At The End Of Shawshank Redemption Why Does The Warden Shoot Himself Kind Of Ironic.

Why does the warden of Shawshank Prison kill Tommy Williams in the movie 'Shawshank Redemption'?

There’s a difference in this between the movie version and the book version. In the book, Norton(the warden) simply gets Tommy Williams transferred to a lax prison facility where he won’t have to do much labour work and can meet his family over the weekends, in exchange for his silence. In the movie, he gets Tommy Williams killed.Tommy was willing to give a statement about the real killer of Andy’s wife. In both the cases, the warden’s intention was to silence Tommy and keep Andy under his finger for as long as possible. Andy was being too useful for him in his shady business activities. If Andy made it out of the prison due to Tommy’s testimony, it would have been inconvenient for him to carry on with his fraud. Not to mention, the fear of Andy blabbing out all his fraudulent activities once he is out of the joint. To a certain extent, he also did it for the pleasure of torturing Andy. In the book, he tells Andy about how he does not like the way Andy carries himself around the prison as if he’s a free bird and wants to make his life miserable.

The Shawshank Redemption?

The cops come for the warden and the guards because Andy sends the authorities a package in the mail (the package he asks them to send when he goes to the bank) detailing all of their financial misdeeds (bribes, corruption, etc.) as well as abuse by the guards.

For the warden, it would be that bad since he was an absolute control freak and would likely end up at his own prison. In that case, he'd be killed by the inmates anyway.
