parents?

Yea, and you hear success stories but not the stories of those who end up failing and not getting there. Not everyone gets into an Ivy, most Asian kids don't go to the Ivies or get in and for them life is bad. Asian kids who cannot get a high SAT score and those that cannot get a good GPA are often subject to ridicule in the Asian community and some end up committing suicide as a result of it.

Also Asian kids lack independence that a lot of White kids have and a lot of Black kids have, I have known Asian kids who live with their parents even when they are in college and most cannot control themselves when they are in college. It is not where you go to for college that matters but rather what you do there, you need to be the best at an Ivy League university in order to get into the top grad programs and get that high paying jobs, guess what, most kids don't get that. Look at the Asians that commit suicide, hit deep depression and go through all that when they cannot achieve their goals. Also book smarts are great but most Asian kids in my experience have absolutely no street smarts.

Yes, and no.Every Asian American parent I know (Indian and Chinese) emotionally abuses their kids in some way. Emotional abuse just isn’t a thing that exists to them. While emotional abuse is sadly rampant among parents of all races here in the US, I suspect there is a much higher rate within the Asian community.Physical abuse is also popular, although much more hushed up and embarrassing. Starving your kids, slapping them, force feeding them until they throw up, etc. are all things that have happened.Slapping your kids is seen as the only thing that is semi-acceptable, the others are seen as going too far, though they still happen. So yes, there is rampant emotional abuse, but no, there is not really rampant physical abuse.
