Australian Moving To New Zealand

Should I move to Australia or New Zealand?

A few ways of answering. One is comparative advantages. Few people have lived in more than one city of both countries, so you would tend to get single data points, like Sydney is better than Wellington, or vice versa. Is there an Australian city which is better than an NZ city for access to skiing or white water rafting say? Choose the function you would like and compare towns, not countries. The countries are similar enough that specific matter. I've noticed people who have lived in both tend to keep going back to their last best job between the two. The second is quality of living. This reflects an average of all metrics to generate a single comparative number. Everyone and no-one is average. The third is decision regret. Would you regret your decision if you choose one and not the other? Do you need to? Residence in one confers some degree of accessibility to the other. Will you be forever thinking, I could have lived in another country? Know your mind and good luck with your decision.

Move to Canada, Australia, or New Zealand?

As an American, I'm tired of the quality in our country continuously dropping, and I'd like to plan on moving away before the imminent bombshells begin to hit. I was planning on starting to save up now, and then get the visa work done to move to either Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. My main concerns when moving are:

A. Cost of Living
B. Employment
C. View of locals towards American immigrants.
D. Government stability
E. Things to Do

If anyone can give me good explanations on what the places are like, I'd be more than happy. Pros and Cons strongly preferred. Thanks for reading!

Should I move to Australia or New Zealand?

You just can not "move" to either country permanently, you must apply to migrate. If you want to educate yourself--you will have to apply to Uni-be accepted and pay your full tuition, room, board, living expenses, etc. It really does not matter, either way you go, it will be difficult.
If you qualify--try a holiday visa--good for up to 3 months--then you go home. You might qualify for a Working Holiday Visa--good for up to 12 months.

When New Zealanders move to Australia joke?

Australians are the butt of Kiwi humour (and vice versa) — even at the highest diplomatic level. During the 1980s, then Prime Minister of New Zealand Robert Muldoon was asked about the increasing exodus of New Zealanders leaving the country to work in Australia. His comment was that by doing so, they were raising the average IQ of both countries. The joke derives from the Will Rogers phenomenon.

In general terms, Australians are stereotyped in New Zealand humour as being brash, boorish, lazy and more than a little stupid. New Zealanders, in return, are seen by Aussies as being dull, stupid and mocked as 'South Seas Poms' on account of their supposedly closer ties with Britain ('Pom' is a slang word for 'English person' which is used by New Zealanders and Australians).

Are Australian and New Zealand plugs the same? i.e. If I buy a laptop in NZ will it work normally in OZ?

Yes they are exactly the same. I travel from NZ to Australia for work and have absolutely no issues with hooking my laptop up in Australia and even connecting through the phone line to dial into my work (they are cheap and still use dial up rather than broadband!).

Moving Australian Shepherd puppy from Australia to New Zealand?

Firstly, I applaude your persistence in obtaining an Australian Shepherd with a full tail. Not only is a docking a cruel and barbaric practice, it is highly unnecessary. The argument to dock the tail of a working dog (or any dog for that matter) due to collection of burrs or feces is invalid as I would have to question the ability of the owner to provide simple care such as washing and grooming to the dog. Docking a tail to comply with a breed standard is pathetic.

There should be no issues with importing a puppy from Australia, but there ARE a few specific health checks, treatments and certificates that MAF NZ will require. The puppy will be given a few basic health checks on arrival and as long as the results are clear, there will be NO quarantine period. This is the case for dogs (and cats) imported from Australia only.

A well seasoned breeder will be able to assist in obtaining these treatments or be able to liaise with a Pet Transport company who will do everything for you.

When I returned to New Zealand, I bought my cat with me and although the requirements for cats are a little less stringent than dogs, it was still a bit of a complicated process. I engaged the services of a Pet Transport company and they organized all the health checks, treatments and documentation for me. Pet Transport company costs can be expensive and can vary greatly, so I do suggest shopping around.

As for the idiot who said the puppy would die, I can assure you that the airlines are quite stringent on animal welfare, insist on minimum crate sizes for movability as well as adequate water for hydration.

I've added the link to the MAF website below. If you do find it all too confusing, then I really do recommend a Pet Transport company as they deal with this process every single day.
