At The Age Of 17 Are You Too Old To Be In High School

Is 16 too old for a high school freshman?

I'm going to be starting high school this year and I was home schooled all my life and have completed algebra 1 but just made a late decision. I have never been held back a grade. Will I be treated differently because I'm older?
Answers from 16 year old freshman would be nice. Thanks in advance : )

Is graduating from high school at 19 too old ?

Not at all. Both my son and daughter were and will be almost 19 when they graduated.
They were both born in September. The cutoff date for starting school in first grade was Aug 31, so they just missed it and were with days of being 7 years old when they started. No big deal at all and they both have done well and the oldest is in college now.

Then main thing is you graduate, it doesn't matter if you are 100 years old. Just graduate and don't rush it.

I am 17 years old and failed 2 years of high school, so I still have 2 years left to do, which means I'll finish high school at 19. How bad is that? Am I a lost cause?

The bright side is you are still in the system and willing to try. Kid, there's many people who drop out and go back 2-6 years later to get their GED. Then they start all over again by working, going to college for the first time, or raising a family between age 19-29 which is way harder. I mean even age 25-30 isn't that weird to be in college for your 4 year degree either. Some people simply don't have the funds to pay for college. Are those people who delayed it by working and saving up money any worse as humans? No. You can even read about a I think 90-something year old woman who earned her 4 year degree or high school degree because she had to drop out of middle school/high school in the 1940's? 1970's? If anyone makes fun of you and they graduated high school on time it shows a bad character. They weren't raised with respect to others. If they are late like you and feel like dragging you along and say "let's both quit" ignore him/her. Kid, in this day and age even a high school diploma means something. It's something that people need on a basic level. So many people get into debt to pay for college because so many people are going to college it's basic necessity to go to college (for the right reasons) that high school is silly not to finish. What I mean is whether high school or college there are people who take longer or shorter time to get things done. Just get it done kid. You need to find a teacher who will help you. I was not in your shoes but I had problems with Algebra. With extra tutoring help from a compassionate teacher and tutor I passed. You may not have the same resources (private tutor) but it just means yea you'll take longer. You can do it though. Google stories if you like.

Is graduating High School at age 19 bad?

I'm a 17 year old female and in September I'm suppose to be a senior but unfortunately I'm far behind on credits so I won't be graduating until 2012 and in September I'll be a 11th grade :'(
I'll be 19 in 2012 when I graduate. Do you think that is too old?
I'm very sad b/c all my friends and my boyfriend will be graduating next year and I'm going to
still be in school. I attend a online school so I just tell my boyfriend and my friends that I'm graduating next year even though I'm not. I hope they don't find out the truth. I'm just gonna keep it from them. I even cry about it sometimes. I feel that 19 is just too old
to be graduating High school. It's kinda embarrassing. My plans were to be in college by the age of 19 but I'll still be in High school ! :'(
Do you know anyone who graduated at 19 is it a bad thing?
Let me know. Share your answers on how you feel about this.

Thanks !

What is an acceptable age for being a high school sophomore? Is 17 too old?

I am currently a high school sophomore, and although I may not be 17, I do know people that are 17 and sophomores.First, why are you 17 and a sophomore?Option 1: You failed two grades and are now 17 in grade 10. Is this acceptable? Yes. Is it frowned upon? Maybe.Option 2: You came to your country when you were slightly older, and were put in a class 2 years behind your actual grade level. Is this acceptable? Yes. It also makes a lot of sense.Although it is acceptable to be 17 and a sophomore, it may not be ideal. However, it does happen. Whatever the reason, if the students in your school are like some of those in mine, from time to time they may make little remarks. I suggest you don’t always listen to them. As long as you keep your grades up and have friends in your grade, nobody will care too much.Good luck this year :)

Is 17 (senior in high school) too late of an age to get confirmed?

Not at all. Speak with your priest or the faith formation director at your parish. Based on the amount of catechesis preparation you've already received and/or the amount you need, he’ll be able to get you into the proper class for high schoolers or adults.

At what age is someone too old to be grounded?

I'm a senior in high school and many people in my class are already 18, but because I skipped a grade in elementary school I just recently turned 17. Most people would say that you can't ground an 18 year old because he or she is an adult, but if a 17 year old is handling the exact same work load and responsibilities as the 18 year old why should she be grounded just because she's slightly younger?

And please don't say that as long as you are living under the parent's roof you can be grounded because I've heard of college students moving back home and even grown ups in their 20s and early 30s having to live with their parents again because of the miserable economy and job market.

Why is there such a discrepancy between the way a 18 year old and a 17 year old is treated? Don't you think a 17 year old should be treated as an adult? In some countries you're considered to be an adult at 17.
