What is the importance of photosynthesis in an ecosystem?

Photosynthesis and Important ?Before asking that question You should ask another question : Why is it important to eat?Today we are alive because of photosynthesis, it is the only natural process which uses sunlight for the production of food. Below are the main reasons why photosynthesis is important:This process produces Oxygen which is necessary for the respiration of all living organisms. It also uses Carbon Dioxide in atmosphere, thus maintain the balanced concentration of Carbon Dioxide in air.All the Photosynthetic plants depend upon the process of photosynthesis.Fruits and Vegetables we eat are produced by photosynthetic plants. One can say that eating meat will help us survive the circumstances in case photosythesis vanishes. Then remember that the meat we eat are of herbivorus animals (chicken and goat etc.) which are also dependent on photosythetic plants. Same is the case with consumers. In short, every living organism depends directly or indirectly upon photosynthesis. So next time…..think twice before cutting a tree

Will a B and an A- prevent me from attending Harvard Medical School?

Definitely not. Your transcript/GPA is just one piece of your application. When medical school admissions committees evaluate your application, once your GPA and MCAT score meet their standards, they do not look at that part of your application anymore. Even if they do fall below standards, that does not mean you won’t get in (although, too far below, especially at a place like HMS, is unlikely). One B is no big deal. Generally, above a 3.5 and above a 512ish on the MCAT is a good baseline to shoot for academically - this is what I was told by a former admissions committee member from Brown Med School.Rather, schools take a holistic approach to the admissions process. So what you are doing outside of the classroom is just as important if not more than how you are performing inside the classroom. Knowing what med schools look for in applicants is a good place to start.Especially with top schools like HMS, you will need to show your passion and drive for going to med school, and you will also need to show why you’re unique. So there are certain types of extracurricular experiences you should have, but make sure you’re doing them in a way that’s unique to you, individually. You have to stand out!

I scored less marks in class 11, can I still score good in class 12?

Believe me, you can!For most of the students, class 11 is like a transition phase after the class 10 board exams. There is no pressure of studies, we study when we want without caring much for the scores and end up messing everything. At least I did!But the important thing here is not to judge yourself by your class 11 performance. One year of dedicated studies is more than enough for a good percentage. Just make sure you have everything properly planned out. Be it the initial first study, or the final revision. Keep revising everything and try to score good in the pre board exams as well. Also listen to the teachers and try to remain attentive in class (yes, I'm not joking!). Thoroughly practice the NCERT's. Everything they ask is from the ncert's only. Cram up the portion which needs cramming. Do not leave anything for the last (I did a similar mistake in my chemistry paper and left the last topic 'Chemistry in everyday life' to learn during the boards. I never touched that!). If you have maths you may solve other books like R.D. Sharma, but make sure you have practised the ncert's fully. Also, do not take extreme measures like cutting off from social life, ignoring your hobbies etc. Just give priority to your studies as and when required.I believe with all these tips you can score good in your board exams. All the best!P.S.: I started my board exams preparation in late December. Referring only to the ncert's and listening to my teachers, I ended up getting a decent 95.4%! Maybe this can motivate you.

This might sound dumb but I was thinking of triple majoring in biology, chemistry, and physics. I took AP Biology and AP Physics 1 and C. I didn't take AP chemistry. Is this reasonable? Would I be able to do a triple major with these 3 subjects?

The life of a chem major is not easy. Some schools are just lecture and lab lecture lecture lab a boring way to comprehend chemistry especially if you have taken AP Chemistry or a higher level chemistry, honors probably does not count. Why don’t you look into:BiochemistryBiomedical EngineeringA triple major is very hard to come by especially if it’s 3 distinct majors not 1 distinct and two that overlap in requirements you can minor in chemistry and then find one subject more interesting but will having 3 majors be worth it if you know you are paying full tuition with little to no financial aid, tell me when you get your student loans back if 5 years. Go to a school that has a more general science major to get a taste of all those sciences in one college is a time to have a decent amount of fun and I think You’ll miss out on internship opportunities and summers abroad because you swamped with chem lab work, physics problem sets and a bio research paper.

At the time of applying MIT asks about which department the student is interested in. Does MIT have admission quotas for certain departments?

No, they don't. That question is asked only to determine what interests you and to have a better glimpse of your application's context. MIT students typically declare their majors in second semester of freshman year. I know people who even declared their majors in their sophomore year. Actually, this text below is from MIT Admissions Website, verbatim. We're asking about your preferred field of study because we're curious about what interests you right now - not because we have any quotas. You won't declare your major until the end of your freshman year - there's a lot of time between now and then to explore, discover new things, change your mind. For this reason, approximately half of our students ultimately major in something entirely different from what they wrote on their application, so we couldn't use this data to predict anything even if we wanted to. Moral of the story: neither writing "theoretical nuclear intergalactic business physics" nor "underwater basket weaving" will give you an edge in the admissions process, so just be honest!
