I am really torn about using a snake draft or linear draft. Ive had some users say that linear is unfair, but i think they are fair. Also using the snake draft the people with the first and last picks are pretty much screwed because they pick every 20 times. Two years ago we finally switched to a live, in-person draft. That alone adds significant excitement to draft day. You HAVE to pay attention to the draft. There's no system that automatically clears players, you can't (quite as easily) look up last minute injuries and position battles (or the commish can prevent it altogether) and generally you have to come much more prepared. It's near impossible to have a successful live, in-person draft without having spent at least some time in mock drafts beforehand. Having a common paper system adds a tangible level of interaction above just having an in-person draft. The experience of sitting through the couple of picks before your next one, when someone is reaching for the sheet of WRs that contains your amazing, secret sleeper pick is nerve-wracking. The sense of satisfaction when you paste a name onto the board and people start yelling and moaning about how they were only one, two, three picks away is great. The heckling and the congratulations are made that much better by the 'reveal' process for each pick.Also, using a new draft board each year: souvenir status.For the curious: I am column 3. I have been in many online drafts and the longest one I can think of was probably a little over 2 hours. So I think you can expect it to be 2 hrs. 15 mins. or less. And really, most people don't trade after the draft. The drafts this year have gone faster. You are better off joining a created league because it is more likely everyone will be at the draft. I did a 10 team draft with like 22 rounds in about 1 hour 45 minutes.

What do you mean by live draft? When you say you'd rather stay home, this implies you're having an offline draft but using the online software? If so, I'm about 99 percent sure you can't do this. Since only one person can draft per team, the room would probably tell whoever logs in second they can't do it. I also don't think you'd want to do this even in the unlikely event you could. Online drafts move quickly, especially if your draft position is not in the middle. It's hard enough plotting strategy and keeping track of what's been taken without having a side convo. And you'd need to keep IM or something open for that side convo, because you wouldn't want to be having it in the draft room chat box.
