How is the ₹2 crore salary of an Indian grade A cricket player justified? Why did Virat Kohli ask for a raise even though their salaries are already gigantic?

One line Answer - Because BCCI and State Associations are robbing money which is generated by Players by only paying measly 8% of total revenue.Long Answer -Even after being Richest Cricket Board , Indian Players are being paid much lesser than English and Australian Players.Credit- Espn Cricinfo .Players are Eligible to receive to 26% of BCCI’s Gross revenue. The 26% revenue-sharing formula was cleared by a resolution passed by the BCCI general body in 2001, which was finally put into place in 2004 by BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya after prolonged discussions with senior players led by Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid. This 26% is meant to be split three ways -- 13% for international players, 10.6% for domestic players and the rest for women and juniors. The BCCI's total income in 2015-16 stood at INR 1365.35 crore. Out of this, the board paid a total of 56.35 crore to players. An amount of 46.31 crore was paid as "additional payment to players", as per the board's annual statement last year. Which is only 8% of their Annual Revenue. This salary hike may not concern stars like Kohli or Dhoni . But will sure help players like Pujara who won’t get an IPL contract. It will Help Young Players realize that they can earn Big Bucks by playing test cricket too. It will also help Woman cricketers and First class Cricketers too.

Why is there a difference in the salaries of the men's cricket team and women' s cricket team within the same grade as per the new BCCI contracts?

Generally, one gets the salary based on the revenue they generate for their company. Indian Men’s cricket team brings lot of money to BCCI, hence they are salaried according to that.Women’s cricket has just started so expecting equal salaries for both is not appropriate as of now.Once women cricket bring same revenue as the men’s team, they will get equal salary.
