Average Metabolism Advantages

What are the disadvantages of high metabolism?

Jealousy is a major hardship with high metabolic rates. People around you will make faces like they are watching a Zombie Movie while you eat. Learn to respond when you hear "Beanpole,"because people will be talking to you. (It's a strange double-standard. People talk about the fat person.)

In many cases, a person with high metabolism cannot gain or maintain weight for a long time. This is specifically difficult for expectant mothers because weight gain is important for the baby’s health and that of the mother. A woman needs good nutrition and fuel for herself and the baby by eating for two. It is therefore a disadvantage because a pregnant woman will have to work closely with a medic and ensure she eats well for two for a healthy pregnancy.High metabolism also has a direct effect on blood sugar level. When the body converts food into energy quickly, blood sugar levels tend to dip during the day leading to irregular heartbeat (Arrhythmia), irritability and excessive sweating. Maintain healthy blood sugar level is imperative for every one and it means that a person with high metabolism will have to get more time to eat as much as he or she can during the day.Health effects of high metabolism can be managed by taking frequent meals. However, in other cases, a medic can recommend prescription to slow down the rate of metabolism. This can easily lead to hyperthyroidism, a condition characterized with production of Various Hormones that end up pushing the metabolism even further. In other cases, high metabolism is associated with high mortality rate. According to past research studies, high basal metabolic rate is indicative of a poor general health status, poor nutrition and homeostatic disregulation. These can easily led to many life threatening conditions in the end. The other reason for high mortality is closely associated with oxidative damage in individuals with high metabolism. It is clear that high metabolism is considered an advantage by many but the reality is that it comes with many risks. The grass is always greener on the other side. Therefore, it is essential to maintain a healthy metabolic rate to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Advantage: People with high metabolism eat a lot more than most people do daily.Disadvantages: People with high metabolism have more difficulty with losing weight than most people do due to their huge appetite. They also have to spend so much money on groceries.Despite all the skinny fat kids who think they have high metabolism, eat so much and can’t gain weight, etc.People with high metabolism actually do not have a problem with gaining weight. Everyone knows weight gain is caused by consuming surplus calories. People with high metabolism would have skyrocket high appetite. They would crave for big meals everyday. When I say “big meals”, I’m talking about eating a Big Mac, french fries, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, and some ice cream all in one sitting. Imagine eating a big meal like that 5–6 times a day. That’s a big appetite. Why would someone with a big appetite have a problem with eating surplus calories? If someone with a high metabolism needs 5,000 calories just to maintain their weight, they can eat 5,200 or even 6,000 calories with no problem. And guess what? Their weight will go up.I literally have never seen a skinny person who eats 5,000 calories everyday and stay skinny irl. Ever.

Can't really beat User's answer in terms of physiology, so I'm going to stick to practical, everyday advantages and disadvantages. I have lived through phases with relatively low and very high metabolisms, so I can speak from experience with the help of a bit of medical knowledge to know what actually happened to my body. Nevertheless, these experiences are purely subjective, but I have spoken to many people who recognize the patterns and as I said, it has a physiological basis.High metabolism:I used to row in college, and trained about 5-6 times a week at my peak, needless to say, that boosted my metabolism a bit.Pros:You're lean as f*ck and your body is anabolic (in the physiological sense, meaning your body tends to building up). Sixpack, no love handles, you get it.No way you're getting fat. Seriously, I ate a two pound family pack of lasagna for dinner more than once. You have a crapload of energy. All. the. time. You may also feel like you think faster.Cons:You're constantly hungry. You spend mountains of cash on food, especially as you have to eat during the day and at the most random of times/placesYou're so amped you have trouble sleeping, if only because your body is so goddamn warm all the timeAlthough it seems like I was less prone to little ailments, I was however hit by a few major diseases during this time, the link is however dubious, but perhaps it had to do with ignoring the early stages of the disease (e.g. a URI turning into a bronchitis and later a borderline pneumonia)Low metabolism:I don't really go anywhere near hypothyroid-like low metabolism, but during cold-dark winters in the North, which I didn't grow up with on the Mediterranean, I tend to go into hibernation mode a bit.Pros:You're calmer, more thoughtful and less impulsiveYou don't need much food and seem to enjoy what get moreYou sleep like a babyCons:You're often tired and sleep moreYou feel like shit when you wake upYou may gain quite some weight, while your muscle mass may actually be on the decline for lack of activity. You're constantly coldYou're more prone to little ailments (as before, this link is dubious, as this was after all flu season)

What are the advantages of the pentose cycle?

The pentose phosphate pathway exists both in the cytosol and mitochondrial plastid. The six-carbon glucose-6-phosphate is initially oxidized to the five-carbon ribulose-5-phosphate. The carbon is lost as CO2, and reducing power is conserved in the form of two molecules of another reduced pyridine nucleotide, NADPH. In following near-equilibrium reactions of the pentose phosphate pathway, ribulose-5-phosphate is converted into sugars containing three to sever carbon atoms.

The pentose cycle is also called the hexose monophosphate shunt. It is an alternative pathway of glucose metabolism to glycolysis (Embden-Meyerhof). It diverts some glucose phosphate away from glycolysis and returns part of the diverted glucose carbon to glycolysis as fructose-6-phosphate and glyceraldehyde phosphate. Among other functions it serves to regenerate ribose phosphate which is needed for RNA synthesis, and to reduce NADP+ to NADPH which is needed for fatty acid synthesis. Glucose metabolism by the pentose cycle is distinguished by the release of C-1 from glucose as CO2 early in the cycle. Therefore the output of the C-6 of glucose to CO2 is delayed relative to that of C-1 because the C-6 that enters the pentose cycle must pass through additional intermediates before some, or all of it, is released as CO2.

Plants can regulate the percentage of glucose metabolism that flows through glycolysis and the pentose pathway. The pentose pathway functions mainly as the mechanism for the conversion of glucose to various intermediates for biosynthesis. Any glucose not needed for biosynthetic intermediates is routed through glycolysis for cellular respiration.

Benefits of having a high metabolism?

Living the high metabolism lifestyle has many benefits. For one, you can eat whatever you want and never gain a pound. With a high metabolism, your hair and nails also grow much faster too. In fact, your body is in all-systems-go mode, 24/7. You rarely get sick, recover from exercise or injury in record time, and will find yourself eating constantly. Your bowels will be so clean, practically everything you consume goes straight through you within 4-8 hrs. Your energy level will be so high - you will often find yourself waking up in the middle of the night, wanting to finish up uncompleted tasks. The part I truly love is that I can eat whatever I want all hours of the day, simply because I am burning calories and body fat, even while asleep.

All this comes at some considerable cost, though. You simply cannot be sedentary at all. In fact, most fast-metabolism folks never find themselves seated more than 30 minutes...unless driving somewhere. We are always moving. We make to-do lists every day and strive to finish everything listed. Because we are constantly on the go...illness and bad health have almost no chance to strike. Our bodies are continually renewing ourselves. Nothing is wasted and nothing is lost. The only things gained are youthful appearance and unstoppable sexual appetite. I'm 46 but I feel and move like I'm 19...in fact, I am in better shape NOW than I ever was!

Physically, I went from a 230 pound fat guy to a 165 pound lean dude, with a ripped, six pack of abs and bulging veins. Because of this, I now can ride my road race bicycle 200 miles a week, with relative ease. Mind you, I was NOT always this way - I was formerly a lazy, drug addict/alcoholic who WANTED to change my ways to live the high-metabolism lifestyle. If I can do it...so can anybody. Look at Brad Pitt, Mario Lopez, Ryan Reynolds, Jason Statham...they all have one thing in common with me - we NEVER stop moving!
