Baby Vaccines In Dubai

How many times oral polio vaccine drops should be given during the first year of a child?

Polio is caused by poliomyelitis, is a highly infectious virus. It enters the body through the mouth, in water or food from an infected person. In most cases, the infection becomes mild and the person will recover fully after a few days. But in 5% of the cases, the virus goes from the intestinal tract to the bloodstream and can damage the nerves. This leads to paralysis, breathing problems or even death. Hence, our only defense is to vaccinate ourselves against it. Kids upto five years are at the highest risk of being attacked for their underdeveloped immune system.Children should be vaccinated with four doses of IPV during the first year of a child:   First dose can be given as early as age 6 weeksA dose at 2 monthsA dose at 4 monthsA dose at 6-18 monthsIPV is a kind of injectable vaccine currently used in countries like USA. IPV is completely different from OPV as it contains inactivated version of the virus instead of the live, weakened virus. In case of OPV, there is an extremely small risk that someone can develop polio. The risk can be completely overcome if you also give IPV to your kids. The recommended series of OPV are four dosesOne at about 6 weeksOne at about 10 weeksOne at about 14 weeks or 4 weeks after dose 2A booster at 16 monthsThere should be at least 4 weeks between each of dose 1, 2 and 3 and at least 6 months between dose 3 and the booster. Sometimes a dose is given with the first 2 weeks right after birth.

After how many days should a person bitten by a dog get vaccinated against rabies?

If the dog is vaccinated, and its home is known, then the best action is to (1) contact the local health department, (2) make sure the dog can be confined for the 10-day observation period. Under these circumstances, the health department will normally advise not to begin the post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).If the dog is UNvaccinated, or no-one knows, and in any case if the dog has run away, disappeared, ill, dead, euthanized, the local health authority will normally recommend starting the PEP immediately, in consultation with your MD.
