Australia Can Anyone Give Me Some Career Advice

American attorney wanting to practice in Australia...any advice?

The information provided by the previous answerer is excellent and details all necessary requirements for admittance to the Australian profession once you have been granted a visa, but obtaining your visa is the first step.

Legal Practitioners, both Barrister and Solicitor are listed on the SOL (Skilled Occupation List) and are worth 60 points (the maximum). This is a strong indication that lawyers are in demand and in short supply in Australia. The only people who have any chance of being granted a visa to emigrate to Australia are those whose occupation is listed on the SOL so that's a good start.
Go to http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-s... take the points test to see if you qualify; and check out the Skill Matching Database to see if your occupation has any jobs listed.
Go to http://www.seek.com.au/ and http://www.careerone.com.au and also register with http://www.mahlab.com.au/index.cfm?pageID=42&. These sites will provide a great deal of information on job opportunities in the legal profession.

Is there anyone who quit being a doctor in Sydney/Australia who can give me some advice on how they did it?

I got into medicine and turned it down, Im creative, a photographer now. Being a doctor has to be the worst job anyone could consider. The last time I checked, the process of becoming a doctor changed to this, 3 years, then 3 years in emergency dept, then your done. There’s also a personality test (in QLD but probably in NSW now) at the exact point where you are. If you do not pass that test, you get a science degree. My advice, take that science degree and run your bottoms as far away as possible. Now, having said that, you say you use the creative part of your mind, this means that you suck at exams but out perform anyone at the actual job. You could be the best doctor there is. Those left brained hicks only know how to get straight A’s but when it comes to performance, only a guy/girl like you can actually help people.Einstein was asked to QUIT physics. Being a student was not his thing, he was a right brained man. Yes, the left brained men/woman in his year did so much better than him in class, but who was the real hero at the end of the day? This world has too many drs who are too frightened to do their job. If you are the type of person who would actually care and not give into the whole (don’t run an MRI! IT’s too expensive) pressure, then do it.

I am from India and want to migrate to Australia. I have 5 years of working experience in IT (Programming on .Net, Angularjs and Node.js). Can anyone help me with job opportunities and the process?

You have a great skill set which is employable not only in Australia but in most parts of the world. However, work rights and visas are the most important requirement to find job here. You have to invest in your Permanent Residency. Its a fairly straight forward yet laborious process. Australia uses a points based skill assessment system to grant these visas. The cost has increases sharply in the recent years and will cost you about $5K AUD or (2.5 Lakh INR) for individual and another 1.2 lakh per dependant.Another way is to find an employer who is willing to sponsor for 457 temporary visa. But that is completely shut down by the government last month. So you have to wait till the new visa comes into action but it is going to be very expensive for the employer and terms are very stringent in the new visa.So my suggestion is to either commit yourself for permanent residency or feel lucky and hope to find an employer who is willing to go through sponsor and endure the costs. You can find and ask more fellow Indians who are calling Australia home for career advice at https://Indianz.org People help each other so just post something specific and you should a quick response

How do I get a job offer from Australia if I am from outside of Australia?

I agree completely with Pandu R Arketi’s Comment below…Please don't compare Australia to US, where many companies will be willing to hire people and skilled people are not available. Australia is a country with 25 million people and 1/4 of the population lives in Sydney and Melbourne and 85 % of migrants relocate there as soon as their immigration law allows. If you are a technologist with a high degree or even specialist doctor, you still might need to pass some exam here before you are eligible to perform any duty. The only way you can get a job offer from Australia even when you are not there is, when you have PR visa and you have uploaded your resume on seek. you have 5% chance that with your specialized skill, consultants might call you for an interview. The game changes if Govt or University is looking for special skills. I know one friend who has P.hd on Digital analytics and he was invited by Queensland university for an interview. but he gave IELTS and had his PR application ready before came here for an interview.
